Wine and Dine 2015

Or just do the existing plan as if this week was the 8 mile week... 8.0, 9.5, 11.0, and end it with 12.5 on Week 16. You will be fine at the race even if 12.5 is the longest you go in the training.

I did not do the 14 miler for Tinker Bell and I'm not doing it again this time. I'm not exactly sure what I *am* doing for the Weeks 15 and 16 runs, since I'm offset by a week so my Week 15 would have been the 14 miler. But it's not going to be 14 miles for either of them. :) The Tinker Bell beginner plan had the last 2 long runs as 13.0 and 14.0. I did them as 13.0 and 12.1 (I had planned to just do 13.0 again and had to bail out due to blisters starting in new shoes).

I think I'll plan to do a step back on Week 15 to a medium distance run, like 6-7 miles, and do another 12.5 on Week 16 instead of the 14.0.

So since I did 6m this past week, do 8m this week (week 10)? Then 10m instead of the 11m that is scheduled for week 12, then 12 instead of the 12.5 scheduled for week 14?

That sounds right. Give yourself some mileage credit for all that theme park walking. You may only need a mile or two maintenance run here and there.

It's always better to arrive at the start line a bit under-trained than to arrive injured. You still have a little room to play with here. I would lean toward doing fewer miles, since it's your first go round and since you've struggled with injury. The unfortunate thing about injuries is that you don't always get a warning. So, there you are, broken.

I print the training program and make notes all over it. If I need to adjust I just change mileage all the way through to race day. This year I have chosen a challenging plan, for me, knowing that I might not get there uninjured.

So much this. Do not push too far, and really you will finish a half no problem with doing only 12 miles in training. I finished my first with only 9. Just not worth the risk.

I am just getting ready to run my 8 miles tomorrow. I am behind, but I think as long as I can continue to increase my mileage I should be okay.

Add me to the challenging long run weekend group. I did my 10 on Sunday, and I got through it but it was much less pleasant (?) than I had hoped. Totally all my fault tho because I did not get proper sleep th two nights before and I felt sick when I woke up so I slept in a little later than I should and as a result it was about 10 degrees hotter than it could have been. :( I also had been nursing a slight shin pain last week and didn't do my second short run. I think I could feel that difference too. But all in all, it did go a much better than my 10 and 11 milers used to go three years ago when I'd come home feeling sick and overheated. My fueling strategy is holding strong and I managed to keep my pace under control in the beginning and avoid burning out or overheating. So even tho I felt super stiff and sore for the next 24 hours I feel like it was a good run in some ways. Like many of you I can't wait for some cooler temps to move in for good. I think it was in the 80s when I finished Sunday. I am ready for fall!!!!

So this is probably a very obvious/silly question but I'm going to ask anyways so I won't have to wonder for the next 2 months! Are all the food and wine booths open for the after party? I feel like that's the whole point of the race with the after party but wanted to double check. I'm assuming all (or almost all) of the regular country food/drinks will also be available during the after party?

*sorry if this has been asked repeatedly already, I don't remember seeing it but didn't go back and reread everything either*

Just daydreaming about the after party while training! Hoping it'll motivate me to keep up with my training. I'm still struggling to stay in the groove but I'm hoping with school starting this week I'll have more time!

Yes they will be. That is the draw of the afterparty to non-race folks, food and wine kiosks open until 4am...

Finally bought my plane ticket, lol! Now, except for food and souvenirs, my trip is totally paid for! :yay:

ETA: My trip next week is totally paid for too, except for food and souvenirs! I am a majorly happy camper right now! :)

I have been struggling this week. I have been plagued with exhaustion and am under the weather today. I cannot get myself out of bed to run and haven't run in a week! I'm going to have to suck it up tomorrow because Sat is 9.5 miles! I don't want to fall behind on training so hopefully tomorrow I am feeling much better. (I thank my 3 little germ factories for being so kind as to share the wealth with me!) I am nervous about 9.5 Saturday without my maintenance runs. Hopefully my husband will run with me to help keep me motivated. And I think he's realized he does need to train!

I have been dreaming of the F&W kiosks and the bling! We made our Fast Pass reservations but are planning a lot of time at F&W after the race!

Oh, I am also thinking about changing our costumes up. What we have planned is easier to put together, but I thought my new plan might be fun. I'm contemplating making hubby a dress blues running costume and maybe doing a Rosie the Riveter/pinup girl type costume. Kind of an ode to his retirement and since we're missing his last ball to run this race. He said he'll wear whatever will make me happy, but is happy to wear normal running clothes!

:grouphug: to all who've been experiencing some rough runs lately. I totally understand and can vouch that Bad Runs Happen, but they won't all be bad! I had a shockingly good 14 miles this past week, but had to call to be picked up form my 13 two weeks earlier, it was so bad. The heat got to me and I walked most of the last 2 miles before calling for help. It was the right call. After 2 weeks of solid recovery, I ran 11 outside and 3 more on the treadmill and felt terrific. Don't stress the bad runs - do what you need to to recover and know that better times are ahead!

This may have been addressed but can't find it...I know you can leave a bag at the beginning of the race with extra clothes, etc. I'm assuming they somehow transport that stuff to the end of the race for you? My DH and I definitely want dry socks, shirts and change of shoes for after party. Should we get a locker at Epcot or is it easy to use the race bag drop off? Thanks
Bag check is so easy - I wouldn't bother with a locker. Bag pick-up was on the route from the finish into EP, so we just filed through, grabbed bags, and headed into the park. Easy!

Besides the start and finish of the 5k, are there any other areas where spectators can cheer on the runners, like maybe inside Animal Kingdom?
The only place to spectate the 5K is within the AK parking lot. No guests will be allowed into the park.

I'd go with 7 - 7.5 and maybe walk the remainder to 8 if you feel good after the 7. Adding too much mileage at once is seldom good!

I still need to get park tickets and MVMCP tickets for me and SO. Trying to decide how many park days to get. I think maybe just 3 (Fri, Sat, Mon), even though we'll be arriving on Thursday. Sunday we'll sleep in and go to MVMCP, and Thursday I guess we'll just kill time outside of the parks.

I feel a little guilty about my parents coming to watch the race. They don't live that far away, about a 2.5 hour drive, and they are coming for Thu-Fri-Sat. My mom was thinking that she could watch the start and then go see me finish. I felt bad trying to explain to her on Sunday that she wasn't going to be able to see me start. I think people have said that spectators can go to WWoS and catch a bus back to Epcot after the start? But I told her it would be really unlikely that she would be able to make me out in a sea of thousands of people. And they aren't going to the after party, because it's really late, so basically they are going to maybe catch a 30s glimpse of me waddling to the finish line. :o

Since they will be driving, I might suggest they go to the Hollywood Studios parking lot and walk over to the course and see you after you exit the Studios yet before you make it to the Boardwalk. It will give you a big boost of endorphins, your parents will be able to see you without obstructions (bleachers, chutes, tons of other spectators), you can give them sweaty hugs and even get a pic with them. Once you pass, they can drive over to Epcot and see you after you finish and get your medal and congratulate you before you enter the party. Trying to see someone cross the finish at a Disney race isn't easy unless you pay for the ChEar squad and even then the results can vary.

My SO got ChEAR squad at Tinker Bell, but I did not see anything about it on the W&D site.

I don't think ChEAR is offered at the Wine and Dine 1/2. I did a search on last years program and came up NULL. It's usually pretty bold in the Spectators tab/section on the webpage. They are pushing the party tickets instead.

Will access to the Studios parking lot be open? The Studios closing is at 8:00 pm. There may be barriers to entrance. I think your former recommendations of Yacht and Beach are a better choice for free viewing.

I'm pretty sure they can see you start and then take a bus back to Epcot. I didn't run in 2014 but I ran in 2013 and 2012 and I remember seeing people lined along the sides at the start. DH comes with me to the staging area and then leaves when we corral and goes back to enjoy the party while he waits for me. If your parents know what corral u start in they should be able to see u if u stay to one side and or text with them. Then from Epcot they can take a bus to beach club and see you at that area. I do agree that the finish line is very crowded and might be more difficult to pick them out even if they see u. But if u want to see them before you go into the party, u can meet them outside the front entrance of Epcot.
