** WISH Volunteers for WDW Marathon Weekend **

Something is wrong with the link to sign up. I'm using a Mac, Safari browser and it cannot open the link to register online to volunteer as it indicates too many redirects.

Bummer!!!!! :-(

Maybe water stop #11 or #12?? I believe the water stops relates to the mile markers.
#11 is the one as you exit the Magic Kingdom or maybe #12 that is the one right after that very quiet section on Floridian Way with all the trees and no one to cheer.
I believe the times required was 5am to 10:30am.
What do you all think that want a later time??

Tracy--if I remember correctly, the #12 water stop was actually fairly busy with spectators, etc. This is right around Shades of Green and the Grand Floridian, and there are uniformed servicemen and cast members from the resorts cheering the runners on. The stretch before that (right after you leave the MK) is somewhat long and narrow, but not too boring because the racers are all crammed into one lane of Floridian Way. I remember it being really congested through this area.

I really shouldn't have any say at all, as I'll be running instead of volunteering or cheering, but if I had to pick a spot that I would LOVE to see WISHers at a water stop (other than Red #2, which is great!), it would be either #15 or anywhere between #19-22. Those are all pretty boring stretches of highway, and by the stretch from AK to MGM, you're tired and any recognizable faces or WISH shirts would definitely be a welcome site!

You all ROCK for volunteering! It will be great to see so many teammates out there!

Steve

I think having a later 'official' (or rather unofficial) WISH volunteer section would be fabulous! I know that I personally went for the early time frame (mainly the early finish time) so that I could be free to scream team elsewhere later in the morning. I am by no means an early bird, so I totally understand those who don't want to be at WWoS at 3am! :rotfl:

So, any votes for a later position?
Tracy suggested water stop #11 or #12.
Last year I had thought it would be neat to be at simply a cheering section.
I like Stephen's idea of being further along down the course too.
Or how cool would it be to have WISHers giving the bling?! :thumbsup2

OK, thought about it and would still like to do #11 or #12, I know about the Floridian Way area from doing the Half, I thought that area was quite boring, although maybe for the Full it isn't. I thought that either before that section or right after that section would be good. Also I think the time chunk is resonable from 5am to 10:30am. Could give a chance to get back over to the finish to cheer people on that you saw at the water stop. Also my travel partner will not be volunteering that early and that would give others the chance to go hang with family members at the parks or go to the finish area.
Just a thought. Anyone else like #11 or #12, give your opinion and maybe get a small group to do one of them??

The link isn't working for me either. Jim had a blast last year at Red #2 and this time we both want to do it and then be able to scream team along the course. Last year Jim was finished at stop #2 by 8:30AM.

Patrick and I have decided to do the BLUE water stop #2 for WISHers on that course then we'll move and find a spot either between AK and MGM or at BC to scream some more!

Ok, the 2009 marathon will be my first...can anyone give me the basics about blue vs. red? I had no idea there were 2 courses???

I haven't done the full but if you see the Full Marathon course map, Map.
It has two different start areas for the different corrals a Red Start and a Blue start. They do meet up at about between Mile 3-4. Like a stagered start but at the same time. The Half has different start times depending on your corral.
Maybe someone else could explain it better. :confused3

**UPDATE** I just saw on Disneyrunning Forum that some of them are signing up for the #12 water stop and some for the #7, Maybe we could do #11 .
What do ya'all think??**

Ok, let me try to stay organized and do a little recap, if I might... :)

Martha, Pat & Jim - would like to be at red water stop #2, having trouble with online sign-up

Patrick & Liz - signed up for Blue Water Stop #2

Jen - signed up to volunteer - but we aren't sure exactly where she is yet... :cool2:

Erica - yes, I will start a thread for half volunteers real soon. I wanted to post the positions available.
But it seems the Disney Sports/active.com site is on hiatus.

Sara - keep us posted!

Krista & Carter - scream teaming at mile 24 / Beach Club :yay:
I am hoping to meet up with the BC gang after the water stop.

Stacie
- interested in handing out medals or water stop #11

Tracy - possibly water stop #11

Ok, let's see...here's what I am thinking at this point:
  • More WISHers at the Blue Water Stop #2
  • Another group at water stop #11
  • A WISH contigent further down the course, maybe handing out medals, or the last food stop? In any case, I think we should pick one a.s.a.p.

I like how we did this last year.
Nothing was very structured, but WISHers were everywhere!
Anne is our Scream Teamer Extraordinaire. :worship:

I do have some green cow bells and lime green beach towels from Target for Scream Team purposes.
I will keep my eyes open of other supplies we might need to be as annoying... I mean...to be as festive as possible. :rotfl:

Yippee! Since Scott and I are not doing the full again this year (another :cool1: ) I would love to volunteer. I would LOVE to help out at either blue or red start water stop, so I can high tail it back over to BC to scream team some more. The scream teamers at BC were a God send, especially Krista and Angie! I want to help out this time, get the WISHers to that finish line!

That being said, I know Scott won't be renting a car for our trip. So, for me to be able to volunteer I would need a ride Sunday morning--anyone, anyone???????

Kristi--as luck would have it we're at BCV too! Ya know it's the marathon weekend party place! So, can I squeeze in your car, huh, can I? Can I?

I have tried to go the site a few times since yesterday and it is telling me that it is temporarily down. I want to volunteer (if possible) but right now, I don't know if I will be able too. I guess I may just have to line the street and cheer, if I can't log in.

Jenn, please keep in mind...I neeeeed you there! Please please please! I need you that morning. You're my moral support!

OK, should I put you down for the Full Red Water Stop #2? popcorn::

YESSS!!! I have the confirmation sheet that I am registered for Red #2. And dearest Judith... I am doing my best to make it there this year. I just hope the cards all work out for me with the conventions and other obligations. DH and I already talked that if I have to, I will go solo!!!

We're staying at OKW and will have a car so if someone wants the 3am shift and needs a ride to WWoS, let us know.

BTW, appears the site is still having problems.

Stephanie - I will be happy to have you ride along with me! :thumbsup2

Jen -

Bubba73 - I don't think you need to worry. Registration just opened. As soon as the website is up, you can register. :thumbsup2

I have been trying to get into the registration page all morning as well. I will have the page open here at work for about another hour. If I notice the site working again, I will post here.

Hi. DH & I can't "officially" sign up to volunteer for the full, we'll have DD with us, and she's not old enough yet :( We're planning on being in Epcot early morning for breakfast, and plan to stay to cheer everyone on.:cheer2: Will there be anything organized that we won't have to "officialy" register for?

How do you volunteer for handing out the medals? I don't see a medal hander-outer on the list. :goodvibes

Stacie

PS. I'm trying to check w/ DH to see what he prefers and I will get back and let you guys know what we decide...
