Wizzarding World of Harry Potter Phase 2 on the way.

OK, I have tried to stay out of this fray, but here goes. First, I haven't been to WWoHP and don't really plan on going. While it would be neat to see, honestly the Universal Parks were a huge disappointment to me (but I remembered enjoying Universal Hollywood in the 90's). Most of the attractions have never updated or really been theme'd like they could have done. Honestly, having attractions based on 70's movies shows a lack of originality in their design concept. As far as Islands of Adventure, it was better and had some bigger rides/coaster, but it wasn't a whole day park for me or the young adults we took (half the group went to the movies and the other half went back for a nap). With that being said, I don't see wasting a day at Universal just to ride the re-themed rides...maybe one day some friends will want to go while we are there and I will go, but until then I don't have any plans.

As for the news that WWoHP has been paid for and phase 2 is on the way, I haven't seen anything to support either of these items. First, as pointed out, how do they say it is paid for...is it increased revenue based off attendance figures of years past, or are they just saying enough people came through the gates (which many would have anyway). Second, Universal would make a huge mistake rolling out a phase 2 so soon. The business approach would allow the simmer of Phase 1 to settle down and about when attendance begins to decrease you roll out phase 2 to bring people back in, that have already visited phase 1.

The fact that they are starting to plan it now doesn't mean it's being rolled out tomorrow. If they're starting now, it will probably be a couple of years before it opens -- depending on how elaborate it is, and presumably at the right-ish time to give them a fresh boost when they need it.

I like how we're all arguing the points of innovation vs. upgrade and Universal vs. Disney. Let's be honest with ourselves, forbidden journey really is an innovative attraction with great detail and show. Many of those who said they didn't find it enjoyable or innovative or anything else from what I notice is that they never had a want to go on it or a high expectation for it. You go on an attraction with a frown and a bad mood, you really won't enjoy it.

Disney has had its chances for innovation and great expectations, but such advances are a gamble, something Disney isn't looking for anymore, they want money, no matter how much of a cheap thrill they'll put out.

I'm happy for Universal to take on this milestone, it kind of shows how they're still there in modern tech and making new rides. Every so many years, Universal dishes out a grand attraction. Disney had its big hits with Soarin, Everest, and Tower of Terror way back when. If any of you remember, Revenge of the Mummy at Universal was breathtaking at its time, at least I thought so. Its a tug of war with tech, show, and innovation. Disney has its wins and takes a break and Universal has its wins and takes a break. Right now, Universal is winning the war, and I'm sure Disney will have some grand things on the way in the future, just consider Toy Story Mania and Laugh Floor attractions to tide you over for a bit.

There is no doubt that there are plans, there are always plans and likely they have been developed and filed away. No one builds phase 1 without plans for the additional phases. The process is to develop what you want in full, then break it down into phases to be completed. I am not debating this at all, I am merely saying that there is NO factual basis for this thread. No one can show that even Universal has made the claim they recouped the 265 million for WWoHP (which isn't much, but will probably still take a little bit longer to make) and that they are moving forward with Phase 2. :surfweb:

This is the rumors board. This is what we do here. It says so right in the title "Disney Rumors and News."

If you want to wait for the press release before you join this discussion you are free to do so.

It is in fact Rumors and News....no where did anyone say this as a rumor and the dicussion has been in the more factual reference. The rumors board is to discuss rumors and their feasibility.....these rumors are not feasible nor have any factual backing.

Sorry, don't care to discuss the off topic Universal rocks vs Disney sucks discussion though......

We're actually free to discuss rumors in any way we want -- we're not limited to feasibility or anything else you decide is criteria for discussion. Also, by definition, once a rumor has "factual backing," it's no longer rumor.

But really, going to a rumor board and complaining that the discussion is only rumor is like going to the beach and complaining about sand.

And when did I complain about how people were discussing it, I just wanted to point out the feasibility aspect of the situation and the fact that it is merely rumor with no backing whatsoever.

But really, complaining about me disputing a rumor on the rumor board is like going to splash mountain and complaining about getting wet :laundy:

And when did I complain about how people were discussing it

How about here?

In any case, simply calling something "not feasible" doesn't make it so.

I don't know if they recouped their money or not, and while it seems fast I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Certainly, OP has posted plenty of rumors that have turned out to be true so anything he says has a certain amount of cred in my book.

Please. You cannot tell me for a second that if Disney had thr rights to recreate the Harry Potter setting, that it would have been totally better. And disney is one of the most innovative places in the world, they don't always go the cheap route.

they don't always go the cheap route.

No, they don't. Walt didn't at Disneyland during his time, nor was Epcot in 1982. There are other examples, of course, but in the last 15-20 years Disney has more and more consistently taken the cheap, lazy, unimaginative route in regards to Walt Disney World development.

I'm not sure if you mean literally what you wrote or the exact opposite of it.

Tokyo DisneySea wasn't done on the cheap either (quite the opposite), but of course, Disney didn't pay for it

The new section in the short few months that it had been open has already paid for itself. Phase 2 should be on the way soon.

What I hear to include a show and one or 2 d tickets.

Disney screwed up royally on this one... its especially interesting given they had/have the TV rights to the movies and HP wasn't a universal property so putting at... say... DHS... would have been great.

I picture Disney doing something more of the equivilent of the Journey Into Narnia if they had the rights to Potter.... I would hope I would be wrong, but they haven't been bringing their A game IMHO as of late...I hope THe Little Mermaid proves me wrong...

I think they may have exceeded that (Narnia) but in no way would they have afforded HP the presence Universal has. We're all the better off for Universal having won this battle.
