Winter Illnesses

I am here to get my shots and just found out that the RSV is $300! Not getting that one 😭
Is it not covered by insurance where you are? They keep offering it to me so guessing I should go get that one. I'm due for my tetnis and Whooping cough.

Today is day 28 with a sinus infection. I’ve been on 3 antibiotics. I think I’m finally getting better. Im just tired from being sick for so long. Really behind on all my holiday baking but it is what is this year.

Not quite an illness but I went to the doc’s yesterday and got 3 different vaccines simultaneously.

Never do that again!
DH did three a while back, and agreed - two at a time is our new limit!

We've had a similar issue with things taking longer to go away than they used to. Thought we were just getting old, but maybe it's the bugs evolving.

@PollyannaMom what is interesting is they had me on the Z pack (which never works for me), then something I never heard of, and now old school amoxicillin. After one dose of amoxicillin I started to feel better. Makes me wonder if the new drugs don’t work as well or if the bugs are evolving.

We just came home a few days ago from the children’s hospital, my son was in the ICU for 5 nights dealing with RSV and pneumonia. I wish I had gotten the $300 vaccine, I am guessing the hospital bill will be significantly more than that… not to mention that he was in pain and suffering 😞 I am assuming DH or I brought it home since my son doesn’t go to daycare.

Re the RSV vaccine: it is only recommended by the CDC for pregnant woman (to protect the baby once it’s born), for children through 19 months, and adults over the age of 60. So it’s unlikely insurance will pay outside of these age groups.

Yes, we are in the over 60 group, so it was free.

We had the previous covid shot in Sept. Flu shot in Oct. RSV late Nov, and went to get lastest covid shot and pharmacist recommended waiting at least two weeks between shots. People complaining of side effect when done together or too close.

I might have had RSV a few years ago. I think I coughed hard enough to rearrange my internal organs. But I didnt' feel bad. Not worn out or fever. Just cough cough cough. Several months after the fact, I mentioned it to dr at an physical and he said probably RSV. During that time I did test 4 times for covid every couple of days, all negitive.

But after four or five disney trips post covid and normalish life, to my knowledge, we've never had covid. I don't test every week or anything, but we haven't had the flu or colds, etc. We only get hit with the body falling apart and visits to hospitals. (No covid from there either)

I just remembered we went to stay at DD back in Oct. Second day there, DGD comes home from school with fever. Got her set up in comfy chair, watch tv, sleep. It was by a window. I opened the window, stuck in a small 6 inch fan, stuffed a blanket in the open space and had the fan blowing outward. Hoping her germs left. Sounds goofy, but we didn't get sick.

UGH! I had spread my 3 out over 6 weeks, 2 weeks between each. Zero side affects from any of them.

So very sorry to hear that, @Ladyandthepuppies.'s

As I said above, I also waited 2 weeks between each. No issues.

Our neighbor down the street (my age, 80) has the COVID. He was weak and fell in his driveway. Had to call 911 to help him up and back into the house. He did not go to the hospital.

We have not had anything lately....hope it holds. Surprised because DH has no immune system. I guess in infusions are working!!

We got RSV and flu at the same time. Pharmacist also advised us to wait 2 weeks for the Covid one.

Well my husband and I just went on a 10 day cruise with 5 ports. However after the first port I became seriously ill on board, was diagnosed with RSV and was put into jail(quarantine) on the cruise ship. 72 hours of quarantine starting only once I was back in my stateroom after spending the day in medical so it was 4 days total. I missed St Martin, St Thomas, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. My husband and I paid $$$$ to go on a 10 day cruise in NCL Haven.. to only spend 3 hours off the ship in the first port - Bermuda. :rotfl2: Three weeks prior to this cruise I got my flu shot and Covid booster. I had no flipping clue there was an RSV vaccine. :rotfl2:

Many of them are becoming resistant. Mostly because antibiotics are so over prescribed for viruses which they cannot kill. then when you get a bacterial infection its harder to treat. We are essentially helping bacteria to be stronger every time we take an antibiotic we didn’t need.

Oh no! That’s terrible. I hope you feel better.

But do they share the break room, bathroom and us the same entrance? Why do people go to work knowing they are sick? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, in their defense - they didn't come to work "knowing they were sick". They called out, after following our protocols and testing positive. And they didn't share a break room, bathroom and/or entrance. As I stated in my post, they had zero contact. Probably had something to do with the 70 miles between their work locations....

For what it is worth, I fired someone for coming to work knowing they had Covid. But I will only appreciate the employees I have who are conscientious of their coworkers and follow the policies I set down in regards to Covid.
