Winter Illnesses

We were at Disney last week and I came down with Covid. Still recovering.

I’ve seen some others mention they came home sick, too. (Let’s see a show of hands!)

My daughter sent me this:

My feeling is that flu, Covid, and other germs are everywhere right now, and will probably get worse over the holidays, with everyone visiting.

Try and stay safe out there! 😷 🤧 🤒
We went for thanksgiving and I’m still fighting the chest infection. My husband is finally better though which is good because we all know man flu is so much worse.
I just got back Sat. after being there for a week. Caught a cold, yes, just a cold, no I didn't go to the doctor. Started getting a runny nose on Thurs. by Friday it was a cold. Had to drive home 7 hours, not fun. Took all day yesterday just laying around eating chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese. Feeling better today and was able to sleep about 5 hours last night. We usually come home about every other trip with what we call the Disney crud. To add insult to injury I had my grand daughter with me on Wens. night babysitting while mom and dad (my son) went to Jollywood nights. Decided to go to Epcot and while I was trying to unhook her stroller she decided to escape. Thankfully into a bus que with people in it but I fell trying to grab her when she ran. Tore the living daylights out of my knee so I was having to hobble on Thurs and Fri.
This is yesterday after the swelling went down. View attachment 817068
yikes! Hope you feel better. That looks sore!

I wish that the information regarding free home tests was more widely known. If not for the DIS I wouldn’t have known to order more this fall.
I got mine but it is completely different from any other tests we have used and the directions are only in Spanish. I’m not fluent so I hope I did it right.

So sorry you were sick Pea! Hope it didn’t wreck your vacation and that you are much better now!

Luckily, we have been healthy so far in our house. I did, however, get both the flu and Covid vaccines back in October because we were going on a cruise and I didn’t want to get sick.

I did think we might be sick after Thanksgiving because we had a house full (including college kids) but so far so good.

I do make sure that I use hand sanitizer after leaving any stores and wash my hands a ton this time of year, but know that it is probably only a matter of time.

Hope everyone feeling crummy recovers soon!

There is no feeling or question about it; we (US, and also Canada) are in the latest big winter surge of Covid, along with the typical seasonal surge of all the "regular" stuff. The Covid wastewater ticked up around the general time that school started, had just started to level out, and then has been on a steep and steady incline since about Halloween for all but some of the Western US.

Was it a dark blue box? I got 2 orange ones and 2 dark blue ones. On of dark blue one had 2 separate pages of instructions, 1 in english and 1 in spanish. The other blue box just had the english one. ??? It was haphazard what they put in. Anyway, I have covid right now but not from Disney. I'm blaming it on going downtown to pay the house taxes in person : ) Pretty sure it is when I went to the casino for a concert. My last dose of covid meds are tomorrow. also on Ciproflaxin (?sp) for something else so dr said I have the A bomb in my system right now.

I had covid for the second time about a month and a half ago. We are heading to Disney on the 26th and I'm getting vaccc'd today for Covid, RSV and the flu. Hope not to catch anything, there are some nasty bugs going around here.

Got back Sunday. Daughter is home sick with a nasty cough. The minute she seemed a little off, we masked up, so hopefully we didn't spread anything. Early in the week we got on a bus and and a kid was coughing right on us, wiping his nose with his hand and then touching everything! Lots of stuff like that. I know masks are an issue, but I sure wish Wdw would have kept up on the sanitizer stations everywhere! I also learned the hotels don't have thermometers for purchase so pack everything!

 RSV is a real thing here this year and has never been seen previously in adults to this level. Many people are getting it concurrent with the flu and the combination is very serious. I asked my pharmacist for the vaccine when I got my flu shot. Unfortunately, in this province it’s available by prescription only and not covered by a lot of drug plans. I tried my plan for pre-approval and was denied. The shot would cost me upwards of $300. :(

I am here to get my shots and just found out that the RSV is $300! Not getting that one 😭

I had a cold that lingered for 3 weeks mid to late October. Haven't been sick like that in years. One ear still feels like there's fluid in it.

My brother's family was in Disney last week and was supposed to take a cruise, but came home early with covid.

Dh and I went to our local Walgreens yesterday to get flu and Covid vaccines. But they had not gotten Covid vaccines for this season, which surprised me.

We got flu vaccines. Not sure we'll search for a Covid vaccine, we've had at least 4. But our last one was last year. I've had a headache for about 15 hours. I'm guessing it's a reaction to the flu shot.

There is a lot of respiratory crud going around our area.

Hoping the flu shot keeps dh and I from getting sick.
I couldn’t find Covid Boosters or Flu Shots at Walgreens within 25 miles and we have one practically on every corner. I’ve never had an issue before. Albertsons pharmacy, no issue and both free. They also gave me a stack of 10% off groceries coupons.

They are still plentiful and filled at DLR and DCA.

Same here. I lost a baby niece to RSV and my oldest DD and another niece were thisclose to being hospitalized with it. It’s serious stuff.

We just got back from 2.5 months in Orlando (Covid boosters and flu shots current, plus my dad got the RSV shot). First 1.5 months, stayed perfectly healthy, even through weeks of going to HHN every night. Then we both caught a nasty cold (not Covid, based on multiple tests). That lasted about 5 days, but the cough hung on for another couple of weeks (I apologize if you heard us hacking, we did cough into our sleeves and were not possibly contagious anymore by the time we stopped isolating). Finally got over that, and then we both caught a 24 hour stomach bug. That one came on like a freight train and caused a very unpleasant night, but was gone the next day. Overall, I'd say it could have been a lot worse, especially given that Dad has all kinds of underlying health conditions and we had both been pretty much locked down until this trip.

This reminded me, I was so mad I didn’t have a thermometer in our kitchen-sink type toiletry bag. I searched through everything and found some weird plastic ones that I wasn’t even sure how to use and in desperation, I unwrapped one and stuck it under my tongue after DD read the directions out loud. But no, it was a dud. Not surprisingly since it was really old! So note to self: Get a thermometer just for the toiletry bag before next trip!

Went to WDW in late SEPT, came home and was just fine.
By end of OCT, my husband and myself both caught some virus that was mainly a COUGH that would not go away, then it was phlegm in the throat and cough, cough ,cough. That went on for a few weeks, yuck! Then it became a scratchy throat and cough, cough, cough. Now, it's a dry throat and the darn cough comes out of nowhere. I have cough drops in my purse, in the car and in every pocket of every coat I own. Never had a fever or any head congestion. In week 6 or 7 now, UGH!
My adult daughter is on antibiotics for STREP right now. Her and my grandson live with us and we are symptom free from that.

Not quite an illness but I went to the doc’s yesterday and got 3 different vaccines simultaneously.

Never do that again!

We made it back from Disney in September with no one getting sick but my daughter started school the week after Thanksgiving and caught strep two days in finished the antibiotics up on Sunday and now has Croup 🫠

Work in long term care and covid already ran thru our buildings in late October/November. Still stray cold or covid around but lately have had GI bug go through.
Say what you will about masks but I work in high exposure and haven’t been sick since 2019 with no mask :j Even my one “covid” bout was a day of headache. Really comes down to individual immune system. Think collective “we” have forgotten seasonal illnesses are called “seasonal” for a reason
