WISH Away the Pounds June Challenge -- Starting a Successful Summer!

QOTD Friday June 20th:
What is your vacation diet strategy? Do you stay on plan, plan for a few indulgences and then get right back on plan as soon as the vacation is over, or do you go completely off plan?

Haven't really thought about vacation eating yet. We leave August 31st for Disney. Hoping to be a good bit smaller by then. I won't restrict myself from having a few indulgences but I won't go crazy with it either.

Proud to say I have lost 3.4 lbs this week. That puts me at my goal of 5 lbs and I still have another week and a half to the month. Feels great to meet my goal with time to spare.

Tomorrow I am serving in my best friends wedding. I know from my own wedding, you don't have much time to eat anyway so I'm not really worried about over eating. Weekends are the worse for me so I am going to try my best to stay on track.

BTW, I found an ACTIVE job for the summer! I'll be working hard, moving furniture, mulch, etc here at the school! It pays the same as a day subbing and it is gong to burn calories!! WIN-WIN! I'll be buff and tanned by September! :) Plus DS can work with me (at a slightly lower pay, but still good for a teen). He isn't delighted with the idea, but I think it is great!

Kudos to you for finding a job that you and DS get to do together, Pamela! :cool2: And there is your exercise plan, too. ::yes::

I hate when I'm away from the thread for a few days. I miss so much and I only have time to skim thru to catch up.

I hope everyone is having a happy Thursday. Things are good here. DH and I are trying to figure out what we might like to do to "get away" for a bit. Maybe a all-out vacation and maybe just a day off work to hang out. Building the house really took a toll on DH because he was having to do all of the supervision that our general contractor should have been doing. Every little detail had to be monitored because, as we came to find out, we had gotten into business with a very inattentive contractor. A couple of the sub-contractors were outstanding but some were, apparently, just cheap and didn't give a hoot. Anyway, the point is, DH needs to disconnect from the house and all the not-quite-finished items that seem to keep cropping up. So... whether it's a weekend in San Antonio or heading up to the Winstar in Oklahoma... we could definitely use some time out of town.

Better get back to work. Hope y'all have a great day. :goodvibes

A week-end away sounds like just the ticket, Connie! ::yes:: It is hard to get that true vacation feeling when you are at home even when you don't have a long list of projects that need to be done.

It does sound like it is important for your DH to get AWAY from the house. If he is like me, he absolutely will NOT be able to relax while at home. There is no such thing as an "at home" vacation for me.... I just can't ignore things that need to be done! I think that is why I LOVE my Disney vacations.... they are my only TRUE vacations! Even on our family lake vacations, I'm still in charge of some shopping, cooking and plenty of dishes and cleaning! Maybe you could find a Groupon or something on Priceline and get a short-but-sweet trip away on the cheap?? .................P

Sounds like my lake vacations, too, Pamela. Cleaning, cooking and laundry just in a different venue and for more people. ;)

Good luck and have fun! I am slowly getting stuff organized for a possible sale this summer, too.

I usually use Pinterest and SkinnyTaste. I love trying new recipes so I'll have no problem with the mini challenge :)

Glad it was cooler for field day and glad you had fun!

Congrats on the job! I could totally see DS not being happy if I told him I signed him up for that :rotfl2:

Thanks for sharing! This look soooooo yummy!

A getaway sounds like just what you and DH need. It'll be a great mental break from the house!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Checking in quickly :)
Not much going on in my neck of the woods, so not too much to say. Don't tell DH that, though. He claims I never stop talking ;)
Have a great night and maybe next time I'm back I'll have more to share!
Jill
My DH doesn't hear half of what I say to him because he thinks I talk too much. :rotfl2:
It's kind of nice to have a little quiet time, Jill. That's what summer is all about. :beach: Plus you have your race on Sunday. Good luck and have a great time! :thumbsup2
Friday is weigh in day, so be sure to PM your weight (in the subject line) to Flossbolna. I can't wait to hear about everyone's progress.
QOTD Friday June 20th:
What is your vacation diet strategy? Do you stay on plan, plan for a few indulgences and then get right back on plan as soon as the vacation is over, or do you go completely off plan?
Mini Challenge: It's Friday! Time to indulge in a favorite stress relieving non food related activity. You've earned it!
I am a samer but I'm totally okay with that. I still have ten days to get that last pesky pound gone and meet my goal! :thumbsup2
My vacation diet strategy is to maintain and the secret to maintaining is lots and lots of movement. I also get right back on plan as soon as return so those vacation indulgences aren't continued. :goodvibes
The weather is finally nice today so I will hang out in the backyard for a bit today for my indulgence. :cool2:
Thanks for coaching this week, Lisa! :flower3: I loved the mini-challenges! :love:
On a vacation I USUALLY plan for a few indulgences and but stay on track otherwise. For example, during our family vacations, I don't do all the cooking and food planning, so if it is someone else's night to cook, I try to be sure to stay OP for my breakfast and lunch so that I can indulge at dinner. And unless the dessert is something I LOVE, I skip it. Just because it is vacation, doesn't mean I MUST eat dessert. Homemade cookies (my mom's lumberjacks) or a lemon meringue pie.... ALL DAY LONG!:love: But boxed brownie mix or store bought ice cream.... nothing special and I will skip it.
I also try to keep up some sort of exercise schedule while on vacation (other than a Disney vacation). I try to at least get in a run/walk 3-4 days during the week!
Tonight's non-food related activity? Not sure yet... I'll let you know!
***************************
MOrning all and HAPPY FRIDAY! My last official day of school for the year!! WOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it is DS's last day of finals as well, so I'm sure he will be a happy camper today!
Well, I braved it and got on the scale this morning to face the damage I did during all of the birthday shenanigans and I will say that I was pleasantly surprised! Sure, I gained.... but not nearly the amount I envisioned! Less than 2 pounds from last Saturday's weight! I'll take it considering my list of food offenses is extensive! Not one, but TWO reuben sandwiches with a side of sweet potato fries (Saturday and Tuesday), not one but TWO birthday cakes (cheesecake from DD on Saturday and white cake with lemon curd filling from my Mom on Sunday), a mocktail and two light beers on Saturday, a light beer on Sunday, and a softserve cone after my reuben on Tuesday. YIKES! It looks even worse now that I listed it all!!:eek:
Moving forward from all of that sugar is proving to be tough....my body is craving it! Thankfully it is fruit season, so that helps!
Off to pack my last school lunch of the year! DS doesn't need a lunch since he will be home by lunch time!...................P
Enjoy that last day of the school year, Pamela! :flower3:
Good luck to everyone on their weigh in!
Good morning. :)
I am happy to say that I am back on mfp and I logged everything yesterday and I am feeling good about it. I have a fb support group and I think, no I know, I have turned a corner.
A friend posted a video blog recently that really resonated with me and made a lot of sense. She has a very special needs child who is ~20 and my friend talked about 'stretching' and when things around you are changing and you aren't and how challenging that can be. And about changes in life in general. Your life can look awesome on paper but that does not mean you aren't dealing with some challenges. Made me really look at the past couple of years--since we became empty nesters. And the changes that happened that were good, bad and ones that we had no control over. Anyhow, I have been thinking about this for a week or so. Things have definitely not gone the way either Mike or I wanted them to over the last couple of years and we are both terribly frustrated and sad. So I cut back on my exercise and ate my way through the last two years.:goodvibes But I am done with that. :) Going to the gym this morning. Meeting with a real estate agent this weekend. If we are staying here then we are getting a house. And generally just going to try to be more involved in my life. We (I) have alienated ourselves from our friends and just really became very lonesome. So done with that. Motivated. Accepting all the 'stretching' that has happened whether I wanted it to or not. The great part about staying here is we can continue to travel a lot so we are ready to start planning some trips.
If anyone wants to watch the video blog or wants to be friends on mfp pm me and I will give you the link and/or my log in name. :)
QOTD Friday June 20th:
What is your vacation diet strategy? Do you stay on plan, plan for a few indulgences and then get right back on plan as soon as the vacation is over, or do you go completely off plan?
Um... Historically, vacation has been a free-for-all and I rarely bounce back very well when vacation is over. :headache:
If I went on vacation today, however, I think I would stick to decent choices. More "relaxed" choices but not too far off the path.
Mini Challenge: It's Friday! Time to indulge in a favorite stress relieving non food related activity. You've earned it!
I fully expect to plant something in my yard this weekend. Not sure what exactly. But something. Have to wait and see if the nurseries have anything on my landscape plan and, with any luck, on sale. :)
I am happy to say that I am back on mfp and I logged everything yesterday and I am feeling good about it. I have a fb support group and I think, no I know, I have turned a corner.
Good for you, Rose! I know that feeling and I'm happy for you.
(I don't know the circumstances that you were referring to in the rest of your post but, I'm happy for you that you're finding your way out of the sadness and loneliness that came with it. :hug:)
------------------------------------------------------
Happy Friday, everybody!
So, during the summer, my company offers "Flex Time". You have the option of working 9-hour days Monday-Thursday and, in exchange, getting every other Friday off (working 8-hours on the alternate Fridays). Personally, I choose not to participate and stick to my normal M-F 8-5 routine because it just works better for me. But, I still really enjoy Summer Flex it because the building is half-empty on Fridays and it's so quiet. :goodvibes
And, weigh-in day... I am down again this week! 0.8 pounds. And, honestly, that's kinda impressive for this week. I was fighting allergies and sinus issues this week and the decongestant I used made me... I don't know... cranky and scatterbrained and generally blah. And, the medicine counteracted some of the benefits of the supplements I've been using because the "blah" just really wanted to be fed junk food. So, my eating was not great. It wasn't terrible but it could certainly have been better. No more decongestant for me. I have now been introduced to the practice of the sinus rinse. It's weird and will take some getting-used-to but, now I can breathe without drugs. That's a win. And, any way you slice it, my weight is still down for the week and I'm quite pleased about that.
Okay... I should get to work now. It may be quiet around here but that doesn't mean there's any less to do. Y'all have a great day! :thumbsup2
You guys! I am SHOCKED and happy - down 3.4 this week! I checked again after my shower, and it was the same. I am so amazed. Not because I didn't make good choices - the work trip was good, and I really stuck to my plan (those are situations where I tend to go off the rails, so I was feeling good about that). But I've been stuck in the same spot for ages, with little losses and little gains, and I figured even a really on-plan week would still be just a small loss. So this feels great. Maybe I was really at a plateau, and it just cracked.
We're heading to Charlottesville this afternoon for a quick weekend trip, so now the key is to keep the momentum going! I have another weigh-in on Monday for another group I'm doing a challenge with, and my WW weigh-in is Tuesday...so hopefully I can handle a second trip on-plan this week.
Hope you all have lovely weekends!
I've been MIA this week.. just busy at work, hubs has had a stressful week at work, DS just finished up finals yesterday .. UGH.. TGIF!!!
QotD - vacations I tend to eat what I want - however we seem to only eat twice a day and I'm more active so I might gain a few or maintain.. then when I get back home I hop back up on the wagon..
Mini challenge - I hope the load of loam I ordered from the park is there so I can get some flower and start planting.. I also hope to see Maleficent this weekend
Happy late Birthday Pam!! It sounds like it was fantastic!!
Has anyone else tried the recipe importer on mfp yet? I used it for the first time today and it was pretty easy. Definitely will make tracking easier! :)
Thank you for the birthday wishes! Hope your loam arrives on time! Shoveling and moving that heavy stuff will be a great workout!
27 minutes left of my last day of subbing for the school year!! :dance3: There is my happy dance!!
I suppose there is the possibility of being called for the half day on Monday, but I seriously doubt it.
I am SO hungry right now! I did not pack enough food and definitely not enough protein in my salad. And we have to drive to the city to pick up DD's car from the shop (it wasn't ready yesterday.... I suppose them having it for two days means that the bill is twice as big....:eek: ). I am considering stopping at my favorite Mexican take-out spot for one of my favorite salads! But it seems crazy to buy a salad when I have a full bed of greens growing at home. We'll see. I will definitely be stopping at the market to buy a few necessities.
Gotta grab my class in 5 minutes and then will be counting down the end of the day! TTYL......................P
I have a similar vacation strategy. 2 pounds is pretty good with all of those treats! I know those two pounds will come off quickly. Congratulations on reaching the end of the school year and finding a summer job!
:cool1: for the loss while travelling, that's amazing! Enjoy your weekend!
Happy late Birthday Pam!! It sounds like it was fantastic!!
Enjoy the gardening!
I forgot to answer yesterday's QOTD. I am enjoying the "Cook This, Not That" series. They have some healthy alternatives to popular dishes, including comfort food. I enjoy making these for the family and they don't miss the extra calories at all! Of course the key to making these dishes work is portion control. :thumbsup2 Thanks to all those who shared!
DD8 and I finished her room makeover yesterday and we are very happy with the results. She is excited to get rid of some "little kid" toys and have everything better organized. Now to tackle DS12's room. I am not looking forward to that one!
I am a samer this week, but I know there is a good "woosh" coming in the next few days and I will hit my goal next week. :goodvibes Coaching was fun and if anyone wants to give it a try, I'd highly recommend it as a good motivator! I think there is still an opening for the next few days.
Nice to see you Lisa R. :) Thanks for coaching!
Connie--thank you for the nice thoughts Connie. :) It has not been good, but it is improving. Glad you are feeling better. Thinks are very quiet at my work in the summer too. I am hoping I get ahead on some projects. :)
Liz--Congrats on that loss and have fun in Charlottesville.
I've been MIA this week.. just busy at work, hubs has had a stressful week at work, DS just finished up finals yesterday .. UGH.. TGIF!!!
I was always so happy when my DS was done for the year! Have a good weekend.
Pamela--meant to say yesterday--very cool about the job. Hope the car repairs aren't too terrible. :)
****
Hope everyone has a great Saturday!
I have now tracked two days in a row...it's a streak! haha.
We are looking at houses today. Hopefully it will be a good experience.
I am happy to say that I am back on mfp and I logged everything yesterday and I am feeling good about it. I have a fb support group and I think, no I know, I have turned a corner.
:woohoo: for being back on track, Rose! :yay: I know that you will be feeling like yourself again soon. :flower3: Good luck looking at houses today.
Um... Historically, vacation has been a free-for-all and I rarely bounce back very well when vacation is over. :headache:
If I went on vacation today, however, I think I would stick to decent choices. More "relaxed" choices but not too far off the path.
I fully expect to plant something in my yard this weekend. Not sure what exactly. But something. Have to wait and see if the nurseries have anything on my landscape plan and, with any luck, on sale.
Good for you, Rose! I know that feeling and I'm happy for you.
(I don't know the circumstances that you were referring to in the rest of your post but, I'm happy for you that you're finding your way out of the sadness and loneliness that came with it. :hug:)
------------------------------------------------------
Happy Friday, everybody!
So, during the summer, my company offers "Flex Time". You have the option of working 9-hour days Monday-Thursday and, in exchange, getting every other Friday off (working 8-hours on the alternate Fridays). Personally, I choose not to participate and stick to my normal M-F 8-5 routine because it just works better for me. But, I still really enjoy Summer Flex it because the building is half-empty on Fridays and it's so quiet. :goodvibes
And, weigh-in day... I am down again this week! 0.8 pounds. And, honestly, that's kinda impressive for this week. I was fighting allergies and sinus issues this week and the decongestant I used made me... I don't know... cranky and scatterbrained and generally blah. And, the medicine counteracted some of the benefits of the supplements I've been using because the "blah" just really wanted to be fed junk food. So, my eating was not great. It wasn't terrible but it could certainly have been better. No more decongestant for me. I have now been introduced to the practice of the sinus rinse. It's weird and will take some getting-used-to but, now I can breathe without drugs. That's a win. And, any way you slice it, my weight is still down for the week and I'm quite pleased about that.
Okay... I should get to work now. It may be quiet around here but that doesn't mean there's any less to do. Y'all have a great day! :thumbsup2
Hope that you are feeling better today, Connie! :flower3: And you still pulled off a loss! :woohoo: Hope you find something fun to plant at the nursery today.
You guys! I am SHOCKED and happy - down 3.4 this week! I checked again after my shower, and it was the same. I am so amazed. Not because I didn't make good choices - the work trip was good, and I really stuck to my plan (those are situations where I tend to go off the rails, so I was feeling good about that). But I've been stuck in the same spot for ages, with little losses and little gains, and I figured even a really on-plan week would still be just a small loss. So this feels great. Maybe I was really at a plateau, and it just cracked.
We're heading to Charlottesville this afternoon for a quick weekend trip, so now the key is to keep the momentum going! I have another weigh-in on Monday for another group I'm doing a challenge with, and my WW weigh-in is Tuesday...so hopefully I can handle a second trip on-plan this week.
Hope you all have lovely weekends!
Fabulous loss, Liz! :cool2: You were really OP while you were travelling! And plateau busting to boot! :yay: Enjoy your week-end!
I've been MIA this week.. just busy at work, hubs has had a stressful week at work, DS just finished up finals yesterday .. UGH.. TGIF!!!
QotD - vacations I tend to eat what I want - however we seem to only eat twice a day and I'm more active so I might gain a few or maintain.. then when I get back home I hop back up on the wagon..
Mini challenge - I hope the load of loam I ordered from the park is there so I can get some flower and start planting.. I also hope to see Maleficent this weekend
Happy late Birthday Pam!! It sounds like it was fantastic!!
Michelle, sorry for the tough week at your house. :flower3: I hope you have a fabulous time planting all your flowers. :cool2: Be sure and let us know how you like the movie. :maleficen
Has anyone else tried the recipe importer on mfp yet? I used it for the first time today and it was pretty easy. Definitely will make tracking easier! :)
Sounds like something interesting to check out -- thanks! :thanks:
27 minutes left of my last day of subbing for the school year!! :dance3: There is my happy dance!!
I suppose there is the possibility of being called for the half day on Monday, but I seriously doubt it.
I am SO hungry right now! I did not pack enough food and definitely not enough protein in my salad. And we have to drive to the city to pick up DD's car from the shop (it wasn't ready yesterday.... I suppose them having it for two days means that the bill is twice as big....:eek: ). I am considering stopping at my favorite Mexican take-out spot for one of my favorite salads! But it seems crazy to buy a salad when I have a full bed of greens growing at home. We'll see. I will definitely be stopping at the market to buy a few necessities.
Gotta grab my class in 5 minutes and then will be counting down the end of the day! TTYL......................P
Pamela, hope the car bill wasn't too bad. :flower3: When will you and DS be starting your summer jobs? I agree with Lisa 2 pounds isn't too bad for a week full of treats. :thumbsup2
I forgot to answer yesterday's QOTD. I am enjoying the "Cook This, Not That" series. They have some healthy alternatives to popular dishes, including comfort food. I enjoy making these for the family and they don't miss the extra calories at all! Of course the key to making these dishes work is portion control. :thumbsup2 Thanks to all those who shared!
DD8 and I finished her room makeover yesterday and we are very happy with the results. She is excited to get rid of some "little kid" toys and have everything better organized. Now to tackle DS12's room. I am not looking forward to that one!
I am a samer this week, but I know there is a good "woosh" coming in the next few days and I will hit my goal next week. :goodvibes Coaching was fun and if anyone wants to give it a try, I'd highly recommend it as a good motivator! I think there is still an opening for the next few days.
Thanks for coaching this week, Lisa! :flower3: And for sharing the recipe. :cool2: Good luck at the garage sale this morning. Hope you make lots of money! :thumbsup2
This little article from sparkpeople.com popped up in my inbox this morning so I thought I would share and post a QOTD since we don't have a coach for the next few days. We can take turns posting a QOTD. :goodvibes
6 Things Successful Dieters Have in Common
People Who Lose the Weight Have These Core Beliefs
By Ellen G. Goldman, Health & Wellness Coach
I'm sure you have heard people say, "Losing weight is easy. Keeping it off is the hard part."
Well, I disagree with this statement. I think losing weight is hard, but keeping it off is even harder!
Permanent weight loss requires a lot of change. And for most, change is difficult. You have to change what and how much you eat. You have to change your activity and exercise habits. You might have to change your sleeping habits, daily schedule and shopping habits. That's a lot of change!
However, the most important changes you can make aren't about what you do, but rather how you think. If you don't change your mindset, there's an awfully good chance you won't change your body—and certainly not for the long term.
People who have reached weight-loss goals and kept off the pounds often experience mindset shifts. They think differently than they did before. Here are some common attitudes and beliefs that show up time and time again when talking with successful "losers." If you were to interview them, this is what you would hear.
1. I believe that I can do it. I am responsible for—and in control of—my destiny, and I am fully committed to getting there. I have a clear vision of how I want to live my life: healthy, vibrant, thin and active. I strongly believe in the possibility and the permanence of that vision, and I am confident that I am capable of achieving it. Exercise and eating healthy aren't things I do when it's convenient; they are what I have decided to do no matter what. I recognize my results are dependent on my own actions—not other people's or outside circumstances.
2. I am proactive rather than reactive. I think in advance about how I will eat and exercise during for upcoming day. If I know I need to go to the gym straight from work, I make sure my gym bag is packed and in my car. When I'm going to have a hectic day at work, I pack a healthy lunch from home. I look at restaurant menus online before getting there so I know the best choices beforehand, and that's what I order. I take time at the beginning of each week to plan my meals, figure out when I can get to the grocery store and schedule my exercise. And I always have a Plan B so I can stay on track in case something unexpected happens.
3. I am disciplined. Despite not always wanting to do what needs to be done, I do it anyway. There are plenty of times I don't feel like working out, or taking the time to prepare my meals. Whether it's exercise, skipping dessert, or cooking a healthy dinner rather than calling in for take-out, I do it. My mind is always focused on my vision. It's not about how I feel right now. It's about what I want for my future self.
4. I share my goals and plans. My friends and family are aware that taking good care of myself and keeping the weight off is a core value of mine. I stand up for myself without apology. Sometimes I'll miss happy hour with the gang to go to the gym, or request that we change the restaurant choice because I won't go to a buffet—I am not embarrassed or sorry for speaking up. I also know I don't need to go it alone. When I am feeling vulnerable, I ask for help.
5. I am resilient. When I stumble or fall down, I pick myself up and creatively figure out how to move on. Life throws curveballs all the time, but they aren't reasons to throw my healthy habits away. I know that soothing myself with food or TV won't solve my problems. I deal with the reality of the situation and creatively work toward overcoming adversity.
6. I have self-compassion. I'm only human and there are times when things don't go as well as I'd like. I just do the best I can. When I slip up, I look at it as one individual episode, not a pattern that will lead to disaster. A "lapse" does not mean collapse. I just get right back on track. I do not beat myself up if a few pounds creep back on. The scale does not define who I am. It doesn't make me good or bad. It only tells me whether or not I am on track to reach my goals. If I am not, I recalculate.
Sustained weight loss requires a new mindset. In order to be successful, you must resist looking in the mirror and still seeing the old you. Permanent success requires you to think and act like a thin person even before you reach your goal. If it initially feels awkward, remember the old adage, "Fake it 'til you make it." The more you behave and think like a successful dieter, the sooner you will be one. Being healthy and thin will become part of your identity. It's time to leave the old one behind.
Going for my first run in two weeks. That is always a fun one. :rolleyes1 BBL with my own answer.
I updated with the first batch of results and we have some wonderful colour changes!!
First congratulations to desiree71081 who is the first to reach WISH lime green!! :yay:
To one Lisa many thanks for being our coach over the last few days and to the other Lisa many thanks for stepping in with a QOTD in our coach free five days!!
As to answer the QOTD:
I am kind of torn with what is written in that article. While on the one hand, I do think that these things are helpful for dieting, I also think they are not me and I don't want to be that person. Or at least not totally. But then there are some things that I am actually doing. Like letting the people around me know that I am trying to watch what I eat. I often get very much support from friends for it and they understand.
I also try to be disciplined. I think that is an absolute necessity. If you want to lose weight you cannot eat what you want. But I will also never be someone who could follow a vegan lifestyle. There are too many things that I love to eat and drink. I just try to do everything in moderation. For example I love cheeses. And over the last few days I have been fantasising about good cheese. I hate low fat cheese as I feel it is also low in taste. So today I got up late anyway, so I pooled my breakfast and lunch points, bought a delicious piece of goat blue cheese and had it for lunch with a salad and some bread and had a peach for dessert. It was a splurge, but I could fit it into my day. And now I feel like I can go for a few weeks without cheese again. :goodvibes
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Going for my first run in two weeks. That is always a fun one. :rolleyes1 BBL with my own answer.
Not bragging here, for sure, but since I have been fairly successful with my weight loss, I think I can comment here and say that this is pretty much ALL TRUE! The things I still struggle with are.... #4.... I don't share much, other than with you folks... but even THAT helps me. And #6.... self-compassion.... I still struggle to FORGIVE myself after a splurge (either planned and intention or just a plain old "fall-off-the-wagon" moment). I still have this FEAR that one day of overeating (or most recently, 4 days) and I will wake up being my old 90 pound overweight self! TRULY! I have to constantly remind myself that a day or two of indulging will NOT make me gain it all back and that a good enjoyable life is all about BALANCE.... but then also remember that it needs to be JUST a day or two.... not a week or two....or three.
To one Lisa many thanks for being our coach over the last few days and to the other Lisa many thanks for stepping in with a QOTD in our coach free five days!!
I second that!!:thumbsup2
Happy Saturday all! Staying busy here with :laundy: laundry (does it EVER end??) and such.
I am heading to the market in a bit, so I'm doing my menu planning and shopping list now. Definitely planning for cauliflower fried rice again and probably will try the new recipe that Lisa posted with the grilled pineapple!
Speaking of new recipes.... anyone got any new SALAD DRESSING recipes to share? I've been making my own 0 Point dressing, but it is getting boring.
TTYL..................P
Will dig out some salad dressings for you. But they definitely are never 0 point. I think salad dressings are a great way to get healthy fats into your system! One of my two fatty points that I am supposed to have on WW usually goes for a teaspoon of EVO on a salad.
To be honest, mostly I just add some good vinegar, some salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar to one teaspoon of EVO (or even better: pumpkin seed oil) and that's it... But I do have some recipes.
QOTD Saturday, June 21, 2014 and Sunday, June 22, 2014: Do you think these beliefs will help you be successful? Is there another trait not listed that you feel is essential?
I think I have most of these traits. I do need to do better with being proactive and having discipline. My discipline can go out the window especially if I'm tired or had a stressful day. I can use some improvement in the proactive area as I still need to work on work lunches and some other areas but it is much better.:goodvibes
Your lunch sounds delicious, Magdalene!
I'm not a fan of low fat stuff -- it doesn't taste as good or feel as satisfying to me. :confused3 That is the great thing about WW IMHO -- you can eat anything you want as long as you have the points. :goodvibes
How did you like the chicken last night, Pamela? We enjoyed it although I think that you could leave out the avocado and not miss a thing. Also, I would double the rub next time. It was out to 12 points when I entered the nutrition info in my WW calculator.
A lot of folks rave about Walden's dressings at my meetings. They are zero points but also rather expensive.
Will dig out some salad dressings for you. But they definitely are never 0 point. I think salad dressings are a great way to get healthy fats into your system! One of my two fatty points that I am supposed to have on WW usually goes for a teaspoon of EVO on a salad.
I'm a vinagrette person, too. I don't mind having a couple of points for my dressing. I've been using pomegranate vinegar with olive oil and it is very tasty. Sea salt is an excellent addition to dressing. ::yes::
Have a great Sunday all! :goodvibes
Hey there! Where is everyone? Out enjoying JUNE, I hope!!
Today I am heading out to my birthday gift day with DH! He bought me tickets to see Derek Hough's (from DWTS) show "Move Live on Tour" at Mohegan Sun Casino in southern CT. But of course, it can't be a simple "date day" because we need to return DD's car to her, so we will be driving to her school first and then heading into CT for the show, so another long day of driving.
I need to get moving because I've got some stuff to do before I get showered and ready for the day. Green smoothie for breakfast anyone? Mine is almond milk, baby spinach, half a banana, a kiwi, tablespoon of ground flax, splash of orange juice and a dash of cinnamon. Very sweet and yummy.... and GREEN!
Have a MARVELOUS Sunday everyone!.............P
I think I have most of these traits. I do need to do better with being proactive and having discipline. My discipline can go out the window especially if I'm tired or had a stressful day. Being tired makes a WRECKof my self-discipline as well. :headache:
Didn't end up trying it. My men need to be better about putting stuff on the calendar (especially since my menopause brain has ZERO memory). Literally as I was hitting "post" and shouting to DS that I was heading to the market, he reminded me that he had movie plans that evening with friends and would need a ride...:sad2: So I ended up dashing to the market and home again, putting away the groceries, making a quick dinner for DH, and dashing out again to take DS to the movies. It is too far a drive to come home, so while he was at the movies I bought my new favorite salad from Boloco and then hit a local thrift store.
And today we are going to be away at dinner and THEN my DH reminds me that he is flying to Texas tomorrow for work.... so I won't be making any big meals until at least Thursday. DS and I are pretty content with scrambled eggs, smoothies, or something similarly simple for meals when DH is away. So I get a brief summer vacation from cooking this week!! :yay:
A lot of folks rave about Walden's dressings at my meetings. They are zero points but also rather expensive.
I have tried a few of their things, but overall I think they taste like chemicals.... which is pretty much what they are....otherwise how could there be CALORIE-FREE peanut butter and chocolate sauce?! That being said, DH likes the chocolate sauce.:confused3
I'm a vinagrette person, too. I don't mind having a couple of points for my dressing. I've been using pomegranate vinegar with olive oil and it is very tasty. Sea salt is an excellent addition to dressing. ::yes::
Have a great Sunday all! :goodvibes
I need to suck it up and stop trying to avoid using my Points on dressing. As it is, I water down my light vinagarette with rice wine vinegar. But the pomegranate vinegar you mentioned and the pumpkin seed oil that Flossbolna mentioned both sound delicious! I need to do a bit more shopping in that aisle at the store!
TTY all later!..................P
