Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2022 (Nov. 3-6, 2022)

How many of you get a cheap toss-away sweatshirt for the wait in the morning before a race and how many just tough it out and keep moving to keep warm? This is a shorter trip and we're trying to carry-on luggage only if possible.

Forget the sweatshirts and buy these instead:

https://www.amazon.com/Emergency-,Designed-Retention-,Marathons-Aid。ANMEILU/dp/B075YP8ZY8/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2D7RKSV6O8LT2&keywords=space+blanket&qid=1664467176&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjE4IiwicXNhIjoiNC43NyIsInFzcCI6IjQuNTcifQ==&sprefix=space+blanket,aps,112&sr=8-6

You can wrap yourself up in them and they really work. They even cover up most of my legs.

The only caveat (which you will hear about 100 times from the announcer) is that you MUST get rid of them before crossing the starting line. They mess with the timing chips (it could be yours, it could be the runner next to you).

In addition to the mylar blankets which are a great space saving way to stay warm, I've heard of others putting long socks on their arms. That should be less bulky than a sweatshirt.

Thank you! Excellent idea.....already put them in my Amazon cart. I like that along with keeping warm they are also waterproof so if it's raining pre-race we don't have to sit there getting soaked. And it's an 8 pack so I'll bring the extras to share!

This is great! Thank you for sharing. Moreover, the pack of six comes out to $1.41 per blanket which is even cheaper than getting a sweatshirt at Wal-mart or Goodwill.

I bring a cheap sweatshirt and sweat pants from Walmart. I think they were about $20 combined. It was warm enough for MW I didn't need the pants so I'll be bringing them and a new cheap sweatshirt for W&D but unless it is below 40° I won't need them. You can get them on the way from the airport if you don't want to pack them.

The space blankets do nothing for me at those temps.

I bought these before, and was never so happy to have them at Princess 2020. I was freezing that morning. I literally just thought about these this morning, just in case it's cool before the Wine and Dine race soon. Planning on ordering soon!

Last year we brought cheap pillows to sit on. We wanted to get there early to get to be in the front of our coral

This will be my first half marathon and I am getting excited! I have a couple of logistics questions, and I apologize if these have been answered. (I tried the search function, I promise! 😄)
Q1: We are staying at BW. Will we be able to walk back through Epcot after the race? I’m assuming the race will be finished prior to Epcot opening. But, I’m thinking the answer will be “not without a ticket.”
Q2: What would be a safe time to make a breakfast ADR?
Thanks so much!

Q1: You will only be allowed to walk through Epcot if the park is open, you have a ticket, and you have a park reservation.
Q2: This question gets asked a lot but the answer really depends on your individual situation. The very fast will be finished by 6:30a and the very last finishers won't finish until 9:30a. What corral you're placed in and your expected pace play a very large role in this.
Further complicating the question is where is this adr and do you plan on returning to your resort to shower first. You'll need to factor in time for that as well.

Wow! Love this! I'm that person who stays sitting for as long as possible!

We've used the following to keep warm:
- cheap fleece blankets
- space blankets
- cheap gloves/mittens
- multiple hot hands - I may have run a particularly cold race with 1 stuffed in my sports bra the entire time :P

Hoping we don't need any of it in November!

Q1: Afraid this was going to be the answer. Bummer. We’re staying at BW, so it kinda stinks to have to take a bus back to the resort when it’s so close. But, it’s not worth $109 to have that privilege either. 😆

We’ll be close to the last corral (if not last), and I’m hoping to get an ADR for Trattoria Al Forno. I’ll keep all those factors in mind and see what’s available.

Thanks for your help!

I would plan a lunch ADR instead after the half. When I did the Princess Half earlier this year, I finished at 9:30, and there were still a bunch of people behind me. I didn’t get back to my hotel until about 10:30, and between getting cleaned up and resting a little (like 15 minutes), I didn’t leave until almost 11:30.

Not sure I should even ask, but... where do I need to look for some photopass share options? I was hopeful that I'd have my own AP before this trip, in which case I would add on the photopass for the year, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

One more thing to think about is you might not be hungry after your race. Everyone responds a little differently with some people starving for a big meal right after, some who just want someting small but no heavy breakfast meal, and still some with no appetite for hours. After my first full I wanted something in my stomach right away and the race had cottage cheese cups at the finish. I ate 3 or 4 of those but wasn't hungry again for hours.

I've always known other people running so shared with them but for this race I'll be in the same boat as you. I would start here to see if anyone has extra space on their photopass and compensate them for it. I believe there are Facebook groups that have people that exchange adding your bib for a donation to charity.

I'd be interested in splitting with someone. My mom will be running her first hm and it would be great to get some photos for her but I'm having a hard time justifying the total price for one or two photos that may or may not look good.

With a little more than a month left, how's everyone's training going so far?

Mine is...okay. Had a brief health setback a few weeks ago which has curtailed my training a bit. Without going into detail, HYDRATE! and relax. I was already leaning towards a chill, run/walk strategy as is, so this just confirms it!

Mine is going OK. Having issues with my Plantar Fasciitis that I wish would go away. Also had some hip pain. Working with a PT on all the above but I don't think they will all manage to go away by Wine and Dine. Especially because I'm really training for Dopey in January.

I think I will be able to do what I need to do in November

I was also wondering about PhotoPass options. We are AP holders-is adding the $99 Photopass the best option? If my daughter and I are participating together could we get away with only adding it to one AP? This is our first event, so I have no clue what to expect-do Photopass also take photos with your phone for you? I'm guessing all that would add up a bunch of extra time so I wasnt sure what to prepare for.

Not the best between inconsistent work hours and now downtime due to Ian… I’m 14 miles backed up and it’s doubtful I’ll get my run in tomorrow

For us when photopass was a part of gold tier I would get that just for race photos and now I alone pay the upcharge on it you can put up to 5 bib numbers per race I believe

DH and I are also AP holders and we have the photopass added on my AP only. I just add his bib number to my account and it works just fine. You’ll have no problem with only one account having it.
