WISHES IS GONE (leaving in May)

This isn't going to just be a projection show.

This is going to be a projection show and a firework show just like Wishes, or even better. If you watch the Disney video they say the fireworks will "Light up the sky like never before". So I find it hard to believe they would cut down on the fireworks.

Wishes is great and is a classic Disney firework/projection show, but it is time for a refresher. I can't wait to see this new show when it debuts. I'm sure they'll incorporate all the Disney magic and nostalgia everyone loved with Wishes, but make it that much better. Bigger and brighter fireworks, crisper projections, better music.

I don't see this being cost cutting at all. Not everything that Disney does is related to some cost cutting measure. Now if the new show were only done once or twice a week or didn't feature any fireworks, then it could start falling to a cost cutting measure. But revamping a show doesn't

I wonder if the timing is intended to relieve some of the crowding issues AK will be facing. Rivers of Light opening next week may increased AK attendance, and Pandora definitely will in May. A new fireworks show in MK will give guests another new nighttime offering around the same time period.

I am so thankful we made time for Wishes on our last trip. It gets me every time! Wishes never felt old to me, but we've only seen it 4 times. I am worried that they are cutting corners wherever they can and that the new show won't hold a candle to Wishes. Nothing to do but wait and see!

The around 50k I'm just referring to the cost of fireworks for the show. Idk back in 2006 how much it was different from now, I just find it hard to believe that each show would cost them around a Million. Even with 50k in fireworks, I cant see water and electric accounting for that much more of a cost increase. Even throwing in paying for each pyrotechnic CM I can't see it being that much.

I've also seen people say they heard it cost Disney $6 Million per every Wishes show.

I really can't see any company putting on a show nightly that cost them a million. That's $365 Million dollars per year, not including multiple Wishes on some nights and not including other parks fireworks shows
It's not something I heard, it's something I know as fact...I worked at DRC, & I worked in corp finance as well.
Yes, it's very expensive and I'd imagine that this change has plenty to do with cost cutting. With that said, it doesn't mean the new show won't be fantastic! :-)

Really? So many didn't like the change. We are in the minority I guess. I saw Celebrate a few times but it was never something I felt compelled to watch. Caught the new show last trip and loved it. We won't be missing it. Why do folks not like it as well? The tech is so much better. What am I missing?

My opinion, but OUAT is forgettable. There's no moment or song or message that I can hold onto once it's over. CTM had the moments with Walt, the song, the call to action with the title. It didn't have a 1->2->3 procession with what stories it portrayed, but when the show was over I felt something

OUAT is tied to BATB, but also not a BATB show which is a little confusing. I can't tell you anything about the theme song (if there even is one), and what does the title even mean, how does it advance the story?

I had the same issue with Friendship Faire when it first launched - Dream Along had this amazing story, an original score, and a message that guests could leave with. Friendship Faire doesn't really have those. Now, I love Friendship Faire and have seen it far more times than any person not actually working the show should, but it is lacking.

I'm hoping this new show brings back the storytelling aspect that has been missing from recent productions.

I just hope the new show is fireworks heavy.

I can't imagine it will be. I could see it having more fireworks than the DHS shows, but it will likely have less pyro than Wishes.

Combine the fireworks and projecting show into 1, and need a lot less daily fireworks.

Disney confirmed that "Once Upon a Time" is staying once "Happily Ever After" debuts.

I sincerely hope you are right, but I'm not as optimistic.

It figures... we just saw Wishes for the first time last week and we all fell in love. I even have the cd shipping to me right now from amazon! Oh well. At least we have the memories. And I'll be cautiously optimistic for this new show! Disneyland Forever is incredible and can be just as nice watching from your hotel room window or behind the Matterhorn in tomorrowland. So fingers crossed!

Wishes meant a lot to me. I'm sure this new show will be wonderful, but for personal reasons I'm just going to miss my Wishes :sad1:

I agree. I'm kind of glad now that I changed from 3 nights at MK to 3 nights at Epcot. As long as they don't touch Illuminations!!!

announced today that it will be replaced in May with "happily ever after". I'm so sad!! What does everyone else think?

It is a birthday gift for my husband. :bday: It begins on his day and we will be celebrating there. It is time for a change and now, if they would update my all time favorite, Illuminations, life would be grand--maybe for my birthday in the fall (when we will also be there.)

How exciting!!!

What a year we picked to go. In October we'll have Pandora, RoL, Disney Springs (all new for me) and a new nighttime show at Magic Kingdom.

Nice. :)

This has me completely rethinking my TPV CR plans in late May. The whole point was for Wishes.

This new one better have amazing drones or something because I am pisssssssed.

I will miss Wishes, how could any long time Disney lover not. But for me it was all about Jiminy Cricket. Hearing his voice as a narrator was the most inspiring and touching part of the show for me. To me he is the voice of Walt and is a Disney character that promotes positivity and a feeling of epic warmth  I am ok with Wishes being replaced with something else, I'm not ok with losing Jiminy :(

Well, it really depends on what the new show is like. I love Wishes of course, but the new show could be even better. If it's of the same caliber as Disneyland Forever, we're in for a treat!

Should the new show fail to meet expectations though, well, that would be a real downer.

I agree. DL Forever was a great show, and if they bring the Main Street projection technology to WDW, that would be awesome. I enjoy Wishes well enough, but I'm OK with seeing something new. Hopefully Happily Ever After will meet our expectations!
