Auditions were ok, but I was the wrong height for their needs at the moment. :sad2: I cheered myself up with a bit of pin trading and dinner so the drive out there wasn't all a loss.

In better news my half went well and I had a new PR by 13 minutes! :yay: I had never run real hills before and while the uphill parts suck, the downhill is fast! I was so excited I wanted so sign up for another race right away, but there is nothing longer than 10k until the fall so I guess it'll be shorter races for a while.
sorry about the job  hopefully one will come up again. Great news on your 1/2!!!! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone. Once again, I haven't been on here in forever. There is no way I can get completely caught up on all that I've missed. I have kept up my running. My 11 year old son and I are running a 10k Saturday, and it's the first short race I've ever run. I would be going for a win if I weren't running with my son. My neighbor won the women's event last year, and I train at a faster pace than she does.;) (I never thought I'd be able to say that.) But, it's my little boy's first race and, if he finishes it, I'll be thrilled. :lovestruc He is just not a runner. But, he's doing it for me.

I hope your 10K went well today!!!! how awesome your son is running it with you!!

How is everyone else?
Well, so you know I really haven't been running much :headache: BUT I am signed up for a 1/2 next weekend.. :rolleyes1 its part of a double marathon thingy here in the state of MD.. you run the Frederick and then run the Baltimore in Oct and you get a special double medal.

okay, seriously, how bad to you think I would do if I attempted it?? I probably have ran about 3-4 times a month since Jan... I know I could walk it and keep ahead of the sweep (16pace).. part of me feels like I shouldn't because I haven't trained for it, but another part of me says.. go do it.. do what you can and walk a lot if you have too.. but I am worried that I will really injure myself? what do you think?

I'm so excited! I got 3rd in my age group at a 5K I did yesterday! :cool1: (That just shows you how very few people showed up who were in my age group! :lmao: ) But, I don't care. It was a PR for me, and my birthday weekend, and an age group award is something I never ever thought I'd see!

In fact, I left after the race and didn't make it through the awards ceremony because I was toward the back of the pack, so I didn't know until I got back to my hotel with my kids that I had even placed! I'm so disappointed that I didn't get my award and my 5 minutes of fame.

I made some calls last night and was told that the awards were probably placed in the office and they wouldn't be open until Monday morning. So, I came back home (about 2 hours away) and was given the number of someone to call in the morning to ask. I HOPE they'll be willing to mail my award to me. I can't believe that the one and only time I haven't stayed to wish all the winners well, I would have actually gotten an award! Go figure...

My foot is still absolutely KILLING me though. It was OK through the 5K, but it hurt afterward and is sore now. It has been taking 2-3 weeks to get over the pain lately. That is a pain in the tail! So, I'm going to take a hiatus and try not to do ANYTHING with it until the first week of June when we're on vacation. I'll try it again then. I thought it was just inflammation before but now I'm worried about maybe a stress fracture of that big toe. I don't know. Whatever it is, I'm OVER it but I want it better before the DL1/2 in September!!

Good morning all. I hope everyone's doing well.
Harrison (my 11 year old) and I finished the 10k Saturday. He did it in 1:07, which, for his first race, we're all thrilled with. He is now on the hunt for his first HM, but I don't think he can do one until he's 13. He will actually need that much time to train, so it's all good! :lmao: I might try to find one right around his bday, which would be in November of 2012, so perfect time to race.

Meredith: Fantastic job on your PR and your placement in the race!!!!:cheer2: I did the same thing last year. Finished 2nd in my age category, but just left after the race and didn't even think about an extra acknowledgment until I got home. :guilty: I wish I'd stuck around. We were supposed to get an extra medal, and I wish I had it now.

Disneybound: I say go for it. I don't think you could hurt yourself too much if you just walk it, do you? Plus, if you feel some pain, just quit and get picked up. It doesn't have to be a big deal. Just listen to your body. :thumbsup2

Kim: I totally know how you feel about having not enough races. I am actually not doing any until next April, and I'm hating it. I'm just going to make my own fun races by myself on the trail, I guess. I'm starting back to college in a month and then, the race I'm doing in April is actually 44 miles, so I'll be busy building up that mileage, but I wish I had a race this summer and fall. Oh well.

Shannon: I've been reading your pre trip report. Very fun. It sounds like you are going to have a great trip! :thumbsup2

Lullabee: Great job on the PR! That is a major improvement. :cheer2:Sorry the audition didn't go well. I must have missed the post about what you were auditioning for (been a little mia lately). :rolleyes1

I'm heading out for a 4 miler today. I have no training plan right now, so just trying to get in 5 days a week with one longer run (8-10 miles). I figure that will keep my base up enough for the day I do start training. No major pains right now which is good. :thumbsup2

Weather is getting hot here already! 8k training is underway and I'm sticking to my plan so far. I don't have a good track record with that so we'll see how it goes. Volunteering for Expedition Everest Challenge on Saturday, then Danskin Triathlon Sunday. I know its not the same as running, but still fun to be out there. Plus, since it Mothers Day I convinced my momma to do it with me! I guess its not the best present to make her wake up at 3am, but I'm excited!

DisneyBound: You can totally do the half! As long as adrenaline or ego don't bump up your pace then injury shouldn't be an issue. You'll probably be pretty sore the day after, but totally worth it for some double bling! Good luck!

Meredith: Congrats on the award! :cheer2: I stayed for the awards at the last race just because they were starting just after I crossed the finish line. No awards of course, but my guy and I both got raffle prizes! I'm thinking I might need to start staying for those on smaller races at least!

Tandy: Super cute that you guys got to run together! I was auditioning for disney entertainment department just for fun. I'm underemployed at the moment, so I can make ends meet but it would be nice to put all these interviews behind me already!

Hey everyone, whats up :). Haven't been on in a while. So it appears the move to texas is on :). Probably early fall :). So looks like I might be in the crowd of having to get a hotel for Marine Corps Marathon and maybe even DC Tri. But on the upside hey there could be some fun things in Texas. And I'll be able to actually get some good long runs in in the winter :).

Yay Matt! The Texas move sounds like a fun change. It'll definitely be nicer in the winters. The summers...maybe not. You get used to the higher heat and humidity eventually. ;)

Things are going OK here. I'm still dealing with my sore foot. I got some new inserts to try and did a little over 4 miles this morning (REALLY slowly) and now the test will be how it feels in an hour or two. We shall see!

I hope everyone is having a great Mother's Day!

Meredith: Take it easy on that foot. I hope it's still feeling okay later today.

Matt: I lived in Texas for awhile as a child, and visit often (Grandma and aunt still live there). It's got pluses and minuses. I would love to have their easy winters, but it's already been 100 plus where my grandmother lives, and there's the whole wildfire/drought thing going on. Where in Texas were you guys moving?

Lullabee: How was Expedition Everest? You know it's funny, volunteering for a race would be my idea of a great mother's day, but not everyone's, I guess. Have a great day with your mom today.

I think I've decided to definitely do the 44 miler next April. In my planning, I've printed out a 16 week training plan, but need to get my base mileage up before that starts. I have plenty of time, of course. ;) I got a 12 mile run in Friday, which is my longest run since Goofy this January. Felt great. I did decide to take an ice bath afterwards, just in case I was feeling bad. Since I had no pain at all, I guess it worked, huh?
We're getting ready to head out to Mother's Day champagne brunch! My last meal before I go back to eating clean tomorrow. I'm going to give it another month, and try to get these last few pounds off. I am within 4 pounds of my dream weight, and have just stalled out. Of course, going to brunch buffet isn't getting me any closer, is it?;)

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms.

Meredith, just had to drop by and say, way to go with your 4 miles :thumbsup2 and hope you're feeling good.

Be careful and don't over do it.

Very nice of you to volunteer for races, especially on Mothers day :flower3:

It is getting hot here and then fluctuating back and forth, so I can't seem to find a good time of day/outfit to wear some days!

Oh good, I am not the only crazy person who has signed up for 1/2 that they aren't trained for :rotfl: I am doing one in Williamsburg in 2 weeks and I have been running a few times a month since Jan as well...oopsie!!

Matt, where in Texas?

I'm totally with you. Signed up for the Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredericksburgh on May 15th... training was going really well until I got laid off on April 15th and I haven't been doing nearly as well as I should have been! I've at least gotten most of my weekend long runs in, but sorely neglecting the twice weeklies.

Oh well.

Btw, I started my new job today. 20% more than my old job, and so far I like it. Tomorrow I fly to Atlanta for training.

BUT I am signed up for a 1/2 next weekend..

So did you run yesterday? How'd it go? I hope well!

Good morning all. I hope everyone's doing well.
Harrison (my 11 year old) and I finished the 10k Saturday. He did it in 1:07, which, for his first race, we're all thrilled with.

Wow! Your son did great!!:cheer2: I can't believe you're going to do a 44 miler. That is so cool.

Congrats on your new job and new raise! :goodvibes

Hope all the mothers had a great day yesterday!

Not much going on here. Ran some hills yesterday for my race Sunday. I have a feeling it's going to be an absolute zoo. Crowded, but fun. I'm kinda worried about all the people at the start though, we'll have to see. Maybe showers on Sunday, so if it's not too downpour, it'll be great weather.

Hey everyone, sorry I've been MIA. How's everyone been doing, enjoying the start of summer?

HockeyKat - hows the new job working out?

I'm down in Houston TX right now, looking @ houses etc. Maybe have some pictures later today. :) Probably going to run this evening, have to take care of some work stuff first thing, and I doubt a midday run in Houston TX is a bright idea. Although I've seen people in jeans in 90 degrees. Crazy I tell you.

Oh so funny story - i went for a 40 mile bike this weekend, didnt even think to put on sunscreen. My garmin left this huge white splotch on my left arm. Very entertaining.

Hello group people! :flower3: Slow-ish month for everyone? Or too busy to be on here much?

8k I had on Monday went great! Was going for no walking and secretly hoping for under an hour.. Managed in 58:01! I had not run in almost 2 weeks because of a nasty cold so I didn't have much hope but I was able to do it. Onward to the 10k!

Everest was fun as usual. I got bag check which is quite stressful to be honest. You would not believe how much stuff people check for a 5k! Had one bag with just a comb and a quarter! Why would you stand in line for that? Got to ride a few rides before heading out for a quick nap. Wasn't thrilled when the alarm went off an hour later, but had a great time volunteering with my mom for the tri. Body marking is fun and Grand Floridian Cafe was a nice treat.

Now that they've seen that its not just super athletic types out there, I'm trying to convince my family to make a tri relay team. Would be a fun way to get fit together, but they're not sold yet. Most of the local ones all have the swim in a lake where a triathlete was attacked by an 11 foot gator last year so thats the convenient excuse at the moment.

Lullabee: How was Expedition Everest? You know it's funny, volunteering for a race would be my idea of a great mother's day, but not everyone's, I guess. Have a great day with your mom today.

Not to worry, I'm sure it will just be all out hot soon! :sunny:

Hope the move is going well for you. Definitely better winter running weather, but if its anything like Florida then there are absolutely no races longer than 5k from June to August. Hot weather and tri season I suppose.. Hope you find somewhere nice to live!

Hey team. How's everyone doing? We seem to all be pretty busy right now. :)

Matt: How's the house hunting going? Yeah, running midday in Houston in the summer probably isn't a good idea. :thumbsup2

Kim: How did the race go? Was it as crowded as you thought?

HockeyKat: How's the new job and how was your half?

Shannon: How was your Williamsburg race? Did your lack of training hurt you?

My running has been pretty good. I've been working on speed and taking it easy on distance. Today, I got a 4 mile run in in 30 minutes flat with 80% humidity! Feeling pretty darn good about that time. I reached my goal weight, so I guess I've been doing well with the eating (well, up until recently). I think it's easier for me to lose weight when I'm not training for a race. This is my last weekend before I start back to college. I don't know why, at the age of 41, I think I can do this. I will be the only grey haired student, more than likely. The scariest thing is that I could be older than most of the professors!

Congrats on the 8K, especially right after a cold too!!

The race was insane crowded, I think 54,000 ended up running, but a lot of fun. Lots of costumes behind me, and thankfully no naked people, at least that I saw. But after a few miles and people sneaking in alcohol...:rotfl:

Yea Goal Weight!!:yay: That's awesome. Good luck in school next week.

Popping down to San Diego for the race this weekend, nice and short. It should be fun, see some friends, run the race and eat some goooood mexican food. More excited for the city than the race, but I think that's b/c the DL 1/2 is getting closer now, and I still have 2 more 1/2s before that one.

I am sure you will do awesome! Just think how much more you will care than most of the students.

Great job on the goal weight! It's been so long since I have seen mine... I am more like in the fat-suit phase.

New job is boring but okay.

The race went very well, all things considering. I finished about 27 min faster than the Princess in Feb, so I was pleased.

It was hot and humid, and geebus is the last 10-12 miles of that race a killer! It climbed over 300 ft between 10 and 11.5. We saw a woman at the top being taken away in an ambulance.

It was an extremely well supported race, even for back of the packers. Marines everywhere (well, Marine Corps Half, duh), and super-respectful and nice. Lots of water stops, and even for my friend that finished 10 min or so before the sweepers (in about 3:45), the marines at the finish line were out in full force, high fived him before the finish line, and were all still there to put the medal around his neck.

Also, during that half, my friend who is a pace group leader for the (official) Galloway training group that I train with... talked me into joining her. So, now I am a pace group leader for the 13 min mile group. The Raleigh group has over 450 members, with 40-50 in the 13s alone, so there are 2-5 leaders per group. Best part about it is the membership fee is waived. :)

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Awesome time on the 8k!! Glad to hear how well it went and that Everest/volunteering was fun for the tri! I am sure it would be amazing to do a tri, but I can't swim very well! You should do it and I can live through you :rotfl:

Oh and it has been HOT here all last week around 95+ every day...hopefully it will cool down some

 Congrats for beng at goal weight, that is awesome! You will do great at school...a majority of people I work with who are your age are actually going to school currently, I think its great :goodvibes

My Williamsburg race was horrible and great all together. I think I have my running motivation back finally...I am at my heaviest weight currently and I need to do something about that. I really felt the extra weight when running and my lack of training left my body hurting after I finished the race :headache: Poor DBF had to literally help me take my shoes off after I finished my body was so sore...but I learned my lesson. I finished, I didn't finish last, and I beat my first half marathon time (Wine and Dine half) by 4 minutes :goodvibes

Shannon, congrats on your PR!

I am SO with you on weight. I know it's going to be so hard to get faster and/or do a full being at this weight. I am about 6 lbs off my heaviest adult weight, and about 70 lbs overweight.

I really need to get my butt in gear. Mr Kat and I are putting a big easy-set pool up next weekend and I am hoping that I spend a lot more time in it and less time on the couch wanting to eat and/or eating. Assuming our HOA doesn't make us take it down. :)

Hey everyone, house hunting went well. Having a house built in Sienna Plantation about 15-20 minutes from Houston.

Ran a 15K this weekend, placed 15th overall, number 3 in my age group. One of my best finishes ever, the race wasnt particularly fast, but it was a very fun race. I knew a lot of the volunteers - so that was fun encouragement, and it involved running along some nice shaded paths around a lake.
