Yes, I'm also seriously looking for a Garmin, I found the nike + to be ok as long as the terrain you calibrated it on was the terrain you were running on. It loves totally flat, but really its just counting your steps and hoping for the best.
I'm considering picking up a Garmin around the holidays, so if anyone has any recommendations, 405, 110, older ones etc I'd love to hear reviews and comparisons from people who actually use them.
I run in a large running group, for my long runs. We have 500 total in membership, with about 300-400 showing up for each Sat long run, broken down by pace group.
That being said, usually my pace group is in the 20-40 range, so I have been comparing others' "hardware" when it comes to Garmins, Nike+, etc.
Nike+ is usually the loser when it comes to accuracy. Most of the Garmins are pretty close together, and they are within .1-.4 on mileage and therefore just about as close on pace, as the RunKeeper app on my phone, which I hold in my hand. The RunKeeper app is much closer to the Garmin than the Nike+, which makes sense (GPS).
Most people like their Garmins, although I do hear complexity-type complaints, but that is likely what I call "Code 18" (happened 18 inches from the screen). If you are moderately tech-savvy this shouldn't be an issue.
If/when I get one, it will probably be a 110 or 210. I really like the lower profile sports-watch feeling, rather than the honking size of the 205, 305, 405, etc. However, the 110 doesn't have the heart monitor option.
