Wisdom Teeth Being Removed--What to eat?

Hello!!
On Monday I am getting all 4 of my Wisdom teeth removed, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to eat. I have an idea: soft, cold foods, but i'm not sure what soft cold foods to eat.
Here's a list so far:
-Pudding
-Jello
-Applesauce

I'd prefer not to eat pudding for breakfast...but...
Does anyone have any suggestions?!

Thanks so much!!!

Yogurt, cottage cheese (with peaches on top...yum...) oatmeal/cream of wheat.

Best wishes, and I hope you heal up quick. I was amazed how quickly I healed up after having mine done, and they were fused to the bone and had to be taken out surgically while I was knocked out flat.

OUCH!!!! and thank you very much for the wishes!! I am being knocked out too, which im not a big fan of...i'd prefer not to get poked with needles.

I wasn't all that hungry when I had my wisdom teeth taken out... but man, oh man, did I ever want mcdonald's fries after watching all that tv.

I ended up mashing a lot of ritz crackers into the roof of my mouth with my tongue - they melt fast. But I am not one who can eat a whole lot of not-solid foods for a while....

You forgot about yogurt. Lots of flavors, and you can get those in the tube that you wouldn't really need to open up for the spoon with. Maybe cottage cheese? Maybe. it might not be smooth enough.

I had soup too... I know it's not cold but no one told me not to?

Good luck!!!

I hate needles too. I'm a huge chicken about them. But it was quick and I was gone before I knew what hit me. The guy said to count backwards from 100 and I think I might have made it to 98.

Smoothies are a great idea, but look out for blackberries and raspberries because you may get the seeds stuck down in there. You could also pick up some Ensure to make sure you're getting enough nutrition (make milkshakes with them if you don't want to drink them out of the can) although it will probably only be a few days so you may not need to bother.

Bananas, canteloupe, peaches, etc. may be soft enough for you to chew also.

It's been 10 years since I had mine out. I remember eating jello and those jello cheesecake cups when i had to eat cold stuff.

Once you can eat warm foods I ate a LOT of mashed potatoes. DH would get them for me from Boston Market. It did get old fast tho.

Good luck!!

Same here. I had to be knocked out and have them cut out. I was surprised how little pain I had after. I only took one pain pill the first night and didn't need to take another after that. I also healed pretty quick too. For some reason I can't remember what I ate after :confused3

WARNING!!! Do NOT use a straw! Doing so will dramatically increase your risk of a dry socket, the world's most painful condition, which can last up to 2 weeks (and you will have to visit your surgeon daily for packing, to help with the pain). :faint:

Scrambled eggs - ate them every day after the dry socket (which caused me to lose 14 pounds in 2 weeks).

I had mine out in Feb, so I recall all too well what I ate.

Applesauce
Chicken Noodle soup
mashed potato
pudding
oatmeal
yogurt

After a couple of days I begged DH to go and get me Wendy's fries and a frosty. Once I got the nerve up to eat the fries and started eating more solids and did fine.

I will say, I had mine out on a Thurs and by Mon I was back to work. I was still a little swollen, but by a week after I was in great shape. And I followed the directions to a T and no dry sockets or pain.

Good luck to you!

I was still living at home with mom and dad when I had all four of mine pulled at the same time. My mother kept me doped up on Percocet for four days straight... great method of dealing with the pain if you can do it! Plus I didn't have much recollection of my looking like a chipmunk! I lived on Carnation Instant Breakfast for a while... jello was workable. There's always soup. Good luck!

You know, you never realize how much you take solid food for granted until you CAN'T HAVE IT.

Honestly, that was the worst part of the recovery for me. I didn't even have much pain or swelling, but not being able to eat REAL food was torture.

Scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, oatmeal...that's the stuff that kept me going. I've never heard of not being able to eat warm food? :confused3 Is this something they tell you not to eat just for the first day or something? I guess I wouldn't know because I was so sick from the anesthetic that I didn't eat until the middle of the second day.

I had all four of mine pulled at the same time and didn't really eat for the first two days. After that it was warm, not hot, mashed potatos, smoothies and chicken broth (luke warm) The temp on my foods was really a big deal for me and everything had to be luke warm, not hot, not cold, just luke warm because it would hurt. I take some of that back! Ice cream actually felt really good and there are so many different flavors.

All I have to say is, I'm sure glad I got it all done at once because I wouldn't want to go through that again. Also my mouth doesn't hurt anymore. All of my wisdom teeth were inpacted to the bone and so they knocked me out cold and they had to surgically take all of them out. they had to cut the gums, break the teeth into pieces and take them out that way because they were so badly impacted. All I remember is them placing the oxygen mask on my face and I feel asleep. the surgen told me that women often wake up feeling very emotional and often cry and that's what I did.

Point is, If I can get through it, I know anyone can because I'm the biggest baby I know. Good Luck and hope you have a quick recovery!:)

I just stumbled on this thread and coincidentally, I'm having all 4 wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow. I went to the dentist about two weeks ago and he was shocked by the fact that my teeth were so straight and I never needed any braces or whatnot. He also told me I had all 4 wisdom teeth. One is definitely impacted, since it's been sitting there (just the top outside of my gum) for over a year now. He told me that they are not crooked or anything, but may be impacted and it wasn't worth taking the chance of having future problems with my already straight teeth. So I made the appt and it is TOMORROW!! I don't know what I'm getting but I just really hope I don't feel the cracking or yanking...yuck! I also just had a big delicious dinner since solid foods won't be on my menu for a couple of days!

Already have the pudding and definitely have soup ready to go...mmmm....egg drop soup so I can still have my taste of chinese food! My fave!

I forgot to add one thing. One thing I was not prepared for was the weight I lost from the soft food diet. I lost 7 lbs, which was nice, but I was so not expecting that.
