My dr. won't let me even do any water exercises right now-- but I'm hoping she'll let me start at the beginning of December! I've also heard running in the water will help correct any weird form habits you've developed.

AWWW bummer...Im so sorry to hear that...I know it is very frustrating!! Maybe I need to get back in the water :rotfl: my hips were hurting after the half marathon at disney...I heard thats due to bad form

Its frustrating, but great to follow doctors orders, because i know of many people who ignore and end up reinjuring - usually worse than the initial time

I finished my 1st marathon this morning and am still alive tonight! The weather was perfect, overcast and light rain/sprinkle until Mile 21/22 when it started to rain. The nice thing was that they brought the mylar blankets down from the finish line to Mile 24 when you ran along the Great Highway, which borders the ocean and the wind began to pick up a little. The sad part was that when I crossed the finish line, they ran out of the Tiffany necklaces!! They even resorted to giving out necklaces from last year and ran out of those as well. I was so bummed!! I have to email them tomorrow to see if they are going to make more and send out, I hope so. The course was a lot more hilly than I thought it would be, I knew about the 1st half, but the 2nd half was hilly as well. Steeper than I thought. But I finished and am somewhat walking around now so that's good.

Hope everyone has a great week!! :goodvibes

Congrats Kim!!!!! :thumbsup2:banana::thumbsup2:banana::thumbsup2:banana: That is awesome!

What do you all do when you go away on vacation? We will be going to Disney Nov 5-13 (a Friday to a Saturday) and I am suppose to run 6.5 miles that first weekend which I KNOW I won't be getting around to.. I will try to get in a few days of at least 3 miles while we are there, but I can't expect the kids to wait around the first day there so I can run 6.5 miles.. I planned on just repeating that week when I get home..
How many of you actually get in your miles while on vacation?

Kim: Congratulations! What an accomplishment!
And, thanks for clarifying the negative splits for me. It's embarrassing sometimes how little I actually know about running considering how much of it I do.

Disneybound: Yes, I always get my miles in while at WDW. I am just too structured not to. Of course, I get up at 5:30 or 6 to make it work. God forbid my family have to wait for me to run! ;)

Mamacrush: I'm so sorry to hear that bad news. :guilty: Just do what the doc says and heal, so you can get back out there!:thumbsup2

Princessfionasmom: Great job on your 6 miles! Every time I add a mile, I feel like I've accomplished so much! :thumbsup2

Matt: Wow, 20 miles! I'm mostly jealous of your time. I'm running in the 7s also, but the very top of the 7s. Like, 7:30-7:45 average. And, my miles aren't up that high yet.

I ran my first ever 14 miler Saturday. I'm right on course with my training and my calves have stopped hurting! :cool1: I've got an 18 coming up this Saturday and can't wait. I am pumped up right now and feeling really good. I have been running my short runs close to 7:30 and my long runs around 7:45, but I think it's time to slow down those longer ones. I'm going to burn myself out. Plus, I'm only going for speed in the half, and just wanting to finish the full. So, now that I know I can run fast for 14, I'm set.

Leigh, I know it's a family vacation, but can I come? I'm so jealous!! I was thinking about going down to DL this weekend, but w/ the Mickey Halloween thing it's going to be crowded. I try to run on vacation. I don't go very often, most of the time they're long race weekends, and my longer vacations are usually in Boston visting my sister. When I'm there I run, usually what's scheduled or a little bit longer b/c it's Boston, a total running city and I love that place. If you're looking for places to run in WDW, you could play around w/ this website: www.usatf.org If you click on running routes, they might have some people have saved around WDW and you can also click on create your own and play around w/ routes that way. And don't forget- with walking around WDW all day adds up miles too!!

Congrats on the 14!! You should have no problem w/ Goofy in January!!

So Day 2 report- I can kind of walk. Sitting and bending down is really hard though. I was going to wear a skirt today to avoid putting on pants, but it was too cold and I had to put on pants. If there was a video of me getting dressed this morning, it would have been hilarious. I rode my bike, very slowly, for about 5-10 minutes around the neighborhood this morning just to move some of the lactic acid out of my legs and move the muscles a bit. Surprisingly it helped a little. Didn't sleep though last night. My little dog woke me up around 12:45 so go outside, and I was absolutely starving. So I had some food and watched some random tv and finally feel asleep around 3:30-4:00. I think part of it was a combination of left over adrenaline and couldn't get comfortable so added to the lack from the night before, I am ready to get to bed soon.

On a much much happier note, I just got an email back from Nike, and when they finish redoing the necklaces, I get one in the mail. Now if I could only get a sexy fireman in a tux to deliver it to me.... :goodvibes:goodvibes

I also set up an tattoo appointment to commemorate my 1st Marathon on Friday after work. I'm so excited! I have a Japanese conchi on my lower right back and off the side of the top right there is a little ledge and I am going to get my running shoes dangling off the top. Underneath that I'm getting 26.2 and under that 2010. The race colors were hot neon pink and hot neon yellow-green. Since the yellow-green wouldn't really stand out, I am going with the pink. It's funny, b/c I am a complete non-pink girl. But it's my 1st and I'm going w/ it.

So we'll see how the legs are tomorrow morning, if they're good maybe 3 or 4, if not, then the gym with a light bike with some upper body weights.

Leigh- I forgot to ask, do you get to go to any games when you're down there or is Gainsville too far away?

Unfortunately, that's one of the things I was not happy about with the race. I'm guestimating somewhere between 5:45 and 5:55 based on a clock that was still up at Mile 25. I was hoping for under 5:30, but with San Francisco being so hilly, I wasn't expecting it, and I'm really happy with my time. What happened is that the website said that you have to complete the course in 6:30. However, the started to close the course down at 1:30pm when 6:30 was up, not accounting for the people who didn't cross the start line after 7am. By the time I crossed the finish line, the clocks were already down, and I didn't get an official time.

Tandy- I saw on the WDW Marathon website you changed your hotel to POFQ, that's where I'm staying!! And Leigh's staying at POR!

I think that's horrible that you can't even have an official race time for your first marathon! I had to have that printout for my half (especially because I came in 2nd in my division).

How great that we're all staying at Port Orleans! That will be so cool. Are you wearing any kind of WISH clothing, so I'll recognize you? :) We can all ride the bus together at dark 30! :lmao: My hubby and son won't be going to the half with me because I'll be done so early, and they aren't going to the full until the finish line, because it's going to take me so long. So, it'll be nice to have someone to talk to while we're all waiting around forever.

Hey everyone, just got back from Disney, went for food and wine, etc, let's see how bad my trainings been effected by those extra pounds. MCM is oct 31.

We had a great trip. I didn't run any while there. I did get motivated by all the people running at OKW and DHS. It looks like everyone else was busy :goodvibes

Added Zumba classes into the mix last night.

Marty: Welcome back. Zumba is one of my favorite things to do. My hubby isn't really into dancing, so I get exercise and dancing combined! :thumbsup2

Matt: Welcome back. I'm sure you'll burn off those pounds in no time. You just might be a little slower for awhile. ;)

Went for an 8 mile run today. My time was a little bit off. I think I pulled something in zumba on Monday night. I have a pain on the outside of my glute. We do a lot of squatting, so maybe that's it. But, it definately slowed me down today. My biggest complaint was that apparently overnight, the city turned the water fountains off on the trail I use. They were working yesterday. I had to do 8 miles with no hydration! Not good. I am trying to train the way I will race. No water, no fuel belt, just me and my gels safety pinned to my shorts.

Sounds like a lot of excitement (and vacations!) going on in this group!

I'm completely exhausted from work and everyday life and have my first Half Marathon this weekend! Wow. That popped up fast! I'm doing the 5K on Saturday and the Half on Sunday, so I hope I don't die. :lmao: I got to see the 5K bling today and am excited that I decided to sign up for both.

I am SO ready to go! It'll be like a vacation for me! :lmao:

Good luck this weekend Meredith!! Hope you have great weather both days and great runs!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I HATE TAPERING!!!!. I want to go for a 16 mile run tomorrow just for my own sanity. I did 15 today. I know I shouldnt. Just want to point out my insanity.

Yes, Matt, that's insane! What is the race you are tapering for?

Good luck Meredith! Enjoy yourself and maybe you can post of pic of your new bling! :thumbsup2

I'm tapering for Marine Corps Marathon in DC. Got my bib number today - 2600 :).

I did it! I finished the 5K on Saturday and my very first Half today! I wasn't setting any speed records by any means, but my goals for walking the Half were simple. Finish upright, smiling, as close to 16 mpm as possible, and still walking under my own power. I did all of those things. *laugh* And I managed my best 5K walking time yet (even though I wasn't pushing since I was nervous about the half today).

I'm very pleased with myself right now. If only I could walk without hobbling. I'm SOOOO glad I took tomorrow off from work! :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words. For the next 3 weeks my dr. doesn't want me to do a thing-- no water work, elliptical-- nada. She'll re-evaluate the situation when I see her again after the 3 weeks are up. I'm trying to be upbeat about the whole thing, and for the most part I am. I just have to vanquish some personal demons to make sure I keep my eating in check during this down time! But I will definitely follow my drs directions to a T-- I really don't want to be down for long!
You have the best attitude.. I hope for a speedy recovery!!!

Come on over!! I'll bring a blow up bed for you! :thumbsup2

Leigh- I forgot to ask, do you get to go to any games when you're down there or is Gainsville too far away?
not really. :( G'ville is about 3 hours away.. I haven't been to a game in a few years. I took my older son to one about 3 years ago and lucky for him it wasn't a good game because he wanted to leave at half time. who does that!!! :headache: oh.. I guess maybe a 4 year old! :rotfl:

Tandy- I saw on the WDW Marathon website you changed your hotel to POFQ, that's where I'm staying!! And Leigh's staying at POR!

Yea!! met up!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: yes, but his slow is still way too fast for me!! :rotfl2:

I was out on the NCR trail today and there were tons of Army guys out there.. I wonder if they were training for it as well..

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 great job!!!

ok.. so I need some doctor advice.. I have been having some pain in my right hip/leg area... it doesn't feel like it the bone.. but maybe muscle.. It tolerable but its pretty tender. It started up last weekend on my long run.. went away after about a day.. I felt it during my shorter ones this week, but not so much.. and then again today after I ran 5 miles it started to hurt again.. Its still sore now, but its hard for me to tell if its my hip.. or just the muscle around it.. of course Dr. Google isn't helping because I could have a number of ailments according to that!
I guess I am just wondering if I should go see someone about it now or wait and see if it gets better.. and who the heck would I go see?
Thanks guys!

Zumba is the one thing I am missing terribly after canceling my gym membership :sad1:

You are nuts :rotfl:

I ran a 5k Saturday (first race after returning home from the Wine & Dine half) still waiting for my time to be posted, but I think its a minute better than my usual time (which is still slow :rotfl:) and Ill take it :thumbsup2
