Winter Illnesses

I’m currently in Daytona Beach. We flew down on Friday December 1st. By Monday I had a cold. I wore a good mask on both flights. Removing it only to drink some tea and eat lunch at the Atlanta airport. I have my senior flu and Covid vaccines. Fortunately it’s not a terrible cold. I had a fever for a couple of days, but the dry cough is gone already. I always take Vitamin D all winter and haven’t had a cold in years. I usually get very sick with a cold, but this one doesn’t seem too bad, just a nuisance so far. I’m diligent in doing sinus rinses. I’m wearing a mask when I go anywhere to protect others. Stay safe everyone.

We went in Sept and we all came back with covid. It's so hard not to get something with all the people and all the surfaces you touch.

Just back from Universal, and I brought back a cold with me. Not the end of the world, but annoying and hanging on!
I think being trapped in a closed environment like an airplane is a big factor in getting sick. There's no way to avoid people who don't care that they cough on you! We used lots of hand sanitizer and my daughter didn't get sick at all.

3 generations of us went to WDW in October of 2021 and none of us got sick at all. We all just went again this year around the same time of year and nobody got sick this time either.

I didn't get sick in Orlando in 2021 either. I did get Covid there in May 2022 and Feb 2023. Came home in November with a cold. And yes, I take Vitamin D year round, really has nothing to do with getting sick.

My (31 yo) DS surprised me by announcing he had gotten a flu and covid vaccine recently. Apparently a lot of his friends who traveled for Thanksgiving came back sick, so he decided to take precautions before flying here for Christmas. This is a kid who hasn't been to see a doctor in 9 years. (He did get the first 2 covid shots at least when they came out)

We have a trip coming up in January. My daughter just go over a terrible flu. we are all taking immune supplements, plan to bring vitamin c (EmergenC packets), vitamin D. We are not seeing much family over Christmas as we have a small family. Will be packing hand sanitizer, lysol for hotel, and masking in crowded areas. Covid, flu and RSV are rampant here right now so we are already doing all this when we go out at home.

Yes! Not even trying to cover! I noticed it, too, especially on the planes. A kid of about ten was coughing in the seat right front of us and I never saw him cover his mouth or saw him Mom, seated next to him, remind him to cover. Or put a mask on. The same thing happened on a flight we were on in October. Someone in front of us sneezed the whole way home. Never made any attempt to cover his mouth or sneeze into a tissue or anything. DD got sick several days later (negative for flu and Covid) and it eventually turned into bronchitis with the need for antibiotics. Ugh!
Ugh, I had really hoped one of the good things to come out of the pandemic was better hygiene habits. Guess not, and I too have observed people coughing/sneezing and not covering their mouth. Drives me nuts. Yes, I know I can wear a mask (and do on public transportation/crowded spaces). But there's also just common courtesy in not spraying whatever was in your nose/mouth all into the air for others to take in. And yes, I know that not all coughs are contagious, but personally I cover my mouth regardless (even if I know I'm coughing because I swallowed wrong or similar) because 1)it gives those around me some peace of mind and 2) I don't know if I do have a contagious disease that I could be spreading.

I had a cold that lingered for 3 weeks mid to late October. Haven't been sick like that in years. One ear still feels like there's fluid in it.

My brother's family was in Disney last week and was supposed to take a cruise, but came home early with covid.

Dh and I went to our local Walgreens yesterday to get flu and Covid vaccines. But they had not gotten Covid vaccines for this season, which surprised me.

We got flu vaccines. Not sure we'll search for a Covid vaccine, we've had at least 4. But our last one was last year. I've had a headache for about 15 hours. I'm guessing it's a reaction to the flu shot.

There is a lot of respiratory crud going around our area.

Hoping the flu shot keeps dh and I from getting sick.

After easing up on mask wearing earlier in the summer, I began in late August to notice more and more people sick with one crud or the other. I'm now carrying a mask in my handbag and slip it on whenever I find myself in a line or a crowd. Always mask on a plane or bus.

My doctor says don't rely on one home negative test. If symptoms persist with take another home test or go to a clinic for better test

Haven't had Covid yet - get a shot every time a new vaccine comes out plus RSV and flu. We have a major international trip in January and don't want to get sick.

Where is it? Not sure I saw it. I did make note of a few I saw around the community, and a hospital, lol.

It might not hurt to bring some supplies. We made several trips to CVS - fortunately, we had a rental.

I've got no idea where it's located ...I took this from the article you attached, right at the very top. The wording is according to the doctor at Disney's urgent care...

This is what I found on Disney’s website, plus a satellite view with it circled in red.

Oh, man, that looks ugly! And painful! Sending healing vibes. :flower3:

Btw @MikeandReneePlus5, I have been taking Vitamin D for several years now.
I had bronchitis this April and that was the most sick I have EVER felt in my entire life. Not joking, it was that bad. I got whatever illness elevated into bronchitis from Universal so the Disney ick transcends to other places too.

Say what you will about masking, but I enjoyed not having a cold, allergies, flu, etc. for 2+ years.
I've actually seen way more people wearing masks in public in my area lately. I was at two different malls over the weekend and it wasn't just 1 or 2 people. It was a sizable chunk of people, employees and customers, wearing masks. I still wear one on a plane because airline germs are something else. I've been perfectly healthy before a flight and then 1-2 days after the flight, I start getting sick.

AH Centra Care LBV has a shuttle service. They pick you up at your WDW resort. They even provide a shuttle if you have an ECV you need. They brought me on Friday.

When I called Guest Services at WDW they knew NOTHING about the shuttle service. However at Guest Service in WL, they knew exactly what I was talking about and where to go to pick up the shuttle.

Not COVID, other concerns.

That’s the one I was thinking of, we were over that way in LBV for a few days (wedding) and kept driving by it. Good to know they’ll transport if need be. There is another one that I’ve seen over by the big Marriott by OKW. I also noticed the hospital which is in Turkey Lake. (We had to go over near there for something and my DH thought they were saying “turkey leg”, he didn’t understand what they meant! Lol)

Thanks. I took the words 'at Disney's Urgent Care' to mean, well - at Disney! I guess not exactly!
(What do those reddit people know 🤫 lol.) j/k!

We were talking about this, too. Just once many years ago - again, sitting behind someone hacking on the plane home, and several days later I was sick and tested positive for Influenza A. I was so mad! I had never had Influenza before. That was long before people wore masks publicly, but I don’t even think a mask would’ve helped that, honestly. Germs can still get in the mucous membranes of your eyes and on your clothes, etc. I would’ve needed full hazard gear the way that person was constantly coughing.

We‘ve had several trips during the pandemic and many in January during Norwalk season and not gotten anything before, either; once even going during an actual Norwalk outbreak. I guess sometimes you hit it just right where you do get sick, unfortunately. From the timeline I’d say I got it on the plane going down.

This is true. But sometimes the tests keep coming out negative when you know you have something like Covid if you’ve had the symptoms before. This happened to my DD last month.

CVS has boxes of Covid tests for sale by the cash register. Unfortunately they cost around $25 for two tests. I think a lot of people aren’t bothering to test or don’t have access to tests.

I wish that the information regarding free home tests was more widely known. If not for the DIS I wouldn’t have known to order more this fall.

We were at Disney last week and I came down with Covid. Still recovering.

I’ve seen some others mention they came home sick, too. (Let’s see a show of hands!)

My daughter sent me this:

My feeling is that flu, Covid, and other germs are everywhere right now, and will probably get worse over the holidays, with everyone visiting.

Try and stay safe out there! 😷 🤧 🤒
We went for thanksgiving and I’m still fighting the chest infection. My husband is finally better though which is good because we all know man flu is so much worse.
