Wk of Apr 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

OMG! I am sitting here with the BIGGEST grin on my face!
Mike -- I am not sure what is funnier -- the thought of 7 Minnie girls straggling back to OKW in the middle of the night after having our WISH friends wire bail money? Or that silly robin flying into the window continuously! I am glad you are man enough to admit that the lack of sense of direction almost certainly means that is Mr. Robin. :lmao:

Vic -- I took a picture of something I saw in New Jersey last Friday night that made me think of you and I am hoping to post it later today. The BOLO warning to the Orange County Sheriff's Office is much appreciated! ;)

Geez, how am I ever going to make the requisite good behavior certification to the state Supreme Court to renew my Bar registration next year if I get thrown in the slammer because of my wild Minnie friends? :lmao:

To all my dear WISH friends doing the Flying Pig -- "Fly, Piggies, Fly! On to VICTORY!!!!" (My Philly friend, Terri, may get that reference!)

BTW, there is still a chance my friend may talk Howard into doing the Broad Street Run (in Philly) on Sunday morning, so we may all be racing together in spirit, even if not in person.

I finally put a big tape "X" on the glass so the idiot could see something other than the reflection of trees and what does he do? Hits the glass next to the X. It did seem to slow him down a bit.

If nothing else, I guess I'm ready for a hurricane with the window taped up.

Mike - Having known from experience, if you leave the tape up for more than 4 days with the sun, it becomes a permanent addition to the window. :lmao: At least it isn't a woodpecker banging on aluminum gutters early in the morning. I found out that they don't particularly liked to be goosed with a yardstick while making noise. :rotfl:

Bill--Stephen and I have already planned on getting a bigger vehicle when we have kids. I just don't think a Saturn Ion will be big enough! Plus if we have Hines and the baby both in the backseat, I know my baby will be covered in slobber and hair. Not that that won't happen anyway!

Krista - It is useless to keep the slobber and hair off the baby. We gave up early on and are much more relaxed from it. ;) If you want some practice with babies, I am sure that some time can be arranged down here...:rolleyes1 You might have to hide this from Steve though or if you want him to get practice he is welcome as well.

Lily - Happy Anniversary even if it is a bit late.

Good luck to all who are doing the Pig this weekend. I am sure everyone will do great.

Sorry to all those I missed but it sounds like training is going great for eveyone with all the races coming up. I guess we are going to have to go get some ice cream tonight, as if there wasn't enough stuff to do already.

Bill

I went on a morning walk w/ my virtual training buddy (I really feel like I should give him a name....like Esteban or maybe Donald :lmao: )

The first mile was tough, I think because I'm not used to going in the morning and I hadn't had anything to eat. Donald was kicking my butt! By the end of the first mile, I was warmed up and in the zone, and finished a 5K in 47:46 (about the same time from monday, 15:22 mpm).

I feel like this is a great pace for me, and it's the pace I'll aim for while trianing for the 1/2. As far as I'm concerned, slow and steady finishes the race and frankly, that's all I care about. Of course I may get fast over time, but if I don't, I still won't get swept.

Have a great day and to everyone competing this weekend--

:yay: Good Luck!!:yay:

bekkiz - Great philosophy!! BTW, I relly like Esteban, but DOnald probably is more fitting.:rotfl:

Cindy - I love the pics!!

Lily - Happy Belated Anniversary!!

Carrie - Here's to hoping that the semi custom orthotics do the trick.

Eeyore - I completely agree with Carrie. Definately don't look at the big picture. It's too intimidating. When I first started training for the full last year I was constantly telling myself that if I had such a hard time with my 6 miler how was I ever gonna get through a 20 miler. However, as you slowly increase those distances and time it becomes much easier.

Mike - That poor little bird!!

Well yesterday was a XT day, so I did some free weights for arms, lots of squats and lunges for my legs, then tons of ab work. Along with 30 minutes of cardio. Today my legs hurt so freakin bad I couldn't squat to get on the toilet!! So, this morning I knew I better run or else I'd be walking funny all week. However, I had to drive 45 minutes into town to take the DVD player in my car to get worked on, and didn't get home this morning until 11:30. So... even though it is hot as hades, and the smoke from the fires in Georgia is filling our little town. I forced myself out there to run. I feel so much better now that my legs are loosened up. I only ran 2 miles, and since I am using the Couch to 5k to build my base back up I ran 5 min walk 3min, and did that 3 times. For a total of 21 minutes. I can definately say I'll be running in the morning now though if I can help it.

Dana

bekkiz.....tell me more about Estaban.....I could use a little training buddy of my own! Is it one of those super expensive Garmin things? They're a little out of my price range right now. I nearly had a coronary last weekend when I forked over $20 for 3 pair of Belega socks, but I was told they are the best.

I totally missed posting yesterday! Sorry everyone, I know how you hang on my every word and are seriously bummed when I go AWOL! :rotfl:

Jeanneg: congrats on your first race! :thumbsup2

Dana: I'm there with you regarding the XT. I haven't seen my trainer the last 2 weeks and tomorrow is the first time back with her. I have to remind her not to kill me or run me b/c of the Minnie on sunday. I usually cannot even hold the hairdryer after our sessions!!

Vic: are you the interviewer or the interviewee?

Dave: it's a good thing I don't know where the nearest BR is. I'd be there all the time. I worked at one when I was in high school and oddly enough, I didn't eat all the time. My favorite flavor is one they haven't had since I worked there: Pistachio Almond Fudge. Oh, I'm drooling just thinking about it!! Good luck on the Pig!!

Monica: :cool1: on the weight loss!! That's awesome!

Lily: happy, happy 30th!!

Mike: :lmao: I have such a vision of the thing avoiding the big X

I'm sure I've missed a lot of folks but it was unintentional. I had my last run last night b/4 the Minnie. 50 minutes at 10:30 per mile. My legs were quite heavy from Sunday's effort. Off day today and with my trainer tomorrow. Friday it's off to WDW!!! Oh, what an excellent weekend we'll have. I cannot WAIT to meet so many of you down there.

To those who cannot be with us physically, I know you'll be with us in spirit. I'll be wearing my WISH shirt during the race and I'll envision all of you there cheering me on in those spots where there are no fans. Between that and my running partner, dear Carrie, we should be able to reach our goal!

Have a great day everyone!

Judy, honey...we are friends! That's why I am treating you to a Long Island iced tea on Sunday evening! :lmao:

I'm the interviewer. I've lost three dispatchers over the past two weeks for training deficiencies and better job offers. :sad2:

It's a never ending cycle.

Vic - Does your counterpart the Orange County Sheriff's Office have their own handcuffs?

Yep, and a whip too. ;) :woohoo: :rotfl:

Hi Martha, I worked at BR in high school too! In fact, I learned how to decorate cakes there. Although my clown cones were banned from the store because they were too scary. :clown: [Pennywise!] I still enjoy decorate cakes for family birthdays. I too remember pistachio almond fudge, and it was one of my favorites as well. Yummy!

Here's a store to tempt you...

bekkiz--You are doing great with your training. I agree with the slow and steady, that is how Jeanne and I were able to pass all those people at the end of our race.

Good luck to all those going to WDW for the Minnie and to everyone participating at the Flying Pig. Looks like a busy weekend for many of our WISH team.

After resting on Monday went to the gym yesterday to do Strength class and 20 minutes on the Elipical. My arms and legs are sore from class, it has been ages since I went to one. Need to try to get there at least once a week. Will try 4 miles walking tonight.

Nancy

I've been gone a couple days and just got back on this thread. Catching up w/ everyone is going to be impossible!

I did want to wish all the Flying Pigs and Minnie runners a great race!:yay:

Cindy- I love your track team picture.

I've had a couple days of nice runs. Monday and Tuesday I did 4 miles each day at just under 40 min. Tuesday I did it on the TM at the Y and almost got myself killed when the TM I was using shut down twice. The first time I thought I must have hit the stop button but the second time I knew it was the machine. I took it as a sign that I didn't need to do the 5 miler I had planned and got off at 4!

I need to go to Baskin Robbins tonight and pay for a scoop for once. My Freshman year in college a small group of us deadbeats would occassionally go on Sunday evening after dinner and get test spoons of different flavors. We would each get 3-4 samples. Then we would say we couldn't decide or were full and leave.:sad2: My favorite is a seasonal one which comes out in February- Love Potion 31!

Also, how do I get a WISH team shirt? I'm going to get a hat and visor but I want a shirt, too!

Good luck to all those about to do the Flying Pig and the Minnie! :wizard:

(Wow, do that many live near Cincinnati or are you just going for that event?)

This is supposed to be an easy recovery week for me so I have nothing exciting to share. Looks like next week I start pumping it up some.

Did go to doctor today about my BP. It was high for me - 140 over 84. Given I was on steroids for the poison ivy I got into last month I'm gonna now just check my BP for a few more weeks and record everything. Could be I still have some of the steroids in my system??? Anyway, they didn't think it was high enough to cause my headaches.

bekkiz--I'm with Carrie--definitely like Esteban better!;)

Dave--ooh tempting BR is just not nice--good thing the closest one to us is around 20 min. away--so we won't be heading back out tonight!

Martha--good luck with your trainer--make sure she knows you need to be able to walk this weekend!

Krista--I, like Bill, have long since given up on trying to keep the dog slobber off the kiddos. They haven't come down with any significant illness b/c of it;) And the dog hair?? That's just an effort of futility!

Judy--Have safe travels! See you Saturday!

Lily--I feel bad I forgot to wish you Happy Anniversary!! :cool1:

Well, I did myeasy 3 miles today and it felt good. I played around with my ipod playlist this am--and the first 30 min. of music are really great. I added "Sin Wagon" by the Dixie Chicks this am--really great to run to. And then listening to "These are the Days" by 10,000 Maniacs made me think of all my WISH buddies out there--whether running our first miles or a 10th marathon; each day we are out there doing something counts! :goodvibes Okay, enough sap from me!

Went to Target after my workout, and much to my delight found that they are now selling running skirts! So, being that I"m in my taper madness, I justified needing one. Goes with my WISH shirt so well--looked for zebra stripes, but no such luck!:rolleyes1 Okay, gotta go fold some laundry and see if I can fit all my liquids in my quart zipper bag!

Good Luck Runners Minnie and Pig Racers..

I really am beginning to believe in myself - I did a very slow paced run today, and I feel good!! I think I may have mis calculated the miles because I didnt walk at all - just did the slow wog thing - still came in at 30 min - I know its only 2 miles, and I'm antsy to up the distance after today, but because of the advice here I'll wait until Sunday and only increase by 10% but maybe add a burst of speed here and there - :goodvibes

I worked at Baskin Robbins too - I also learned cake decorating skills!! (and to buy whipped cream icing cakes that shortening gives me the shudders!) Altho I'm a classic Pralines and Creme (no other ice creme pralines are as good!) or the Daiquiri sherbet!! (I guess I"m a lime girl!!)

Question Like disnut - is there a place to order a shirt? Or is it to late?

TIA

It is too late this time around but there will most likely be another order round during the summer/fall for the marathon weekend. Just keep an eye out and it will be posted several places around here.

Bill

Do you think there will be a order placed in time for us to get before the ToT?

If not, I have a couple of extra ones by now and have enjoyed loaning them to other WISHers for events. As we get closer, if an order hasn't been compiled, be sure to PM me so we can figure out if what I have would help you out. :thumbsup2
