WISHES IS GONE (leaving in May)

I am beyond sad about this!! It's bad enough they took Spectro away (yes, still bitter about that one) but Wishes?! Ugh ugh ugh. That being said, we are supposed to leave may 12th and I will probably extend a night to be able to see this.

I'm excited to see something new, although "Wishes" will always hold a special place in my heart.
On a side note; about ten years ago, we were told Wishes cost Disney over $1 million PER NIGHT. Projections are a lot cheaper than buying tons of fireworks...just sayin'

And Disney is in a cost cutting mode.

I think this is a big cost cutting move. Combine the fireworks and projecting show into 1, and need a lot less daily fireworks.

They made the new hub for expanded wishes viewing area, but I think all that new territory is really to far for projection shows. The hub redesign was around a fireworks show!

We just made 7pm Obama reservations to watch wishes from beach, along with water pageant. Now have to decide whether to try for an earlier reservation and get back to mk or not

Count me in! I absolutely love Wishes and am sorry to see it go. But, I'm certainly going to give the new show a chance and have some faith that WDW will build on a good thing they had going with Wishes.

Time will tell, but from this vantage point today, I'm excited!

I didn't hear about this new addition! Maybe something in place due to the Hall of Presidents closing??

Lol:rotfl:

I wish I could see Wishes one last time :( It will be missed!! But it's been around for a while, and Disney is capable of (let's be real) much better fireworks displays. All the movies that they specifically mentioned will be included sound great!

I hope they still include a moment with Genie from Aladdin, it's so special in Wishes and would be a shame if they did away with it completely.

In the comments of the Disney Parks Blog post, they said Happily Ever After is not replacing Once Upon a Time. It will be to it what Wishes was to Celebrate the Magic.

This news makes me so so sad. Wishes is my favorite thing about WDW. I am not a fan of projection shows and don't feel they work well for the audience, even when properly executed.

Nope, it was over a million in 2006, fact :-)
Water (to douse any potential flames), electric, and of course, the fireworks themselves.

The around 50k I'm just referring to the cost of fireworks for the show. Idk back in 2006 how much it was different from now, I just find it hard to believe that each show would cost them around a Million. Even with 50k in fireworks, I cant see water and electric accounting for that much more of a cost increase. Even throwing in paying for each pyrotechnic CM I can't see it being that much.

I've also seen people say they heard it cost Disney $6 Million per every Wishes show.

I really can't see any company putting on a show nightly that cost them a million. That's $365 Million dollars per year, not including multiple Wishes on some nights and not including other parks fireworks shows

Very excited about this. We are "What's new?" people - always looking to mix it up and have new experiences, so are looking forward to it.

I definitely have mixed feelings about this one. I absolutely love Wishes! I love the music and think it is do Disney. Plus it was the show that was playing both times I did my CP so I have fond memories from that as well. I am very happy that I was able to see both Wishes, the Christmas Fireworks, and Illuminations (since there are rumors that is changing) one last time in November. I do think that it is time for a change and I am excited to see what the new show looks like. I probably won't make it back to Disney until the 50th and I am so excited already to experience all the new stuff!

Feeling a little sad but excited at the same time. FInally new things to look forward too... ROL, Pandora, this....

So glad I will be there 3x before May (thank you work conference!!!, Princess 10K and DCL Cruise) so I can have multliple times to see it.

In March while at my conference I got the dessert party so that will be a great way to see one of the final shows.

I'm sad to see Wishes go and given current trends of cost cutting I'm not optimistic that the new show will be better - I'm also betting Tinkerbell won't fly anymore either.

That said - I'm curious if they'll do a christmas and halloween version. They can still run the Wishes versions of them but it seems odd to switch back to an "older" show. (Symphony in the Stars notwithstanding)
