Ahh nice, yea running through Dupont was fun, 8am I was probably already through. But not 100% sure about that. how did you like DC?

No running this past week. :sad2: Don't know why, I just couldn't get up and get out there. Oh well, it happens to everyone. So this weekend got the 13 again. So we'll have to see how that goes. Signed up for another race this morning. The Giants are doing their annual plate to plate race and they added a 10k the weekend before the DL 1/2. It's a nice race, the weather is always beautiful and how can you resist being able to run on the field?

It was a lot of fun! Cold that weekend, but really pretty with the cherry blossoms. I grew up in Massachusetts and went to college in South Carolina, I moved to Richmond, VA a few years ago and have been trying to get up to DC whenever possible, because there is so much to see!!

I ran the Ukrops Monument 10k yesterday here in Richmond...me and around 41,000 other runners/walkers. It was such a great day for it and our local basketball team (VCU) was playing in the final four (Though they lost :sad2:) so there was a lot of city pride that I got caught up in even though I am not from here originally...I only beat my time from last year by a minute and really let the mental game get to me...does anyone have tips for when you psych yourself out during a race?!? Maybe something to help me get back on track during the race?

Nice, yea I really like DC. Its a great city, and over the last few years really added some very nice athletic events. If you're up for a marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon is an awesome race. There are several smaller races like the Army 10miler, etc that are also really fun.

I overdid it yesterday with a long run and then a really long bike, so kinda out of it today.

Hey Everyone!! Hope everybody's week went well. Got 10 in yesterday, broke in new shoes so that was good. My other ones were so old. This morning I took the pups jogging at the park, only about a mile or so. It's so funny, the lab just plods along, she's 10 1/2, but as soon as she sees the ducks.... it's an all out run! :rotfl:

I have to start doing some major training on hills over th next couple of weeks. I was looking online for the grade of the Hayes Street Hill in the Bay to Breakers race next month. I knew it was bad, but didn't know it was that bad. An article said that the overall grade is 5.5, but a block stretch is at 11.5! :scared1::scared1: No wonder they give out prize money to the 1st runner up the hill. Don't worry though, Ive got all the Kenyan runners beat!! :rotfl2:

Still trying to decide on what to do about the Nike race. I keep going back and forth whether or not to do the lotto. Hopefully NYC will announce entrants by next Friday and make the decision for me.

Other than that, not much going on here. Gotta start packing for Boston and making the posters soon. I'm so excited! Can't believe it's already here.

Got 7 in this morning, had to go out really early, b/c I was bad last night and didn't finish packing. Fly to Boston tonight!! I'm so excited, I can't wait!! I get to go to sleep in San Jose on the plane and when I wake up, I'm there. Boylston Street is going to be so much fun on Monday!!

Have a good weekend everyone.

Hello Everyone.. its me! stranger Leigh! :lmao: I swear I feel like I haven't been on here forever!! or ran for that matter :headache::rolleyes1 I haven't ran in a month! come on guys.. yell at me.. call me a loser.. do something for me to get my butt back out on the road!!!! Kat, I'm so sorry about the job!

I haven't done anything since my 5k last weekend and I'm still nursing a sore foot, among other things. I'm hoping to get a few miles in this weekend, but we'll see.

WHEW! That's a lot of participants! ;)

Hey everyone, it has been FOREVER since I have been on this thread!! I slacked big time after the Wine and Dine last year and joined a training team for a 10k I am doing in just a couple weeks, that is going great so far!!

After talking over text with someone I met via DISboards and met up with at the Wine&Dine, I have set some goals for this year...she has motivated me to try some new races and set a lofty goal for both of doing our first full marathons

April 2nd - Ukrops Monument Ave 10k in Richmond, VA
May 22nd - Run for the dream 1/2 marathon in Williamsburg, VA
Nov 12th - Richmond half marathon
Jan 2012 - Disney Marathon!!! EEK :scared1:

I am very excited to have some great goals set and will be hopefully joining another training team after my 10k ends :thumbsup2

Hmmm. I wonder who that is? lol!
It's been great sharing motivation & I can't wait for a great year of text-to-text training!

Thanks Meredith!!

Actually, I have some really good news. I have been interviewing all week and I got two job offers today, both around what I was making before. I got 8 weeks severance, so I may actually come out ahead!

I finally got a run in tonight with a friend... took about a week off with all of the craziness around job loss and job search! It actually felt really good.

Glad to see the job search is going well :). What field are you in?

I havent been running as much lately with the whole rowing thing starting up again, but hope to be back on the wagon soon. I did like 14 last sunday, maybe 6 wednesday, hoping to get some good runs in today-monday.

I am in software (Software Developer/Programmer), and have been for about 14 years. I have been mostly looking for senior/lead positions local to this area of NC. One offer is long-term contract, the other is perm. I am still waiting to finish up 2nd interviews with three others before making a decision.

Evidently the market here is good right now! The agencies are telling me unemployment for software here is under 3% right now.

14 is not much!! 14 is a lot for me...

Auditions were ok, but I was the wrong height for their needs at the moment. :sad2: I cheered myself up with a bit of pin trading and dinner so the drive out there wasn't all a loss.

In better news my half went well and I had a new PR by 13 minutes! :yay: I had never run real hills before and while the uphill parts suck, the downhill is fast! I was so excited I wanted so sign up for another race right away, but there is nothing longer than 10k until the fall so I guess it'll be shorter races for a while.

No yelling here! Sometimes your body needs a break.. Just think of how great you'll feel when you get back to it! As for Florida, be careful what you wish for. It was in the 90s here last weekend. :sunny:

 I thought disney races were crowded.. That sounds crazy!

Congrats on the job! Interviewing can be brutal. Send some of those good vibes my way please!

Hi everyone. Once again, I haven't been on here in forever. There is no way I can get completely caught up on all that I've missed. I have kept up my running. My 11 year old son and I are running a 10k Saturday, and it's the first short race I've ever run. I would be going for a win if I weren't running with my son. My neighbor won the women's event last year, and I train at a faster pace than she does.;) (I never thought I'd be able to say that.) But, it's my little boy's first race and, if he finishes it, I'll be thrilled. :lovestruc He is just not a runner. But, he's doing it for me.

HockeyKat: Congrats on all the offers! Makes getting laid off tolerable, kind of.

Disneybound: I am not a FB kind of person, sorry. I know I miss out on a lot, but, I've just never gotten an account.

How's everyone else doing with their training?

anyone here on facebook?
If you are.. friend me.. I'm on there often.. maybe too often :lmao:

https://www.facebook.com/leigh.rosica

I will add you later today...I am always on there :rotfl:

I am training for the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon in Fredericksburg on May 15th.

However, I got laid off today. Hoping I get at job in time to justify the gas and hotel costs...

Sorry to hear about the lay off...but so glad to hear how well the process of finding something new has gone!!

Hmmm. I wonder who that is? lol!
It's been great sharing motivation & I can't wait for a great year of text-to-text training!

Hmmm...now who could I have been talking about :confused3 I am so glad we got to meet up during the Wine and Dine half...now move to Richmond so we can train for the full together :rotfl: I am nervous about the Williamsburg half in a few weeks, but excited to see ya!

In better news my half went well and I had a new PR by 13 minutes!

 I thought disney races were crowded.. That sounds crazy!

Congrats on an awesome PR!!!! :thumbsup2

Yeah that 10k I did keeps growing every year, but for some reason, somehow they really pull it together well! You would be amazed how the race went off without a hitch with over 40,000 people participating, its awesome!

Hello everyone!

Congrats on the job offers Kat!

Not much here. Boston was awesome as always, got to visit my sister and yet another new apartment for her, and watch my dad run. 5K was a lot of fun too. Really windy and cold before hand, everyone was near buildings trying to get some protection and then there was a fire at the bagel shop literally right on the other side of the start line, but it was over before the race started.

Other than that, starting to gear up for San Diego, got 16 this weekend. It's going to be a warm day, so I'm getting out really early. Sadly though, no New York and no Nike, so now between the DL 1/2 Labor Day and Honolulu mid-Dec., I've got nothing planned. So I'll have to start looking around at some options. We'll see, maybe I'll just train for Honolulu with no prep races.

Hope everyone's doing well.
