** WISH Volunteers for WDW Marathon Weekend **

OK, I just tried again.
I had to keep going back a page when I got the error and made it all the way to the end where I have a confirmation #.
So , I guess I am registered to do stop #11 for the Full Marathon. I have not gotten an email yet.

I'd love to volunteer for the half but have a few questions......

If we don't have a car however do we get there? I'm particularly concerned about the positions where you have to be at WWoS at around 5am because at that hour it's sheer gridlock on the roads.

When we work can we wear our WISH shirts or do they give us a regulation outfit? I seem to remember that the WISH people last year were not wearing their shirts because it took me a few seconds to register who they were.

Jeanne there is from what I understand going to be a thread for the half volunteering. Erica and I along with some others will be volunteeing. We will have a car and if you are in the BWV area you can ride over with us.

I do think we all had our WISH shirts on - but it was cooler and we had our marathon volunteer windbreakers on over them. I also had on my lime green WISH hat.

Judy & I decided to keep it simple with one single volunteer thread for all the races & expo.

Website is back up! I'm officially registered as a volunteer--as well as Scott!:cool1:

I just checked my myactive account and looked at my registrations and it shows up there!!! Yeah!!

--OK who is joining me at water stop mile #11 for the FULL-- ?????
Come on you know you want to do it. We'll have lots o'fun!! You'll get to hang with me and that's pretty cool, ..right?? :confused3
It is the 5am -10:30am shift.

To Everyone Last One Of You Ladies and Gentlemen:

You're either really odd or really wonderful, you get to choose. To be so excited and early about volunteering is amazing. I will look for you all on the course Saturday and Sunday.

When everything is finalized, if you could come up with a master list of names and locations, that would help the runners a lot. It's amazing how much easier a stretch is when you know in a couple of miles you'll see a good friend.

Best

Craig, can we be odd AND wonderful??? ;) You have to know, we had SO MUCH FUN doing this last year, THAT is why we are so excited to do it again! :yay:

I am keeping a running tab of who's going to be where on the first page of this post. Kristi is heling me stay organized, thank goodness, but everyone should speak up if I haven't put you on the list yet. :thumbsup2

Jeanne and anyone else who has a question about getting there.....You have to get to WWoS on your own, then they bus you to the Volunteer Staging Area (Which last year was right at the end of the first corral so we go to see those WISHers doing the Full which was great) then they take you to your appointed spot. RWS#2 was so close we walked right over. I assume they take you by bus to the other volunteer spots further away.

Last year when we checked in they gave us our windbreakers :thumbsup2 and a box of snacks :teeth: and our lanyards.

When you are done with your volunteering duties, you are taken back to the Staging Area then taken by bus back to WWoS where you collect your one-day park ticket.

FYI, they are VERY SERIOUS about Security when volunteering so you must bring photo ID and they give you a lanyard with your "volunteering ID" on it and you must wear it at all times.

Hi guys! I found out that the medals being handed for the Full Marathon is reserved by a group...so, no WISHers will able hand out the medals. Darn. I thought that would be a lot of fun! I'm not sure if the same group is reserved for the 1/2 Marathon or not... Here's the e-mail I got.

Hi Stacie,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, the medal location for the
marathon is filled with a group location. We do have many other exciting
areas that you can register for.

Should you have any questions, please contact me.

Have a Magical Day!

Woohoo!! I was finally able to get registered (I know the active.com website has been down - there was even a note about it on the Chicago Distance Classic email I got today) and am confirmed at Red Water Stop #2 for the Full. I may have to go get a nap after that, though! :faint: Looking forward to cheering on the course when I am done volunteering, for sure.

Thanks so much for the offer, Dave, but we plan to stay at the Poly for the marathon and there's no easy way to get over to Boardwalk. Let me think about this one a little.....we were considering renting a car because my son will probably be flying into Sanford instead of MCO. Now we will have 2 reasons to rent one. What is the specific name of the spot where you and Erica will be working? I mentioned it to John at lunch and he was excited about doing it also.

Erica said something about water stop #9 at the half, she is going to let Kristi know, I think she is asking Lynn and Debra to join us. I will be wearing a Panda suit, on second thought, scratch the Panda suit.

Judy

More than most people I know, you truly are both odd and wonderful  .

Craig

I'm not feeling any love from the House of Panda...:sad2:

Sweet Queen:hug:

Of course we love you beautiful and witty Queen Judy. Please put us altogether with Jeanne, John, Lynn, Debra and I on water stop #9 for the half.

We want to be there to encourage you to be strong for the last part of your journey.:flower3: We will have panda loot as presents for the Queen.

Humble Panda:angel:

OK, I just checked and my son will NOT be flying into Sanford since they only have 2 flights/week during the off-season. He's going to have to bite the bullet and pay the bigger airfare or drive over 2 hours and leave from ATL. Long story short, we will NOT be renting a car. That means I can get to any monorail stop including the main Epcot entrance, but not Boardwalk. If there is someone else at any of those hotels who is also volunteering I can hitch a ride with them. If not, I will just be part of the official scream team at TTC, Poly and finish line. I gotta be out there to cheer on my buddy Nancy and everyone else!

Queen Judy and Kristi,

Dave, Lynn, Debra, and I would be honored to volunteer for water stop # 9 for the half.

Erica:)
