Wine Bottle in Carryon??

Can I bring a full bottle of unopened wine in my carry-on on board an aircraft? The NTSA site lists lots of items not to bring onboard, but is silent on the wine bottle issue.

I'm flying Delta to Texas next week and having dinner at friends' house - unfortunately they live in a dry county. (Texas - its like a whole 'nuther country!)

I also called the Medallion Memeber Services line and was told the same thing. I would hate to have to give up a nice bottle of wine at the security checkpoint at BDL on Monday morning.

I agree Bradley is the PITS. I've been in nicer bus stations! The luggage carousel is awful and the exit from baggage claim is so poorly designed. Why do people insist on blocking the exit once they get outside the terminal???!!!! I am looking forward to the opening of the new terminal (ooooooh...we're gettting a McDonald's! LOL!) Hopefully Delta will have moved to the new gates by our Disney vacation next April!

I have brought several bottles of wine and wine coolers as gifts for crew members on our Disney cruises. Only once was there ever any concern, and it was over the number of bottles. It was United at O'Hare, and they said their was a limit but didn't say what it was (I must have been under it). Their concern didn't seem to be security so much as whether I was planning to drink it on the plane and get drunk and disorderly...I assured them it would be unopened!

I've never had a problem carrying wine in my carry-on. It usually breezes through the x-ray machine.

When I visited Napa and Sonoma last year, each winery provided carry-on wine boxes that held 6 bottles. Now that was convenient!!!

I am planning to take an unopened bottle of DH's favorite scotch as a surprise for him. Hope the screeners don't say anything, and spoil my plans.

Although we will be ensconced for a week in our romantic room for two at the Poly, I feel certain that we will not finish the bottle. Both of us drink only occasionally. Do you think airport security have any issues with a previously opened container for the return trip home?

Sorry!!...Open bottles are not allowed on any aircraft..I guess you could give it to mousekeeping or the front desk.Here's an idea..knock on the door of the room next to yours explain the situation and ask them if they will like the scotch ,if they are scotch drinkers they will appreciate it!!.

As far as taking an unopened bottle you can take it with you in your carry on.If they ask to look at it at the check point you can always tell your husband about it before he sees it. Any type of alcohol over 140 proof is removed at check point as it is extremely flammable(and undrinkable )

Thanks for the reply bridgettesmom. I suspected that was the way things worked, but ya never know until ya ask!

I prefer a nice glass of wine myself, but every since DH's trip to a real pub in Scotland, where real men drink real single malt scotch "neat" (no ice, no mixer, room temp ), that is his vice of choice. Maybe that was why he felt the need to take a short swim in Loch Ness, which remains at a chilly temp year round.

Guess the surprise will have to wait for our return home.

I would see if a local liquor store sells the smaller bottles as they do on flights. I know I ahve seen a small Chivas somwhere!
