WISH Wellness Challenge Musing Wednesday, October 15, 2014: What is one of your favorite songs on your workout playlist? Have you added any new songs lately? If you don't workout to music, is there a song that inspires you?

Need some inspiration for some new workout music? Check out this article from sparkpeople.com called 13 Inspiring Instrumental Workout Songs
http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=13_inspiring_instrumental_workout_songs

I don't have workout music playlist or anything. Lots of songs are inspiring but typically anymore I don't have music. I just walk outside usually with dd so we talk instead or ride bike(to tv). In the past I've picked albums that are artists I adore all songs on the album so it seems to be just moving along and before I know it almost done.

Thanks for offering to take a question but someone beat you to it this time. :flower3:

I love the hat! Even though I can't believe that it is cool enough there yet to need it. ;)

Its not! Cool enough that is. But dd doesn't care. ;) I'm working on a bear one for her now with the leftover brown yarn I have. Later in the month I will get yarn to start on blanket projects for Christmas gifts. DD wants a Enderman(Minecraft) blanket and pillows with creeper(those with preteen kids probably know what these are if not google...hehe). I want to make a Dusty(Planes) blanket and pillow for my friend's 9 year old son and Tinkerbell for her 4 year old dd. Maybe Mickey for her 2 year old(well soon to be) son. Not sure on the older ones probably something else those projects will be enough. I'll see how long the first one takes. I go pretty fast but not sure on big projects I can make two hats in a day easy.

Guess it works out someone else got the day. I may be staying with my friend that weekend so I can teach her to crochet(well what I know of it anyway) and or knit on the round looms I have. I think it will help with her depression by helping her to relax if she gets it down(she is not the most patient person) and can handle it without much thought.

Morning all! HAPPY THURSDAY to you all! The weekend is nearly here!! And I'm here for another day of first grade! The kids are actually really good and the teacher left excellent clear plans, so this hasn't been a bad gig at all..... but tomorrow is Grandparents' Day, so I'll reserve judgement until that craziness has passed!!

Exercise yesterday wasn't nearly as much as I had planned. My DH had told me that there was a Market Basket "right near by" so I headed off toward it to grab a few things figuring I had plenty of time to buy apples and such and the drive back to where DS was and change into my exercise shorts and get in a nice walk.... except the market was 20 minutes away!! By the time I got there and back my time was very short....:crazy2:

Sneakers are in the car for today.... but there is a heavy rain predicted for this afternoon so I may not be able to head outside while my kids are at Art. I may end up having to wait and hit the TM when I get home.

Feeling very "thick" around my middle this week..... which is usually a sign that the scale is heading UP.... and I know that my eating and most especially my evening eating has NOT been what is should be this week.... so not expecting very good news on the scale tomorrow.

I didn't answer the question about workout music because I don't have much that would be very exciting. Most of my music is stuff that I "inherited" from DD and while I like it, it wasn't exactly my first choice.... and if I am on my TM, I usually watch a show or documentary rather than listen to music. Lately I've been listening to some TED Radio Hour podcasts in the car and REALLY enjoying them, so I may download the app to my phone and try listening to those instead of music.

Breakfast today is a green smoothie with some new chocolate protein powder that DH found at Costco.... it is sweetened with stevia and has a very reasonably clean list of ingredients, but I only used a half portion in my smoothie since I already had avocado and almond milk to count, so it isn't very chocolately.... but still pretty good.

Kids will be arriving in the next 5 minutes, so I'm gonna dash for now.......P

Yooohoooo!!!! Where is everyone??

I've got a few minutes while my kids are at music so I thought I'd pop on and catch up with the chatter.... except that there hasn't been any!

It is POURING rain here this afternoon, so today's walk will be INDOORS!

I am just remembering that I never got around to sharing that cauliflower and garlic soup recipe with you, so I'll make sure to get that posted tonight! And my mom made a kale soup that she shared with me last weekend and it was delicious.... so I'll be getting the recipe for that as well

I will be home about 3:15 today and then need to dash out again at 5pm to pick up DS at driver's ed, but that gives me enough time to get dinner going, toss in a load of laundry AND hit the TM.... no excuses!!

TTYL...........P

I am back from my trip. Eating was ok-ish. I cuold have made better choices, but I also made quite a few very good choices. I was able to walk my 10000 daily steps. So all in all, I am happy with myself as it proved to me that I can be responsible with my food choices if I put energy into it.

Now I am looking forward to going for a run tonight to start off this weeks challenge!!

On the dairy challenge I can report 5/7. And the other two days I had at least one serving of dairy.

One of the interesting things I learned from doing some research on calcium is that oats are very rich in calcium! So my favourite breakfast of oats with dairy is really good in that regard!!

Sounds like a fun week-end and some good choices! :thumbsup2

Interesting to hear there are so many more sources of calcium than we knew about. :cool2:

Favorite song depends on the day. There are two that I added recently that I like a lot - "Chandelier" by Sia and "Toro" by Subliminal (it's an Israeli rap song that has a really good beat). I also like a lot of my older stuff. "Heart of a Champion" by Nelly is one that always encourages me to work a little harder.

My playlist is a lot of rap ... which is weird because I don't normally listen to rap, but I find it often has a good beat for running.

You definitely need something with a beat for running! ::yes::

You should get some music of your own to listen to sometime, Pamela! ;) Or you can do like I do and get some angry teen boy music from your DS. :rotfl:

Sorry for the rainy day, Pamela! :umbrella:

I think that things are going to continue to be quiet as our last challenge draws to a close. I have to confess I'm going to be MIA for the rest of the week myself as I get ready to have a blast with my WISH visitors. :cool2:

I am rocking with my exercise challenge and used one of my rest days yesterday. :thumbsup2

Have a great week-end all! :goodvibes:

Good morning my friends and HAPPY FRIDAY!!:cool1:

I just have a minute to say hello and wish you all a good day. I am up and nearly dressed, laundry is chugging, dishwasher is unloaded, coffee is made, and DS has a FULL DAY field trip and I am giving myself a break and letting him buy his lunch and dinner on this field trip (to a college, so they will be eating in the student union... at least it's not fast food). Dinner for DH and I was pulled from the freezer yesterday and will just need a warm-up tonight (veggie stuffed zucchini) and to be topped with a bit of cheese at the end. And my lunch for work today is a mason jar of soup that I froze a few weeks ago plus an apple... super easy and quick and delicious!!

Today is Grandparents' Day at my school.... I am not looking forward to the craziness! But the day should go by quickly. And at least I don't have to teach any big lessons today.... it will be some easy stuff, crafts, worksheets, etc.

Yesterday's workout ended up getting shortened, but I managed to get in 22 minutes. I had forgotten there was a robotics meeting last night... I got off the TM to throw the ingredients for an egg pie in the oven and intended to get back on for another 15-20 minutes while dinner cooked.... but as I chopped broccoli DH reminded me about the meeting and I literally had 15 minutes to wash up and pack a few sandwiches before we had to dash! :( I have told my men OVER AND OVER to PLEASE put that stuff on the family calendar. Yes, I SHOULD have remembered.... but my memory is FULL!

Time to make breakfast smoothies! I'll try to chat later today...............P

Good morning everyone! Hope you all are doing better than me - seems that my weight is creeping up currently. :furious: It might be TOM (I am due tomorrow), but I feel that I just can't get a grip on this losing weight thing anymore. I am thinking that I need to get a doctor's appointment to get checked if anything is wrong with me. But I feel a bit emberassed going to my doctor to tell him that I am not losing weight as I am afraid that he will think I am eating too much or exercising too little and not believe that I am doing it! Alternatively, I am thinking of going back to tracking calories instead of points as it seems to be more precise... Well, I have decided that starting tomorrow I will try to only eat measured meals - easier to do during the weekend. And bring packed lunches to work next week. We will see how it works if I don't have to estimate the points for my bought lunches (even the healthy stuff I get like salads put together from vegetables at a salad bar to which I then add one tea spoon of olive oil and some vinegar and no dressing).

I had a great run on Wednesday and walked my usual hour (to and from work) yesterday, so I think I am fine with the current challenge so far. I am planning to do some core exercises and upper body tonight.

Sounds like another busy day for you today, Pamela! :flower3: Busy days are fun because they fly by! ::yes::

Would your guys be more excited about updating the family calendar if it was an app on their phone or a shared Google calendar? :confused3 If it is anything like around here the guys are great at keeping track of work and school stuff but rely on mom to keep stuff straight at home -- I guess we should be glad we are needed. :rotfl:

Sorry for the tough week, Magdalene! Hopefully it is just hormonal and will pass. I doubt seriously that your doctor would find that you aren't doing enough for your healthy lifestyle because you are working very hard at it. :flower3:

Tracking is going to be the habit for next week so you will be getting a head start! :cool2:

I can totally understand your frustration. Sometimes it feels like you are doing everything right and the scale just refuses to move (or moves in the wrong direction :furious: ). It might be time to try something new.... I think packing your lunch from home is a great place to start. Start with that change and see what happens. If it doesn't make a difference, then figure out another change to try....maybe eating less carbs or eating more for breakfast and less later in the day or more fiber-filled foods or more protein. Or maybe you just aren't eating ENOUGH and your metabolism isn't burning the way it should be/could be. Are you really figuring out your activity PPV correctly? Are you using those PPV? Are you using your weekly PPV? Despite sounding counter-intuitive, maybe you aren't eating ENOUGH for your level of activity. But start with ONE SMALL CHANGE and see if that helps.

That is actually a great idea!! Both of them do keep their schedules on their phones, so perhaps it is time for us to find a way to share calendars. I'm just old school and like my paper calendar on the kitchen wall.

Looking forward to a habit that I can get into!!

Lisa, DS should have his license before Halloween (assuming he passes the tests the first time). I just can't believe I am THAT OLD.... and that HE is that old! When did that happen!??:rotfl:

***********************

Well, Grandparents' Day (or actually Grandparents "morning plus lunch") went really well. I didn't lose any kids, I didn't have any grandparents get up in my face about taking their students home without a permission slip (yes, it happens) and I only had one student in tears because he didn't have any grandparents or special friends here. But he was "adopted" by another grammy and the day was saved. I also had a student PLUS a Grandfather that brough me an "apple for the teacher", which was super sweet! I've been here for 11 years and those were my first apples!!

The schedule was crazy (early recess, early lunch, and re-arranged gym time) and the kids thought it was time to go home about 30 minutes ago.... when I had to tell them that they had more than 2 hours left, they weren't happy!:rotfl2:

We do have a short movie scheduled for this afternoon, so that will end the day nicely!

Off to make a puzzle!................P

Down 2 more lbs. :yay::banana: Let's hope its stable but after last week having TOM its balancing out. 4.8 lbs to my mini goal of breaking out of the 300s. I'm hesitant because I have not been all that reliable or consistent with my tracking. I think some of it has to be the Metformin helping my insulin reactions or something. However I'm not seeing much change on my fasting glucose when I take it. :worried: I'm sure she will want to increase it and it already gives me yucky GI issues. :sad2: But if its helping me lose I think that will outweigh temporary side effects but also gotta work at tracking so I can watch what makes the sugar go up. I want to be losing weight but would love to get off the meds in time too.

Walking went okay wednesday but missed it last night and we are soooo far behind on school. If weather keeps dry we may take one this afternoon to break up a lot of this school work dd has left. I can make the rest of the week of 20 minutes.

Congrats on losing this week! Good job getting a walk in on Wednesday!

I'm home and had a great HIKE this afternoon! It was well worth the risk of being arrested for trespassing!:rotfl: Gorgeous area, saw some beautiful scenery, and it was quiet and peaceful... nothing but the birds, crickets, chipmunks, the breeze, and me!

Dinner is warming and my belly and brain are enjoying my evening cocktail (which I tracked, of course!). Just relaxing now with some computer time and plan to do some reading after I eat.

I will be back in the a.m. to chat!..........................P

Happy Saturday my friends!! I am hoping you all have WONDERFUL RELAXING plans for this weekend that include fun and friends.... and if your only plans include work of some variety (paid, housework, kid taxi-ing), well.... God bless you and I hope you find a few minutes for yoursel!!:rotfl2:

I have a mix of both on the schedule this weekend. DS is at a Model UN conference today at the local h.s. I have a Fall conference all afternoon for WW and I will bookend that with a stop at the thrift store before hand to look for Halloween costume parts and a quick stop at the market after for a few grocery items. And tomorrow will be yard work, housework, costume work, cooking, and maybe a bit of crafting.

The sun was shining a little while ago despite the forecasted rain, so I went ahead and hung a load of jeans on the clothesline.... but of course NOW it has totally clouded over. :(

As soon as I have DS here to help me download the pictures from my phone to the computer, I will share some pictures I took yesterday during my hike. It was really beautiful!

Thinking back to a previous weekly challenge, I have already had 2.5 servings of veggies today!! I had an egg white/light cheddar scramble with about 1.5 C of broccoli and about 1/2 C of green peppers. It was HUGE and filled the plate (and my belly) quite nicely.

I'm going to dash for now! I may or may not have a chance to pop on again later today...................P

hello again....well the past 2 weeks have been more of a challenge than I could manage :( I allowed DH's youngest son to stay with us a few days even though my gut told me not to....he is a drug addict....I am always uncomfortable when he is around as he has ALWAYS taken things from us....typically change from our change jar, and ipod or 2 through the years....well this time he hit the jackpot..... the new iphone5 I had gotten for our oldest [we hadn't even gotten it activated yet], all 3 ipads that were in the house [one was my work one], 2 nooks, my old iphone that our youngest with down syndrome claimed as his, our daughters ipod, about $4000 in tools...and each day we find more and more...my blood just boils anytime I think about it. The BEST part is that he got picked up on an outstanding warrant the day after he stole everything from us, they questioned him, he originally denied it but a day later admitting to taking everything but had already gotten rid of it all for drugs and THEY LET HIM OUT OF JAIL!!!!!
So if any of you are stress eaters like I am you can only imagine what my diet has been like....
My goal right now is to try and just regain some sense of control....I mentioned our youngest has Down Syndrome with autistic tendencies...he LIVED on the ipads...that was his link to the world, what kept him calm and engaged at times....he has no concept of what his older brother has done...he just asks me again and again to help him find his ipad .... breaks my heart every time....

So my goal for this week is to just breathe and try and regain control of my eating.

Hoping to spend some time today going back and catching up on everyone and their successes :cool1: I think that will help me kick start my week!

Jen I am so sorry that all that has hit this week. I think you have a great goal for the up coming week.

I'm posting a bonus question for Sunday since it looks like we didn't have a Saturday question courtesy of a recycled QOTD from our archive thread. :cool2:

WISH Wellness Challenge Musing Sunday, October 19, 2014: Mondays are hard! What is one thing you have to look forward to this week?

Jen, I am so sorry that you are in such a situation! In my profession I have to deal with drug addicts now and then, and it is always heartbreaking to see that one person with an addiction is able to have such a negative impact on so many! Lots of hugs!!

WISH Wellness Challenge Musing Sunday, October 19, 2014: Mondays are hard! What is one thing you have to look forward to this week?

I am so sorry that I did not post a question yesterday!! I managed to temporarily destroy my mac by thinking I should update to Yosemite... Well, first attempt failed, but now it is restored and working again. Was a bit of a scare as it was just stuck for hours and hours.

The one thing I am looking forward to this week is that next weekend I am going to meet three girlfriends from university!! It was so difficult to find a time when we were all available, but it worked and I am so happy that we could make it happen! Haven't seen them for far too long!

---

I am having a lousy weekend with far too little energy, a head ache and general grumpiness. Well, at least my suspicion of TOM being the reason for my current unpleasant weigh ins seems to be true as the scale moved down two pounds today. And I know that the grumpiness etc. is also due to TOM, so hopefully tomorrow the world will be nicer again!!

And the weekend was not too bad either... I got quite a bit of walking in, looked at some furniture (still need quite a few things for my new place where I have been living for a year now) and found some things that I like, so hopefully will be able to get something soon.

I have been doing well with regard to eating. Pam, I wanted to say thanks for your encouragement! I don't think I am eating too little. I usually eat quite a few of my weekly points and I think that's the problem. I need to be very good about sticking to my 26 points. Then I am losing weight. It is just scary as this means that I will never be able to maintain weight without being extremely strict at what I am eating... But I am determined to make the lunches work. I made a pasta bake yesterday and have some left overs that I put in the fridge. I like it cold, too, so that takes care of one day together with some bell peppers, cucumber or carrots. Tomorrow I am planning on a rye bread sandwich.

I also decided that I need to do more for my bowels. After reading how having the right bacteria makes a huge difference, I decided to try to eat stuff that is good for the digestive system. I already get a lot of fiber in my daily diet, but decided to get some more probiotic yoghurt. It was difficult to find some that don't contain artificial sweeteners (I have been staying away from them for a month now and find that I am doing well without them - only once did I totally forget about them and ordered a light frappuccino at Starbucks). But I was successful and they are 2 points per portion, so I think they will make a good office snack!

hello again....well the past 2 weeks have been more of a challenge than I could manage :( I allowed DH's youngest son to stay with us a few days even though my gut told me not to....he is a drug addict....I am always uncomfortable when he is around as he has ALWAYS taken things from us....typically change from our change jar, and ipod or 2 through the years....well this time he hit the jackpot..... the new iphone5 I had gotten for our oldest [we hadn't even gotten it activated yet], all 3 ipads that were in the house [one was my work one], 2 nooks, my old iphone that our youngest with down syndrome claimed as his, our daughters ipod, about $4000 in tools...and each day we find more and more...my blood just boils anytime I think about it.

First of all.... hugs and prayers coming for ALL of you.

Second of all... yup.... just BREATHE and take care of yourself (and your kiddos). Make a plan for some exercise and some healthy meals this week... even if they are SUPER SIMPLE meals. If you take control of you (your eating and exercise) I PROMISE, everything else will look better!!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Looking forward to going to MA to help my Mom's church with rummage sale and looking forward to Parents' weekend at DD's school next weekend and looking forward to DS finishing Drivers' Ed this week! (But NOT looking forward to him driving.... too much worrying about all the other crazy people on the road!)

I am so sorry that I did not post a question yesterday!! I managed to temporarily destroy my mac by thinking I should update to Yosemite... Well, first attempt failed, but now it is restored and working again. Was a bit of a scare as it was just stuck for hours and hours.

That's okay! We survived!! Hope your computer is healed!

The one thing I am looking forward to this week is that next weekend I am going to meet three girlfriends from university!! It was so difficult to find a time when we were all available, but it worked and I am so happy that we could make it happen! Haven't seen them for far too long!

YEAH for friends!!

:rotfl: I know the feeling!!

Oohhh.... furniture shopping! Love it!

You WILL find a way to live within your Daily Points Target. It may take some adjusting over the years, but it can be done!! It sounds like you are well on your way to making those adjustments with all of those veggies! I honestly can say that if people refuse to eat veggies, I don't know HOW they live on maintenance. I would starve without my fruits and veggies... truly!!

Sounds like some good ideas. Skip those artificial sweeteners!!!!!

I've recently re-started DS on probiotics (and myself when I actually remember to take them). He has been diagnosed with Leaky Gut syndrome and it has been an issue with him for 14 years. I don't think he will every be able to just "ignore" the issue. I'd love it if he would eat more probiotic foods and less white carbs.... but overall he does well (thanks to his Mom ;)). Unfortunately he doesn't care much for most fruits and veggies, so that makes thing hard. But I make sure he gets plenty of the fruits and veggies he WILL eat!

Morning all! The morning has gotten away from me, so I'll just say hello before I dash. I'm meeting a woman to buy a few things from a FB yard sale this morning, then off for my LOOOOONG overdue mammogram and eye doctors appointment. Then I will pick up DS and be home for the evening! I was hoping to squeeze in some thrift store shopping somewhere in the day (DS still needs some costume parts), but now I'm not sure. I will pack up my healthy lunch and drink to have in the car between appointments.

TTYL.......................P

This week I am looking forward to having my mom move to her new place here. :thumbsup2 We haven't lived in the same town since 1989! :rotfl:

No worries on the musing question, Magdalene! I figured that there was some technical issue going on. Glad that your computer is all fixed now! :flower3:

A girls week-end sounds like fun! :cool2: I had a blast with my WISH friends this week-end. You can't beat a little girl time! ::yes::

The more you learn about gut health the more that you realize it is so important for so many aspects of overall health. :goodvibes

Sounds like a fun time helping your mom with the rummage sale this week, Pamela! :cool2:

I had a great time at my race on Saturday. It was a totally hilly and challenging course and I was really happy to finish only 90 seconds slower than my PR a few weeks ago. And have my last mile be my second fastest mile instead of the slowest. :thumbsup2 Not to mention I had a wonderful visit with my two WISH friends.

Huge congrats on this race... it sounds challenging!! And I'm so glad you had a great visit with your friends! I miss not having girlfriends to spend time with! DD is WONDERFUL and I adore our time together.... but she has her own life and I need friends my own age!:rotfl2:

Evening all! Today has ZOOOMED by! I was out and about.... got "Squished" (mammogram) and perfect to do it during Breast Cancer Awareness month!! And got my eyes checked and picked out new glasses frames that got a thumbs up from DD! Plus a few other errands and lots of driving time.... and now I need to get some cards made!

Working double jobs tomorrow, so I probably will NOT be here to check in at all! Think you all can handle it without me?? :thumbsup2 .................P

WISH Wellness Challenge Musing Sunday, October 19, 2014: Mondays are hard! What is one thing you have to look forward to this week?

I'm hoping to get a haircut tomorrow! My hair has gotten too long and unruly for me.

I hope everyone is having a good week. I've been reading through the thread, but haven't had time to respond (shouldn't even be taking the time to respond now, but I am anyway).
I'm okay, nothing exciting going on other than needing more sleep. I'm hoping to get to bed early tonight, but we'll see.

Anyway, that's all for me. Have a great day/night, all!
