Wk of Apr 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

I was thinking about Kevin too. I wanted to send a shout out to him to come join us at the Flying Pig if he has time on May 6th. It's only a short hop down the highway from Michigan to Cincinnati, and it would be great to have another WISHer on the team.

Just a quick post this morning:

Cam, Dave, and Krista - Love your Mickey photos! What a great idea!

Carrie - Sorry about the stonker.

Krista - Glad to hear your sister's BP is down! :wizard: for smooth sailing today.

Judy - Ugh, no fun! Hope that it at least provides some answers for you. :wizard:

So, training. :rolleyes1

Yeah. All day they were predicting severe thunderstorms, so we decided to eat dinner when we got home and plan to do the TM later (after having some time to digest, of course!). We got all ready to go, and then I had the brilliant idea to drop by Mom's house on the way to the gym to drop off some photos.

Bad idea. We didn't leave her house until about midnight. :headache: She's the ultimate night owl.

And, as it turned out, we could have run right after getting home from work, because the storms held off until late night anyway.

Are the bikers the officials who basically signify the end of the race?

Also, what exactly does a sweeper look like? I have this vision of something that looks like the vehicle from Roger Rabbit!

I believe the bikers are bike paramedics.

When you get close to sweeper time--they have the magical bus that appears. I think at one point they just have it stalking the athletes and ready to pounce.

Last year, we watched the last full marathoner coming in. She was "racewalking" and there was a cast member with a clock on wheels pushing it as you would an upright vacuum cleaner. Now at what point he appeared, I don't know--but the last "runner" essentially at a small entourage accompanying her.

Christa--I so understand what you are saying. That's why I'm religiously attending the "Women Can Run" clinic here. I have about 2 1/2 weeks until the "graduation" 5K and it is making me more nervous than the Minnie. I'm really good at long and steady--but getting it into my brain that the race is only 3.1 miles long and I can go faster; just doesn't compute. I'm working with the advanced runner leaders at the clinic to improve my time. They have this crazy idea that I can run the 5K in 23:00. So, I'm working with a pace and effort chart to get to that speed. I will say, though, that what's really helped me is speedwork. I might feel like crud afterward, but at least now I know what it feels like to run fast. Here I go rambling again......

GIRL! That would bring you in under an 8 MPM! The fastest 5k I have ever done was 25...but that was at the beginning of my last 1/2 marathon. I agree that speed work is the key. I am so used to thinking....I have 10 more miles to go, or I have 16 more miles to go...so it is hard to start out FAST and stay FAST!
I think my friends competitive spirit may push me a little.
Do you taper for a 5k? I think I will just let up a bit for that week. Honestly, I have really never run one for speed and it has been a LONG time. My body may go into shock!:scared1:

Ouch! I wore one of those before and found out I was allergic to the adhesive the electrodes were stuck to me with. Looked like I had been attacked by a rabid octopus! Hope you find out something to help soon!

That is SUCH an accurate description!

I just took it off. I think that nurse should be cited for Excessive Use of Medical Tape. :scared1:

No comments here. Earlier today DW kindly reminded me that this is "a family board" and told me that she would probably put a block on my posts if she wasn't married to me. Harsh!!

O.K. then,

Hello to all my on-line friends. I had a rest day today. I hope to run tomorrow. With any luck, I will be pleased with my progress.

Is that family appropriate enough for you?!?

Assuming there's anyone that has yet to put the block on me.

ETA: sorry it's so huge! I can't get it to size down!

:)

Cam - My post did not do your suffering justice. I was afaraid I'd screw up the details, so I went for the short version. LOVE that pic! The thought of 3 WISHers coming to your aid tells reminds me what a wonderful group we have. :goodvibes EVen if Pat did try to pour sports drink on your wounds. :p There would have been no "try" if I was there. You would have been stickey, I'm sure.

Ok, I think I have a little 'splainin' to do, just so everyone doesn't think I was trying to douse Cam in gatorade.....I had two bottles with me, one with water and one with clear powerade. I almost poured the clear powerade on Cam's hands before I realized my mistake and switched to water. I'll tell you though, Cam is one determined lady and sticky gatorade on top of her injuries wouldn't have mattered one bit:love:

Vic - OMG! :rotfl: OMG! :lmao: I can't even respond right now! :rotfl2:

Pat - Forgive me! It's just that the harder I try, the worse things turn out. I know I would have gotten the wrong bottle adn Cam would have been sticky if I were there. :p You're right, though, wouldn't have stopped Cam!

Just checking in. Today is a rest day for me and I'm so glad cause my head is still killing me. I dropped the coffee and Splenda, had a friend that is a chiropractor adjust me, went and had a massage done on just my neck and upper back for thirty minutes and I still have a headache! :headache:

Come Monday if it is still bothering me I guess I'll have to go in to the doctor. Maybe it takes this long to get off the Splenda? Really, I was down to one cup of coffee in the morning and the rest of the day is all water so I don't think it is the caffenine...

Anyway, I'm really hoping it feels better by tomorrow and the rain holds off until late morning so I can get my long run in. (Well, long to me! :rotfl: )

I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts. Definitely aspiring to see what all you guys are doing! Makes the 10K seem less daunting to me. I have set goals in my mind now - if the 10K goes well for RFTT, maybe I'll do the next Minnie 15K that May and then move on and go for the half in 2009. I know DH won't argue with that one, he wanted to do it next January, but our schedules didn't work.

Have a good day everyone! :goodvibes

Good afternoon everyone!

Thanks for all of the well wishes about the foot. It’s feeling better and hopefully I’ll be able to run this weekend.

Sunny – Great job with the SWOG. How are you feeling?

Cam – Great pics. Hope you’re feeling better.

Mel – Hope the feet are feeling better. About the only thing I’m really scared of is the DW when she uses my first and middle names together. Normally the boys and I run the other way. :rolleyes1

Angie – Good job with the run, and sorry to hear about your back.

Matt – Great job with the training.

Dave – Great pic!

Lisa – Good one!

Carrie – Sorry to hear about your run, but pretty cool to have the DH out with you.

Christa – I hate hills.

Disnutt – Great job with the 5 miler!

Krista – Have fun with LR today, and good thoughts continuing for your sis.

Stephanie – Hope your run today is better.

Leana – Great job with the 5 miler!

Judy – I’m telling the nurse.

Mike(Optimator) - I hope you and your DW know I'm just kidding around.

Take care. :)

Hooah!

(BTW my dad invented the Hooah bar. He switched from dissecting dead animals to inventing military food!)

Shan - If your headache isn't any better, definitely go see the doctor. A lady I work with had a headache for 12 straight days and when she went to get it checked out it was her blood pressure.

Also, the rumour for next year is that the Minnie Marathon will be a half marathon instead of a 15K. No confirmation yet though!

:scared1: You really don't want to see him dance - clothed or naked!!

DW of Optimator here - I feel that I need to apoligize to everyone if my comments yesterday have impacted Mike's postings.:guilty: I don't post often because I can never find the time to keep up with everyone. I usually have time to skim through a couple times a week. Hopefully he'll be back to his witty self this evening.:love2: Love ya sweetie!

My training for the Minnie has gotten sidetracked this week - Yesterday I watched a neighbor's kid due to an emergency at their house - no time for the gym! Today I have one sick DD so I was unable to get to the gym. Tomorrow DH has a day off so hopefully I'll get back on track and put in some miles. I have gotten in all my LR days so overall I think I'll be fine. It's hard to believe that I leave for the Minnie race in less than 9 days:yay:

I'm excited about the Minnie but also sad that I'll be missing Mike's first marathon! He waited to sign up for it until I had already signed up for the Minnie and bought my airfare. :headache: I had already committed to the Minnie with a friend so I didn't want to back out. I feel bad that no one will be there to cheer him on during the race or congratulate him at the end.

Happy training to everyone!! I'll make a good dinner for Mike before he goes off to work - hopefully that'll straighten things out!

Kathy

Kathy - Thanks for letting Mike be Mike!!!!!!! ;) :cool1:  :cool1: Sorry about your work outs being side tracked. Sounds like you've been a very good mom and friend. You know not to take any of our whining seriously, right?

Shan - I get headaches fro 2 to 3 days even with just 1 cup of coffee. That said, you may want to get in befoer the weeknd. Headaches worry me. :grouphug: :wizard:

Hey all - I am home with a kind of sick princess. She has asthma and her allergies kicked in overtime, thus making her asthma a nightmare. I was up most of the night with her giving her the nebulizer and holder her while she just coughed and wheezed. She is doing better now, 4 treatments later. Still a little rough, but definately not as scary.

Last night I did roughly 40 minutes on the elliptical while DD's did swim class. I was even able to catch the tail end of their classes, so that was nice. Today I am a stay at home mom and it feels... kind of weird. Soon I am off to pick other DD up from school.

Kathy - Oh you just tell Mike that all the WISHers will be here cheering him on.

Vic - Way to kick on booty on Mike. That'll learn him!!!

OK, gotta be a mom today!!!

Kathy - Can you get him on your cell phone when we are all at the Minnie and we will all encourage or congratulate him (depending on when we call guess). He'll have LOTS of supporters! :woohoo:

Don't you worry a bit about him ever offending us. Have you read many of our posts? Farmers blow, man bras, zebra butts...we are a tough crowd. Besides, so many of us logon here to get our daily OptimMikeism...is ain't the same, I tell ya. ;)

Oh, no! Minnie now a half? Maybe Minnie in 2009 then. :rotfl2:

Ya, I wondered about the blood pressure cause a few weeks back I had gotten into poison ivy and had to go on steroids. It made my blood pressure high and that is VERY ODD for me. It is usually very low. But, when I checked it again a few times after that it had gone back down. This headache is in one spot in my head. I feel like I'm insane...
