Wine Package vs. BYOB

I'm thinking about buying a wine package for our trip on the Dream but it will be me, DH & my mom sharing a bottle each night. I'd love to find out how big the bottles they use are. I can drink about 2 glasses with dinner and DH and my mom the same but the smaller bottles don't carry 6 glasses.

It's only a 3 night trip so if I purchase the package I know they add a 15% gratuity. If I purchase the bigger bottles of the wines that I like, I know they charge the $20 corkage fee, but do they also charge 15% on the bottles that they uncork? What would 15% of a bottle that I paid for be anyway?

Just asking for opinions. Thanks.

The corkage fee takes the place of the 15% gratuity. The bottles are the standard 750ml size bottles, which are about 5 glasses. You could purchase the 4 night (4 bottle) package and have your serving team store an open bottle for the next night.

If they uncork a bottle that I bring and we don't finish it, will they hold it for me or can I just bring it back to my room?

Another question, if I bring more than one bottle (my mom prefers red, DH loves his Riesling, I can do either), do I get charged a corkage for each bottle or is it just a flat fee?

Corkage fees are per bottle. If you don't all like the same wines, you can just purchase by the glass. That's what DH ad I do. The menus wil recommend a well paired wine for each entree so we just pick the entree and take the wine pairing. That way we don't have to decide to both drink a red or white or find one that matches with both of our entrees and don't need to worry about whether or not we would finish a whole bottle.

If you bring or buy a bottle and don't finish it you have the option of having them hold it until the next night or take it back to your room.

We found one bottle a night was too much for us, so we bought ala carte. Spend less than the cheapest package.

I saw little or no benefit to buying one of the wine packages. Just buy the bottles ala cart or bring your own.

So we did not do the wine package because we were not crazy about the selection. We found the prices on the ship to be comparable to a restaurant in a major metro area, and we found the sparkling wines to be better than competitively priced.

Hi,

If you bring your own bottles of wine on board you can ask your cabin steward for glasses and carry a glass with you to dinner. You may not have your two glasses at dinner but fill her up and I'm sure it will be at least 7oz. Happy cruisin

I don't know if this helps or not, My husband and I brought 2 bottles of our favorite wine with us on the last cruise, we uncorked it in our stateroom and filled 2 Tervis cups. We had chilled the wine in the stateroom fridge the night before. We then took the cups with us to dinner and asked for a couple of wine glasses and we poured our own wine which was still chilled. We saved on corking fees and didn't have to by a pricey wine package of wine we didn't even know if we would enjoy or not. We are very particular about the wine we drink.

Wow.

We used to buy the regular wine package, but as someone else mentioned, not the best selection. The Premium Wine Pkg is better. We now bring our own. Have never brought them to dinner though... hmmmm

Like for like if you buy the package you cannot be cheaper than the package buying the drinks in the package unless you stick to cider only each night. Each home port has its own selection.

Like for like if you drink a wine per night you cannot beat the wine package.

We have purchased it three times for its value.

If you do not buy a bottle per night then you can't really compare like with like.

I'm sure that could be considered true if abuse is present, however when several cm/officers has given a/us a suggestion and permission to bring personal alcohol to the dining room and poolside. Therefore concerning myself with abuse and breaking the "rules" about DCL's gracious alcohol allowance isn't necessary or warranted.
