WISH Wellness Awesome October Challenge

I'm late but I'd still like to join!

Lisa, thank you for thinking up and implementing a shake-up to our monthly challenges! Your time is very much appreciated!

I even sent out an email to some old-time WISH friends to see if they'd like to join :goodvibes

I think this format is awesome b/c it help me not focus on that stupid number, and more on consistently doing the actions that will take me to my goal!

that said, I probably do not get 5 servings a day, more like 3. I do like V8 and Naked Greenie to help me boost up those servings when I'm low on them for the day. Also, I have a juicer that would really rack up the servings on the days I dust it off

I also have a fitbit and  it! my goal now is 8k steps a day, I have been able to slowly increase my step goal this year which is wonderful! some days it's really hard to me so I know this goal is appropriate for where I'm at now

I totally agree that I think this new format will be a chance to focus on something that can give us more positive feedback than a stupid scale.

And maybe this weeks challenge would be motivation to go and dust off that juicer!! :goodvibes

Evening all! We are at the theater with plenty of time to spare. I ended up grilling some chicken and making grilled chicken wraps with garlic hummus and spinach for DH and I. Peeled and sliced carrots for a side. Not fancy but it fit the bill. We sat in Five Guys and ate with DS. I admit I ate 5 fries, but that's all !

Off to find our seats I'm a few minutes... And if you want a god laugh and want to see the comedian I am seeing tonight, google "Brian Regan cup of dirt". It's our favorite of his routines! TTY tomorrow!.............P

Grilled chicken wraps with spinach and hummus sounds delicious! Sounds like you made a great choice there. Hope you enjoyed the show!

Ok - I really need to brag a little. I am sooooo absolutely excited about my time! I finished my 6k in 35:02 minutes! That means I was faster than 10 km/h or faster than a 10 minute per mile pace. I absolutely can't believe it! And the funny thing is that during the race I did not feel as if I was fast at all. I was more thinking that I was really slow and not in great form. But now I know why I was feeling a bit exhausted! I still managed to to get over the finish line without collapsing - I even was able to speed up for the last 400 meters or so!

Here is a picture of me after the finish line. In true German fashion you get a beer and pretzel bread after your run! :lmao:

IMG_1156.jpg

It is alcohol free wheat beer which is marketed here as kind of an isotonic sports drink. And it is really great after a run! I also had an apple as well - so one serving of fruit down!

Well, I didn't hit my goal for yesterday. Unless the bag of chip counts a vegetable. I mean it technically started as a potato. :)

Today has been better. I may have actually gotten 5 servings in the giant salad I had for lunch.

Great job with the salad!!

I think I am in a similar position as you. Most of the time I do get my 5 servings. But then if I don't pay attention, I end up with more days not getting there than I should. That's what I love about this challenge. It really motivates me to go out and make an effort and possibly find new things to improve my habits!

I'm pretty good about getting all my servings in as long as the fridge is well stocked! But since we live 40 minutes away from the grocery, that definitely takes some planning ahead! But I keep "emergency" frozen veggies and fruit on hand.... just in case!

I have the fitbit one. I love it that I can wear it on my bra and no one notices that I am wearing the device. I also like the sleep tracking and floor tracking and would not want to miss one of those.

If you ever get around to do the comparison, I would be really interested in hearing about the results. I always fear that my fitbit is being too generous. But then I walk around and count my steps and it is actually pretty accurate.

I'd love to hear a comparison as well.... especially since my WW members often ask me what the difference is between the Fitbit and other activity monitors you can buy elsewhere and the WW Activelink. Wish I had a "smarter" answer!

Hope you find a good dinner compromise!!

We did!

And I will not be any kale for National Kale Day! I dislike nearly all vegetables of the cabbage family. And unfortunately I dislike most green vegetables (spinach and broccoli being an exemption - and peas, if the count as green, but I rarely eat them as they have points in WW).

Honestly, in a smoothie you probably wouldn't even know it was there (other than the color). ESPECIALLY if you used other strongly flavored fruits like berries and bananas. ( :ssst: Let me tell you a secret.... I've been putting assorted combinations of kale, baby spinach, and/or avocado in DS's chocolate peanut butter banana smoothies every day for about a year now.... and he hasn't noticed yet!!!! The chocolate masks the green color pretty well. Mint would also mask the color well. )

Good for you to have a nice salad for lunch! I find salads such an easy option to get lots of servings in one go!

:thumbsup2
---

I am at 2/7 now. Decided to bring some carrots as office snack today and had a salad for lunch (even though the pizza at the work cafeteria was really calling my name) and pasta with a lot of tomato sauce for dinner.

Good for you for resisting the siren's call of pizza!:rotfl:

Tomorrow is my 6k and I am slightly nervous. It is a morning race at 10 am and I am not sure how I will do as I usually don't run that well in the mornings, but by 10am my body should have woken up. Now I am afraid that I might get hungry. So I think I will treat myself to a nice bowl of porridge for breakfast tomorrow and hope that this will be enough!

At least I don't have to worry about having to have a crazy early start on a day that is a day off from work. I thought it was going to start at 8:30am!

Woohoo for setting the alarm a little later!

I'm late but I'd still like to join!

I was CONVINCED that this never posted last night! My phone just kept saying "sending".... glad it showed up!

I totally agree that I think this new format will be a chance to focus on something that can give us more positive feedback than a stupid scale.

That being said, the "stupid scale" was GREAT for me today! Figures..:rolleyes2

Grilled chicken wraps with spinach and hummus sounds delicious! Sounds like you made a great choice there. Hope you enjoyed the show!

They were very tasty and I felt pretty self-righteous sitting in FIVE GUYS eating it!:rotfl:

BEER??? I could definitely get into a run where I got BEER at the end! Time to dust off those running shoes!!:lmao:

Great picture! Thanks for sharing! GREAT to put a face with the name finally!! And you did GREAT with the times!! That is impressive!!

*******************

Morning all! Well, I have to join the group of you who were saying that now that we are NOT reporting our weights, the scale is finally moving down! If today's number is to be believed I lost as much this week as I did the entire month of September!! :cool1: (Which admittedly wasn't a big number, but still!) And the only thing that has really changed??? Watching that evening eating! :thumbsup2

Lots to get done around the house today before I head off late this afternoon to drive to DD's for a quick overnight trip.

Last night's show was really good. I laughed a lot.... even the warm-up comedian was good! And it is so refreshing to hear a really funny guy that doesn't resort to vulgar language and such! While his humor is "adult" in some ways (relationships, driving, kids), it is definitely a FAMILY show. His BEST bit last night was about the queues at WDW and being line-jumped... and of course my MEN knew that would be my favorite part! :lmao:

Today's 5 servings is starting slow.... the last of the leftover veggie egg pie... probably could count it as one serving, since it was really loaded with broccoli, spinach, mushroom, and onions. But there isn't enough fruit in my homemade low sugar oatmeal banana muffin to count it. And after eating a lot of carrot sticks with dinner last night, I'm not in the mood. I may grab an apple for mid-morning snack. That would bring me to at least two servings before lunch.

Time to relax a bit and enjoy the last of my coffee before the tasks of the day call any louder!.......................P

Congratulations on your great race, Magdalene! :yay: :woohoo: :yay: And you look fabulous! :cool2:

A beer and pretzel at the finish would be awesome and those are really nice race shirts. I might have to put a German race on my bucket list someday!

This week has been busier than I thought it would be, and I haven’t had time to check in for a few days. That means I get to post a huge mega reply post!
So today was a rough start....actually forgot about the challenge completely :confused3 Lunch would have been great! Met my hubby and ordered a Malibu salad [romaine lettuce with dried cranberries, apples and grilled chicken ]...if course the starbuck frappe and 3 krispie cream donuts I had before I left the office destroyed the salad......tomorrow is a new day!

At least you got some veggies before the donuts … but you’re right, tomorrow is a new day and a new chance to start over

Lisa!!!! It is great to be back. Still struggling with the wrist. I only regained about 40% of my motion so things like push-up/planks are extremely difficult as my wrist just does not bend to 90 degrees any longer:worried: my grip is incomplete and writting is difficult....nothing more they can do however. I have had all the hardware taken out in the hopes that I would regain more funtion but really didn't get me anywhere....Adapting day by day. I really get frustrated in the gym during a class when I can't do the moves because of the lack of motion.

I can’t even imagine how frustrating that must be … but the important thing is to stay healthy and not make your wrist any worse – hopefully the rest of the range of motion will come back eventually

I am an emotional/stress eater so you can imagine how my life has been over the past year with the wrist stuggles and I am paying for it. Time to take on a new perspective however!! I am getting back to the gym after being gone for about 4 mths and working with the instructors to figure out how to modify the moves to stay in the class...have walked 3 5K's in the past 4 weeks..placed in 2 of them [well 1 was unofficaly as I took off my number when changes shirts and didn't put it back on...duh!]

Congrats on the 2 places! I’m also a stress eater, so I completely understand where you’re coming from

I LOVE smoothies so am really going to work in some protein and fruit shakes. We tried a green smoothy the other night...if the kale and spinach would blend smoother and not be so gritty it would have been really good! Just couldn't handle the gritty texture after about 4 drinks....

I have the same problem, but I think mine is because I use a food processor and not a blender. If you’re willing to shell out some money for a really good blender, that makes for a much better texture.

Seen some comment on the fitbit....I LOVE MINE...is a real eye opener to see just how sedentary some days are.

Well here is to us all and getting back in the groove!
Same here with the fitbit … before I got it, I never realized that there were actually days when I got less than 2,000 steps! It really has shown me a lot about how much/how little I move around!

My Activelink can be quite an eye opener....when I remember to use it!! :rolleyes1
That was my biggest fear when I got my fitbit … that I would forget to wear it. I’ve been pretty good about it, only forgotten it a few times. It definitely takes getting used to.
I have the Fitbit Flex and Love it. A couple of the girls in the office had the body media band. I have wanted to wear them both to see if one tracked better than the other but have never done it.

I can’t remember any particulars, but I know I’ve seen a few articles online of people who have worn multiple activity trackers at once and compared them … the bottom line is that the numbers are rarely the same, and sometimes not even close.

Well today has been an ok start. I swung through Starbucks and got my frappe and tried the greek yogurt with berries.....kind of bitter for my taste so didn't eat it all but it was a start...

I have my left over salad from yesterday so that will be lunch.
Salad for lunch is good! I didn’t like greek yogurt at first, but it grew on me and now I love it … but I do know people who hate it. It’s not for everyone.

So how's every one doing today? I have actually been pretty productive here. And guess what... TODAY IS NATIONAL KALE DAY! Can anyone get excited about kale??:lmao: I actually made myself a very bright green kale smoothie for lunch, in honor of national kale day.... almond milk, kale, a bit of spinach to keep the kale company, a tiny bit of frozen mango, carrot pulp (I keep it in the freezer from when I juice), banana, 1/8 avocado, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla. It went down fast though! Hope I'm not hungry in 30 minutes, because that used all of my lunch Points!
To me National Kale Day is less exciting than one of this week’s earlier days … National Coffee Day.
I’ve never actually tried kale. If someone served it to me, I might eat it, but I’m not going out of my way to try it.

Well, I didn't hit my goal for yesterday. Unless the bag of chip counts a vegetable. I mean it technically started as a potato. :)

Today has been better. I may have actually gotten 5 servings in the giant salad I had for lunch.
Sometimes I wish potato chips counted as a vegetable – I used to eat them all the time!
At least today is better!

I think I am in a similar position as you. Most of the time I do get my 5 servings. But then if I don't pay attention, I end up with more days not getting there than I should. That's what I love about this challenge. It really motivates me to go out and make an effort and possibly find new things to improve my habits!

Exactly! Challenges like this really get you to make an effort into being healthy and keep you accountable.

I also have the One – I love it! I usually wear it on my skirt pocket, unless I’m wearing something without pockets, in which case I wear it on my bra (although occasionally I’ll just wear it on the waistband of my skirt/pants). I find that sometimes when I count my steps it’s accurate, but not always. It’s still easier than counting my steps all the time.

Hope you find a good dinner compromise!!

And I will not be any kale for National Kale Day! I dislike nearly all vegetables of the cabbage family. And unfortunately I dislike most green vegetables (spinach and broccoli being an exemption - and peas, if the count as green, but I rarely eat them as they have points in WW).

I know a lot of people who don’t like green vegetables – seems to be a pretty common thing … I wonder why. My sister had a friend in college who was a vegetarian or vegan (I don’t remember which one) and didn’t like green vegetables and a few other vegetables … I always wondered what she ate.

Good for you to have a nice salad for lunch! I find salads such an easy option to get lots of servings in one go!

---

I am at 2/7 now. Decided to bring some carrots as office snack today and had a salad for lunch (even though the pizza at the work cafeteria was really calling my name) and pasta with a lot of tomato sauce for dinner.

According to the US government, the sauce in pizza is a vegetable, so maybe that could have counted (even though you don’t live in the US, I think you still could count it). Although a salad is better … so kudos to you for making the right choice.

Tomorrow is my 6k and I am slightly nervous. It is a morning race at 10 am and I am not sure how I will do as I usually don't run that well in the mornings, but by 10am my body should have woken up. At least I don't have to worry about having to have a crazy early start on a day that is a day off from work. I thought it was going to start at 8:30am!
So nice to not have to get up early! 10 am is a good starting time for a race … much easier than starting at 8:30am.

Exactly! If you focus on the healthy habits, the number will change … but if you focus on the number without being healthier at the same time, nothing happens.

that said, I probably do not get 5 servings a day, more like 3. I do like V8 and Naked Greenie to help me boost up those servings when I'm low on them for the day. Also, I have a juicer that would really rack up the servings on the days I dust it off

8k is a great goal … it’s good that you know what the right goal is for you and you’re working towards it.

Yay! Great time & congrats on doing so well in the race.

I read an article in the New York Times … probably around a year ago … about people who drink beer after running. Apparently it’s just as good as water for recovery, and nonalcoholic beer is even better than alcoholic beer. And the pretzel gets you some of the salt you lost.
Here’s the link to the article if you’re interested: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/11/08/runners-who-love-beer/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0
Personally, I’d say beer and pretzel is better than high-sugar sports drink and some protein bar that I can’t identify half of the ingredients.
Morning all! Well, I have to join the group of you who were saying that now that we are NOT reporting our weights, the scale is finally moving down! Yay!

There were plenty of kiddos there under 18 (including my own DS) and I never once cringed that maybe it was inappropriate (although I knew this already or else DS wouldn't have gone). His BEST bit last night was about the queues at WDW and being line-jumped... and of course my MEN knew that would be my favorite part! :lmao:

Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed the show.

Time to relax a bit and enjoy the last of my coffee before the tasks of the day call any louder!.......................P
I hope you can get those 5 servings in! The leftover veggie egg pie is a good start, and an apple for snack is a good idea.

I’ve gotten my 5 every day so far … even if it involved me having celery last night when I shouldn’t really have been eating because it was late and I’m trying to snack less after dinner.
This morning I chopped & nuked an apple and put it over my waffle … I ended up with more apple than waffle, but I’m okay with that. Not sure how I’m going to get my remaining 4 servings … I know I’ll have a small salad with dinner, but not sure what else – I haven’t really done any meal planning for today.
I know I won’t get my 5 tomorrow – I’m fasting most of the day for Yom Kippur, and it’s hard for me to get in 5 servings after the fasting ends … I’m hoping for at least 3. Sunday I’ll be back to my normal schedule, so I’ll try to get an extra serving to make up for missing out on Saturday.

Friday is house cleaning day around here, so it’s time for me to go scrub the bathtub. Have a great day, all!

BEER??? I could definitely get into a run where I got BEER at the end! Time to dust off those running shoes!!:lmao:

Great picture! Thanks for sharing! GREAT to put a face with the name finally!! And you did GREAT with the times!! That is impressive!!

Yep, beer! See the stand behind me, they are ready to give out many beers!

I thought I had posted a picture of me in the past - this one is not the best of me!!! I am all red in my face and without make up!! :scared1: I do look better if I have not just run a personal record!

Of course for me it is Friday, so the scale went up. So glad that I don't have to report a weight today. But congratulations on your loss!! :thumbsup2 Seems like the evening snacking was not good for you and a more equal distribution of points during the day keeps your metabolism fired up better!

The show sounds great! Kind of reminds me of the shows on DCL. Even the adult shows there (at least the ones I have seen) where never too sleazy, but rather mild.

Congratulations on your great race, Magdalene! :yay: :woohoo: :yay: And you look fabulous! :cool2:

A beer and pretzel at the finish would be awesome and those are really nice race shirts. I might have to put a German race on my bucket list someday!

Thanks!! And the Nuremberg City Run is every October 3 - as it is a holiday, so you just need to plan a trip to Germany around that time! It has a 6k, 10k and half marathon.

The race is sponsored by a chain of sport stores and their corporate colour is orange. You don't get bibs, the race shirt is your bib, you need to wear it to be allowed to start. I guess they want the free advertising of having thousand of orange runners on the pictures in the local press. They sponsor races all over Germany (different weekends). The shirts are really nice, this year it is an Asics shirt, but from years past I also have one from Adidas and another running clothing company. I only own one short sleeved running shirt that I actually bought as I have accumulated quite a few of the orange ones. The race is 28 € to take part in and that includes the shirt. I think that is a pretty good deal.

Good afternoon all! :goodvibes

Sorry I am tardy posting our musing this morning. The Disboards server was busy all morning. :badpc: I will post the question now but it may be tomorrow before I can do the replies.

I've never been at Halloween but I've been in Sept to WDW and my favorite part is the mild temps(near perfect weather). HEHE. I think it would be pretty all decorated.

Lots of folks reporting that taking the focus off the scale has been a winner, Pamela! :thumbsup2 Nice to have such great results on one small change! :cool2: Sounds like the show was great, too. ::yes::

Interesting article, Sarah! :cool2: I would much rather have a pretzel and a beer at the end of a race myself. ;)

And kale doesn't really have much flavor -- I like mine in a salad with other good things that I buy at my deli. It was one of those things I never thought I would like but I do. :confused3

That seems like a great deal, Magdalene! :cool2: I'm surprised the you have to wear your shirt to run the race thing hasn't caught on here. How do time you without a bib?

And we talked so much about a visit to Germany that I dreamt that I was there. LOL. :rotfl:

It can be Disneyland, Disney World or even Disney Paris. :cool2: Never been to Disney for Halloween time? Tell us what you would like to do if you were there!

I love Disneyland at Halloween Time! I've been twice and I love the jack o'lanterns and bunting lining Main Street, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and most of all Haunted Mansion Holiday! :hmghost:

I would really love to see Disneyland Paris at Halloween Time. They seem to have some good scary things going on. :cool2:

I've never been at Halloween but I've been in Sept to WDW and my favorite part is the mild temps(near perfect weather). HEHE. I think it would be pretty all decorated.

Cooler temps are definitely a plus of fall visits! :thumbsup2

I'm at 4/7 for the challenge so far. Glad to see that everyone is doing so well! :yay:

Good afternoon all! :goodvibes

Sorry I am tardy posting our musing this morning. The Disboards server was busy all morning. :badpc: I will post the question now but it may be tomorrow before I can do the replies.

NO WORRIES!

Never been to Disney for Halloween. Never been in the fall. Since we've been married I've only been in January, April, or May. That being said, last year DS and I were in Orlando for Minecon and we did take a monorail ride and I did see the decor at the entrance to the MK. It was fun. Of course, I am not a big fan of Halloween, so I wasn't terribly excited... but like I said, it was fun. I would MUCH prefer to see Christmas decor or better yet, visit during the Flower and Garden Festival and have MUCH MORE TIME to enjoy the extras during that time (been there during that time, but always end up with a COMMANDO style visit).

A picture from last year's visit that did NOT include going into the park..... if you look carefully you can see the Halloween decor in the background.

Happy Sunday all! Had fun in Boston yesterday at the D23 Fanniversary event. That being said, I think Disney is missing out on a HUGE money-making opportunity. There was NOTHING for sale at this event.... no t-shirts, no promotional booklets, no Mickey bars, nothing! But we were given two nice souvenirs in the form of a large pin/button and a banner. And it was fun to hear so much Disney history but honestly, $40/pp to hear two people talk about Disney and essentially show a glorified PowerPoint presentation? TOO MUCH MONEY! I guess it is only meant for us true DIE HARD Disney fans!!:rotfl:

Doing well this weekend with the food!! Super proud of myself because there were MULTIPLE opportunities to make a "bad" choice and I did not. That being said, yesterday and today it has been a struggle to get my "5" servings in!! I think I made it yesterday (dinner included a side salad and a hot veggie and I ended the night with an apple), but today I'm not so sure! Breakfast was mostly carbs (hot cereal and half a banana) and lunch was chili and an apple! So far today I am only up to 2 servings!! Guess I had better go have some salsa or a salad!!

I need to go do my menu planning for the week, since I've been gone since Friday. I bought two cold rotisserie chickens, so that will make dinner a bit easier at least once! And I have two heads of cauliflower and two heads of garlic roasting to make soup... hopefully a big batch that I can share with my DBIL.

DS has some classmates over and they are video taping themselves making some recipes for Spanish class... hopefully the salsa, tortillas, and virgin margarita are palatable or else it is a lot of wasted ingredients!

TTY tomorrow!..........................P

I was at Disney World in the beginning of October last year ... the Halloween decorations aren't exciting for me because I don't celebrate Halloween ... but I liked that the weather was nice and the crowds weren't too bad when I was there.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all have a great start into the new week!

With the DIS giving me "server busy" messages for all of Saturday I did not get around to post a reply to Lisa's Halloween question this weekend. But I will try to reply to that tonight and post some pictures! :goodvibes

I also got the finisher photo from my race and it is actually a great action shot of me sprinting over the finisher line - need to show you that as well!

Eating was not so good this weekend. I ended up going to the local fair with friends on Friday and did not make the best of all choices there. But it was far better than in the past and I resisted a lot of temptations. I tracked it and thanks to weekly extras, I am still ok. Saturday evening I met friends for an evening of board games and we had pumpkin soup (great for my veggie portions) and the couple who brought dessert brought a fruit salad. And I managed to limit myself to two handful of potato chips. So, while over, not as bad as it could have been again, either. In the past I would have used occasions like that as an excuse to stuff myself. I still could have done better, but I think I am on a good track there.

Friday I did only get about 4.5 servings of fruit/veggies, so I am at 4/7 currently.

While I can't say that we don't celebrate, it isn't an event that I particularly "agree" with.... my kids do dress up (well, they did when they were smaller), but there was always a rule about the costumes not including gore, nothing scary, and no demons. And I do hand out candy for trick-or-treating, but I don't carve jack o'lanterns or decorate with witches and such. I have one "Happy Halloween" sign that I hang on the door for the night of Halloween and other than that I stick with FALL decor. So I totally understand what you are saying!

Great job resisting so much junk! Can't wait to see the official race photo!

Morning all! I got a work call today to work for the remainder of the week.... so I am going to be hustling today. Plus she said she will probably need me most days for the remainder of the calendar year.... :faint: ..... while the money will be good, it definitely means I need to be ORGANIZED! DS's schedule has been busy lately, so that means more driving in the evening for DH and I .... and since DH has committed to helping with driving DBIL to his radiation and other doctor's appointments, that means I will be on call for the driving (at least until DS hopefully gets his driver's license at the end of the month!). So after I sign off with you all this morning, I am putting myself into high gear and making the MOST of today with menu planning for the next 4 weeks, food prep (at least with what I have on hand), and house cleaning and organizing!!

I splurged on some pizza last night for dinner and it was SOOOO not worth the calories. I won't be buying that kind again :sad2: What a disappointment! That being said, since it was lousy, I didn't eat as much as I had planned, so I saved a few calories, anyhow. Next time I want a pizza splurge I will make my own.... healthier, less calories, and tastier!!

To make up for last night's not-so-healthy eating, this morning I had a nice healthy HEALING kale, pumpkin, spinach, banana, carrot, ginger smoothie made with 30 calorie almond milk. It is delicious (just wish it were colder).

Time to get rockin' and rollin'! I will crank up the Disney tunes, put on my comfy yoga pants and an apron and cook and clean like a mad woman! TTYL.....................P

morning everyone!! I had a really productive week last week! I got a bedroom painted! this is big for me, I didn't think I could physically do it, and then I did :thumbsup2

a few years ago I was lucky enough that DH had a convention at WDW in October and of course, I tagged along. I enjoy Halloween, but it's not a fav holiday either like others have said. Anyhow, one year, last minute I decided to go t MNSSHP solo. I had a blast!!! I'm really into scrapbooking and so rare character photos was awesome!! I enjoyed seeing the familys all in costume, some really out did themselves. Since I was last minute, I was kinda lame, bought a glitter Minnie headband (ears) and wore that...but it was so fun!

Magdalene -- CONGRATS!! I  your pic, you look fab!!

ok, I didn't dust off my juicer...my goal this week then it will be. I got into this funk b/c I overdid it *see above triumph....and then I just drug around for 3 days. curse of the chronic illness.

I decided to edit and add a pic from the MNNSHP of 2010

Thanks for sharing the picture! I also love rare character encounters and I haven't yet gotten into a meet and greet situation with those ladies! Maybe next time!

******************

Oh my gosh! I am so tired of being in the kitchen! But I made a big batch of "super healing" chicken soup for DBIL (had a bit for lunch... really yummy!), and a double+ batch of full fat broccoli cheddar soup (I usually make it light so that we can all eat it) as well. I'll send half to DBIL and serve my men the other half. I also made dinner for tonight (mexican baked stuffed spaghetti squash), and as soon as I am done posting here I am going to make a batch of roasted garlic and cauliflower soup.... may or may not pack up a serving or two for DBIL... the rest is for us! Then I need to dash out at 2pm to head to another town to pick up something and then grab DS at school. When I get home I will get down to the CLEANING part of today before dinner!

TTYL......................P

Phew..... I am DARN sick and tired of cooking!! But the soup is all done and packed up and in the freezer for DH to take to DBIL next time he goes down to help with the driving (DBIL is 2 hours away). Plus I have a chicken pasta dish in the freezer I am going to have DH take along so that DBIL can have it handy to feed his girls (he shares custody of 9 y/o twin girls).

Dinner was good, but not as good as the last time I made baked stuffed spaghetti squash.... probably because I used less cheese in an effort to make is less "Pointy". But still delicious and filling!

I need to go prepare for tomorrow's WW meeting because I'm working at school all day, so I need to have everything in the car tonight. I won't come home between jobs.

Hopefully I'll have time to pop on tomorrow at some point in time!............P

This week's healthy habit is have TWO servings of dairy a day.

Clarabelle.jpg

You get one point for each day you hit 2 servings. This challenge starts on Wednesday, October 8th and ends Tuesday, October 14th. Report your results by posting on Tuesday or Wednesday. There will be new habit for the following week.

Note that the actual recommendation for most adults is three servings of one cup a day but you only have to hit two for credit for our challenge.

How and why do you get your 2 a day and how much is a serving you ask? Thanks to these links from choosemyplate.gov you can find out.

Consuming dairy products provides health benefits – especially improved bone health. Foods in the Dairy Group provide nutrients that are vital for health and maintenance of your body. These nutrients include calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein.

Molli, I love your pic! That is a great shot. MNSSHP looks like a blast! :cool2:

Poor planning on my part caused me to come up short on my 5 a day yesterday. :sad2: I had been using a salad at dinner to take care of any shortfalls during the day but I skipped dinner because of my exercise class -- a full tummy and a bunch of intervals are not a good combo. :crazy2: I'm going to have to keep working on this habit because I think it is easy to come up short if you don't pay attention.

Dairy isn't quite as easy for me as fruits and veggies..... but I don't do too badly. I eat nonfat greek yogurt for breakfast at least 3 days a week, I put skim milk in my coffee, and I do eat cheese (usually lowfat). But for my smoothies and in oatmeal I use almond milk, so that doesn't count. This morning's two cups of coffee could probably count as a 1/4 - 1/2 serving because I do put skim in.... and then my serving will be my WW cheese stick I will have for snack on my way to my meeting tonight. I guess I'll have to be sure to get in another 1/2+ serving before bed. Maybe I'll have yogurt for dinner, since I didn't leave my self anything special. I do take calcium and D supplements (when I remember ), so I don't worry particularly much about getting in my cow's milk.... in fact, I actually try NOT to drink/eat much beyond the milk in my coffee and my yogurt.

***************

Happy Tuesday all! I'm at work today with a great 1st grade class. They have been super well behaved. Certainly makes my day easier!

Well.... DD got accepted for a "class abroad" over winter break! This is a huge thing because they only accept 10 students and they usually only accept Juniors and Seniors. The cost is the biggest problem.... approximately $4000.... this would include the class, diving, room and board and other travel expenses. She has applied for a small scholarship that would pay for part of this (less than half). Guess she is waiting to see if she gets that before she gets too excited. We could definitely scrape together the money. But I guess I'll be looking into a part-time job in the evenings between now and Christmas. :rolleyes1 Or my WW members better buy a LOT of products in the very near future!!:lmao: If I could only find a job that pays $100/hr, I could earn what she needs in one week!!:rotfl:

I think I'll spend some time digging up some more stuff to sell this week. Every penny counts, right??

My school has an early release day Thursday and no school Friday or Monday! DS DOES have school that day at the high school. I am picking up DD that day to bring her home for the long weekend (she has Monday off).

Okay.... off to check the Budget Board and figure out how to earn $4,000 in the next 6 weeks!!:thumbsup2 ...........................P

Pam, congratulations to your DD! Where would they go for the class abroad? I will keep my fingers crossed that she gets the scholarship. It sounds like a great opportunity! Also, good luck with all the school work you are in for now! Did they just completely lose one teacher? What kind of subjects are you teaching?

Molly, I love your Halloween picture!! Seems like you had fun at the party!

Lisa, what you said about coming short of your 5 a day because of change of dinner plans, is exactly what happened to me on Friday. And I agree that it is something to work on. I really liked Pam's approach of having veggies with every meal including breakfast. That inspired me today to have some carrots for breakfast. Most likely only half a serving, but every ounce counts! :thumbsup2

My final report for the challenge is 6/7. I missed Friday because I decided to have fun with friends at the fair. I still got 4.5 servings, and if I would count the battered and fried onion (kind of like in an onion ring) I could maybe justify that it was 5 servings, but not with a good conscience. AS I said in response to Lisa, one thing I learned is to try to get your veggies and fruits in early in the day as you never know what might deviate you from your plan. The challenge truly inspired me to add more vegetables to my meals and even use them as a snack. The other day I snacked on a bowl of steamed (in the microwave) broccoli that I seasoned with a spice mix that is supposed to go into salad dressings. It was delicious!

The new challenge will be more difficult for me, even though I have taken to eat more dairy recently in my effort to get more protein. But dairy has points and it is not my favourite thing to use points on... :rolleyes1 So, we will see how this goes. I think it will inspire me to come up with more inventive ideas on how to incorporate dairy into my diet... And I might use this week to eat some nice cheese! :thumbsup2

And as promised, here something on the Halloween question:

Since it is not celebrated in Germany (however, it is starting to come over from the US in recent years), I was always fascinated with Halloween. I like pumpkin decorations! But I don't like the gore aspects of it.

In 2007 we were at DLP during October and the park there was decorated for Halloween. It was really nice! On Main Street they had "Pumpkin Men" as a theme and in Frontierland it was all about some witches. Sorry, I did not get any good pictures of the decorations. Since then they have changed the decor and it is more a harvest theme (supposedly, haven't been back in the fall).

Then, in 2011 my sister and I were at WDW in October and we went to the Halloween Party and had a lot of fun. I really loved the trick or treating because that is something I had never done as a kid! I also loved the parade and the fireworks were spectacular! Not sure I would want to pay for the party every year, but once in a while, it is really neat! We did not dress up, but got lovely pumpkin Mickey Ears:
