Wisdom Teeth Extraction - Dry Socket Question

would depend on why he is telling you to get them pulled. Are they impacted? Severely decayed? Making your other teeth start to shift? All good reasons to have them removed.

unfortunately, none you have stated. i've had them this long....

Physically yes! :rotfl:

No we haven't sold yet. We have 2 agents on it, they are a married couple. There is nothing more we can do but wait. Nothing has sold in our neighborhood in months. The 1 that had a contract lost it right before closing just like we did, wonder if it was the same guy???

We've dropped the price by about 10%, painted everything, updated the landscaping, had the carpets cleaned, hired maids, hired the landscapers and lawn care people, offered a home warranty, and are now spifing the buyers agent (they get 3.5% and my agent is taking 2.5%). So we wait and wait.

I had my dry socket 15 years ago and I still remember how miserable I was.

Well, with the mortgage industry shake-up, things have really slowed down. My husband is a good indicator, since he's a home inspector. For the first time since he's been in business, he didn't get one inspection this week. Usually he does two a day when he's not at the fire station. It's scary slow.

Hang in there and remember this too shall pass!

And I'll keep telling myself the same thing!

Hey - hope you're feeling better soon! :)

My DS just had all four of his pulled. He didn't have pain for the first couple of days but sure enough he had pain on days 3 and 4. It helped when he took his pain pills but from what I understand with a dry socket you would be in EXTREME pain. Kind of like clinging-to-the-ceiling kind of pain.

The doctor said that it is common to experience pain between days 3 and 5 rather than the first few days.

He had them out on a Tuesday. He was sick of mashed potatoes and ice cream and by Sat. night, he easily handled a hamburger.

Are you gently swishing (not rinsing) with warm salt water twice a day? This speeds the healing.

Oh, yeah. If the instructions had told me to shave my head bald, I'd have been doing it!

I feel fine, so hopefully what I'm seeing is nothing more than normal healing. Tomorrow is day four, so by Monday - which of course is a holiday - I should be home free!

I'm just borrowing trouble. You know... just in case I need it later.

Best quote of the night! :rotfl: I had three wisdom teeth pulled (missing one. Guess I'm not so wise after all.) and got a dry socket on the bottom left side. I WANTED TO DIE. QUICKLY. :scared1: Stayed doped up on Hydrocodone for two days, then felt better. That side of my face swelled, too.

I think you're probably experiencing normal pain -- GL to you! Hope you feel better soon...

BTW: I have a full set of braces -- if you want to try some soft foods, try refried beans w/ salsa & sour cream, Spaghetti-Os, squash with sugar & butter, finely ground hamburger w/ Manwich sauce (cook, drain, allow to cool then use your hands to finely crush) -- all can be swallowed without chewing!

He had me start taking pain pills immediately after, as a preemptive strike, and I think I took two more and that's it.

Ok, just so I'm clear on this...so you weren't on pain meds when you told me you liked my tile choices on the remodeling thread?? ;) ;) ;) :rotfl2:

You are one brave woman having your teeth pulled by a regular dentist and not by an oral surgeon. :scared1:

Heck, half of the stuff you mentioned sounds like something I'd eat on a regular day! You're creative with the soft foods! :thumbsup2

:lmao: :rotfl2:

If you go back and look at the 29th, and probably even a portion of the 30th, I didn't post a thing. I could hardly walk straight after taking my first pill, much less be coordinated enough to type!

That's what the dentist told me when I told him I'd rather have them pulled. Being put under general anesthesia creeps me out for some reason; I wanted to be awake. When I felt like he was unhinging my jaw, I finally understood!

My dry socket was the most painful experience of my life (and I've had 5 children, 1 c/s, and an abdominal surgery). The good part was losing 15 pounds in 2 weeks!

I had dry socket and it became infected. The most disgusting ooze came out of holes in my mouth. It was just sick SICK I TELL YA!!! I had to go into the dentist and they put this gauze stuff soaked in eucalyptus (sp) something or other inside the sockets. For two weeks everything I ate tasted like eucalyptus mint...gross. I will never ever forget that. I cant remember the pain, but the taste---I get the shivers typing this and it was 15 years ago!!!

That was why I lost 15 pounds! I went to have it put in twice a day for 2 weeks.

yep - mine tasted like cloves. I think I had to go once a day for 2 weeks. Such a pain but the second that thing was in there it was instant relief.

Well, this morning both of the bottom ones are starting to cave in a little. Neither of them has the blood clot that the upper one has. But, I still have no pain.

If take it day to day, from the time that I had them pulled, then at 2PM today, that'll be four days, but if I count calendar days, today is the fifth day. The dentist said if it was going to happen, it would happen at 3 - 5 days.

I don't know if I'm out of the woods or not! Is what I'm seeing normal healing, or are they starting to crater? It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Those that had dry sockets - was it fine one minute and then BAM! Or did it happen gradually, like what I'm seeing?

Can you tell I'm a worrywart? :lmao:

Okay, my dentist is about 45 minutes away from me. This will not be cool.

I don't really remember anything except feeling like I wanted to die...immediately. I think mine was pretty suddenly, like someone hit me upside the head with a baseball bat. It then got worse from there!

It was a huge pain and the dressing had to be changed daily but after the pain I was in I would have driven anywhere for as long as it took to make sure I never felt that way again!

One time my daughter made cupcakes and sprinkled clove on top. All of our lips went numb! I can see why they use that stuff!

my dentist keeps telling me I need to have my wisdom teeth pulled. All I see is $$$ for him. What are the consequences if you keep your wisdom teeth?
All four of my wisdom teeth came in perfectly. I too got various opinions about having them removed.

I moved many times so I had several dentists over the years. Most said "You use them, why have them out." and a few said "Get rid of them now."

Unfortunately a dentist when I was very young did not believe in treating wisdom teeth so he allowed several big cavities to form. I had them filled in my 20s.

I eventually have had 3 of my wisdom teeth removed - because the large fillings eventually failed and I was faced with either extraction or a crown. I could not see putting a crown on a wisdom tooth.

They can remove a top wisdom tooth and leave the bottom in place which is what I did almost 20 years ago. No pain or swelling, and I took a cross country business trip the next day.

I needed a bottom one out last year so my dentist removed it and the top one above it. My dentist is a personal friend and is an oral surgeon who is very, very good. My bottom wisdom tooth had 4 roots (usually 2) and had "barbs" on the end. He had to chop it into pieces to remove it.

But I had NO swelling and no pain at all even with a difficult extraction.

I forgot to add that my cheeks were sooo swollen, I looked like a chipmunk storing up for winter. It was real pretty

Am_I_There_Yet, are you now scared up to your eyeballs with the dry socket stories?

Sort of like when people hear you're pregnant and launch into the childbirth stories. :rotfl2:
