WISH Away the Pounds June Challenge -- Starting a Successful Summer!

First of all thanks to liesel and jill bur for stepping up for coaching!!

Pam, I hope you have a great weekend.

Lisa, it sounds like you had an exhausting week! What hard work - physically and mentally! I find that I do struggle a lot with seeing my parents age, I guess that is part of what people call midlife crises. You grow up being used to your parents being fit and then suddenly they are old and need your help. I hope that the week also brought back happy memories though! :goodvibes

QOTD:

Hmm, TWO things?? Well, the first one is that I am back to exercising regularly. At least that's the plan. I went for a run on Friday and am scheduled for another run today. The second thing is that I am back to tracking my food. And with that comes at least a certain amount of meal planning. So, both really basic things, but since they have been lacking in the past few weeks, I think I need to get the basics right first.

Good evening!

I'm the other Lisa and I'll be your coach this week. I'm a west coast late riser, so I will post the QOTDs the night before. I started doing these challenges almost 4 years ago. I was steadily losing weight up until our move from Colorado to Northern California almost 2 years ago. Now I need to get back on track. I was inspired my many of the people here to try running and have now completed 5 half marathons. WISH definitely gave me the courage to start! :goodvibes

We are halfway through June and I thought it might be fun to change things up a little this week. I am throwing in a mini challenge for each day. Its yours to complete or not, but if you do, please share!

QOTD June 16, 2014:
We have lots of "tips and tricks" threads all over the DIS, everything from FP+ to resorts to dining. If we had a healthy lifestyle "tips and tricks" thread, what would be your contribution?

Mini challenge: Plan your meals for the week. If you already did this you are ahead of the game!

My QOTD answer: I keep a list of all my favorite OP meals. If I get stuck on what to plan for dinner, I go to my list and pick something. It really helps me to see all my favorite OP foods written down. :thumbsup2

If there are any lurkers out there who would like to participate, please feel free to share! :thumbsup2

Morning all! Here is your QOTD for Saturday, June 14, 2014:
What are TWO THINGS you can do today or tomorrow to make this week ahead a successful one????

Well, I just finished making breakfasts for the week. So, that's one. Not sure what the other is. Oh, I can go actually put clothes in my gym bag tonight because I can be sure that I'll either forget or run out of time in the morning. That's something, I guess.

QOTD June 16, 2014:
We have lots of "tips and tricks" threads all over the DIS, everything from FP+ to resorts to dining. If we had a healthy lifestyle "tips and tricks" thread, what would be your contribution?

I'll steal from one of my answers to a previous QOTD... My tip is DRINK WATER! 1/2 ounce for every pound of body weight.

Mini challenge: Plan your meals for the week. If you already did this you are ahead of the game!

Well, breakfast is planned for the week... I'll see if I can come up with something for the rest.

------------------------------------------
Y'all are not going to believe this! I shared with y'all that I started using Plexus products and that was one month ago today. Since then, in ONE month, I have lost exactly 10 pounds. TEN! I have never lost this much, this fast or this easily. I'm definitely cutting calories but, I'm not even doing it on purpose. It's like I can better understand and respond to the signals traveling between my body and brain. I mean, I don't just KNOW the right option to choose but I actually FEEL like choosing it. Even with a good 30-40 more pounds to lose, I just can't get over how awesome I feel!:yay::yay::yay:

Anyway... I better go pack up those gym clothes and get to bed. Have a good night, everybody. :goodvibes

Morning all and happy Monday! Just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm still alive! It was a great weekend with TONS of fun adventures! My DD ROCKS! I can't wait to have a few minutes to share it all and post some pictures, but I'm off to work right now. TTYL.....................P

I fell of the wagon over the weekend...sort of.

We pretty much ate out all weekend. This tends to happen a lot on the weekend. I got on the scale this morning and it didn't like me of course. I do great all week and then the weekend comes and I have no will power to say no when my husband says "hey, let's get a pizza"....ugh!!!!

I plan on doing my best to stay strong this week. However, my husband and I are serving in our friends' wedding and we have rehearsal supper Wednesday and the wedding on Saturday.

A little bit down at the moment that I am not doing as well as I hoped. Things will turn around though starting right now!!!! Hope everyone has a great Monday.

Forgot to add....although the weight isn't moving much on the scale, my pants are a lot looser than they were two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I could barely breathe when they were buttoned and now I have to constantly pull them up because they are falling down.

My two things iare
1 - help make my husbands Father's Day special so we have a good week as a family, it's the first week of summer for our boys, and he's a stay at home dad.
2- Take stock of of grocery supplies and plan out the meals for the week, trying for healthy filling meals

Sounds like a great plan! :thumbsup2

I am a planner, but not a super strict planner. I plan dinners for the week ahead and grocery shop once a week. I am flexible, though and often flip things around based on schedules.

I do not plan exercise (except at the moment while my sister and I train to walk a half marathon next weekend). I used to plan exercise better when I went to a gym with classes. I definitely miss those. I should definitely make an exercise plan for the next few weeks!

Wow your race is here already, Jill! :cool2: Sounds like you are enjoying your summer so far although I think you are as busy as you are during the school year. ;)

First of all thanks to liesel and jill bur for stepping up for coaching!!

Excellent plan, Magdalene! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your kind words. :flower3: It is tough as our roles with our parents change. I definitely feel the pressure of the sandwich generation. Today my son is getting his driver's permit. :scared: For my midlife crisis I took up running -- sometimes I think it would have been better to get a convertible! :lmao:

Hi Lisa! :wave2: Thanks so much for coaching! :flower3:

Lisa and I are proof that you can make lifelong friends thanks to the DIS. We "met" right here on the WISH boards and did the first Tinkerbell Half together in 2012. We've seen each other at one Disney park or another every year since. :cool2:

My healthy tip is have a Plan B for a healthy meal on those days when life gets in the way of your original plan. ::yes::

I have two meals planned already so I will work on the rest of the week later today and report back.

Y'all are not going to believe this! I shared with y'all that I started using Plexus products and that was one month ago today. Since then, in ONE month, I have lost exactly 10 pounds. TEN! Week-ends happen to all of us. The imporant thing is to get right back on track. Maybe make a plan for week-ends so you feel like you are indulging with the family but still be able to stay on plan. I learned at WW that week-ends and holidays account for 1/3 of the year so those indulgences can really derail your progress. Sounds like you are losing inches -- yay for those NSVs! :yay:

I had a great loss last week and received my 10% and 25 pound award at WW yesterday! :cool1: I will definitely make my goal for the month for the first time in a long time. :yay:

Lisa said it so well. :thumbsup2 I used to completely fall off the wagon on the weekends. Now I try to balance out a very few planned indulgences with healthy food. I also do my long run over the weekend so I have to stick with a nutrition plan. That is wonderful that your clothes are fitting better!

Thanks for your kind words. :flower3: It is tough as our roles with our parents change. I definitely feel the pressure of the sandwich generation. I have made an awesome lifelong friend in Lisa. :goodvibes So many ladies gave me support and encouragement when I started this running journey. I wouldn't be here without them!

Lisa you deserve several of these :worship: for reaching your 10% goal. That's a very good tip to have a backup plan. :thumbsup2

I need to get to meal planning too. I usually do this over the weekend, but with the kids being out of school, my schedule needs some adjustment.

Quick fly-by... Went to the gym and did my 7-minute circuit training app (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/7-minute-workout-high-intensity/id675459297?mt=8) and 20 minutes on the elliptical and then had a Subway sandwich for lunch. (Haven't done that planning challenge that Lisa threw out... I should give that some thought this evening.)

So far, so good for a Monday. :thumbsup2 Have a great day, y'all! :goodvibes

Good job getting that exercise in! :thumbsup2

QOTD Tuesday June 17th: What is your favorite summer vacation destination?

Mini Challenge: 10 minutes of physical activity! We can all find time to move for 10 minutes, whether its in the morning before work, during a break, or in the evening. If you want to go for more, that's great!

Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!

Sorry that I did not get the weights updated yesterday evening. Will get it done tonight (so your afternoon)!!

QOTD for Monday:

My healthy lifestyle trick would be to never try to change your life around all at once. Try to focus on on to three things at a time, maybe one bigger change (like tracking your food) and two smaller ones (like trying to eat a piece of fruit or veggie with every breakfast). Once you are doing well with these, move on to the next things.

QOTD for Tuesday:

So many great places where I would love to spend a summer vacation! But since I don't have kids, I tend to avoid the typical summer vacations. If I had to choose one that I really would like to do today, I think it would be renting a cottage in Scandinavia at a lake for a few weeks and just relax, swim, boat, hike...

Morning all and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! Yes, today I turn the big 5-0! :thumbsup2 And I truly don't feel it! I feel better and look better than I did in my 30's (if I may say so myself ;) ).

I'm off to do some visiting (my Mom, daughter, and possibly MIL) and let these folks know how important they are to me!

I cannot predict food for today, but after splurging here and there for the last three days, I really need to keep the eating in check! But hey, you only turn 50 once, so if I splurge again today, so be it! But of COURSE, you can rest assured that I WILL be RIGHT BACK ON TRACK starting with breakfast tomorrow morning.

I am dashing off for now (gotta hang laundry before I leave.... time, tide, and dirty clothes wait for no man... or woman! :rotfl: ). TTYL...............P

Have a terrific Tuesday everyone!

The best summer vacation I had was on the Disney Magic in the Med last summer! :cool2: And, of course, I love Disneyland in the summer. But usually for summer vacation we go to Iowa -- which is actually more fun than it sounds. :lmao:

I planned the rest of the meals for the week and will work on the 10 minutes of activity which will probably be indoors since it is raining and in the 50's here today. Summer in Idaho! :rotfl:

Thanks for coaching, Lisa! :flower3: These mini-challenges are a great reminder that there is always something else that we can be doing to keep on plan, make things easier on ourselves, and it doesn't take much time at all! ::yes::

WISHing you a happy, happy birthday today, Pamela! :bday: party: party: party:

Of course you should splurge for your birthday, especially a milestone birthday. I have faith that you will be right back on track tomorrow. I think the 50's are fabulous -- this has been my best decade yet and I hope they are the same for you. :hippie:

Lisa, that was one amazing summer vacation!

QOTD: My family has done a few memorable summer road trips. Our first one 4 years ago was the biggest and still one of the best. From Colorado we visited Arches National Park in Utah, Las Vegas (a brief stop for some buffet and pool time), Disneyland (of course!), visiting with the grandparents and camping at the beach with them, the Grand Canyon, and Santa Fe. It was quite an adventure!

Weights are updated - we are very colourful this month!

Happiest of birthdays to you! And such a special one, at that! May this halfway point be the start to an even better 50 (or more!) years! :cake::cake:

QOTD Wednesday June 18th:
Its Woo Hoo Wednesday! Its time to share any healthy living moments you've had this past week. :cool1:

Mini Challenge: Its also Water Wednesday! Be sure to drink your water!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone!

Good Morning everyone!

We are going to have a public holiday tomorrow, so today already feels like Friday. But you still have two more days until weigh-in day! :goodvibes

QOTD:

I think my good thing I did this week was starting to go running again. Need to go for another run today. Hopefully will get it done. I often find it difficult in the evenings to motivate myself to go out again. The good thing is that since the days are so long right now (sundown is at 9:30pm or later), I can go for a late run in the daylight. Need to make use of that time of the year before days are getting shorter again in a few days!

mini-challenge: That's one I never struggle with!! I am really good about drinking lots and lots of water! :thumbsup2 And I just bought a new cartridge for my sodaclub machine here at work, so that makes drinking water at work more interesting again as well!

QOTD:

Healthy living in the past three days has been completely bypassing that plate of cake my sister left on my counter. Unwrapped it last night in a moment of weakness but then realized that it wasn't worth it and wrapped it back up. My sister looked at me like I was crazy yesterday when she came over and the cake was still there. Cake doesn't last long in our house.

I stepped on the scale this morning in an attempt to keep myself motivated and I am EXTREMELY happy with the progress. My friend who is also on this challenge with me said her pants are falling off and her stomach is getting smaller. We text each other pretty much with every meal and tell each other what we are eating to kind of help keep us motivated and accounted for.

I still have 59 lbs to go before my goal weight but I am so close to my goal for this month and there is still almost two weeks left. Motivated Motivated Motivated.

Just have to say thanks to this thread because even though I don't post often....life gets in the way....I still don't think I would be doing this great without reading all the great stuff here.

I think my biggest healthy change lately is portion control. Knowing I don't NEED that second helping of whatever it is I am eating. Long road ahead but it's great to know I am not on it alone.

Water Wednesday is no problem for me and I did manage to get 1 AP yesterday so I am counting that as my 10 minutes. ::yes::

Kudos to you for running after work, Magdalene! :thumbsup2 I really struggle with evening runs myself. I love the idea of the sodaclub machine at work. Enjoy your day off! :flower3:
