Wine and Dine - 11 minute per milers

Ooh, can I join you guys? My goal is to finally break 2:30 (current PR is 2:33:33), but real life has gotten in the way and I've gotten in only two runs this month. I'm getting back on that horse TONIGHT -- please hold me to it! -- but I'm afraid the PR may be in jeopardy given the lack of recent training. Good news is, I did the Castaway Cay 5K on Saturday and set a personal course record of 34 minutes, putting me right in that 11-minute-mile timeframe. Just need to keep up the pace for another (ugh!) 10 miles, and I'll be golden!

Glad to have ya!

Did 5 yesterday and averaged 11.15, which is great for me. Ok, it was on a TM, but I was in Vibrams, so maybe just a weensy amount of credit for that. There's no way I'm holding onto that for 13 on the road though. Think I'm looking at 12 - 12:30.

How do you like your Vibrams? As opposed to other shoes?

Bounceliketigger? are you running the half in vibrams? Would love to know how you like them! I am going to buy a pair soon. Been running in Nike Free as a build up to barefoot style running..my hips have never been happier.

Bounceliketigger - Do you find you run slower in your vffs too? I swear my legs just can't keep going the same in mine :confused3 Oh I think I am looking at a 12-12:30 too :thumbsup2

AmyBeth - That was an awesome time for your run - good job! I know I am answering a question posted for someone else but I am running in my vibrams for the W&D - it will be my first race in them. I love them :goodvibes I was constantly injured before I got them, and now (besides a lot of muscle soreness) I am pain free :)

So I had the worst run ever this morning - barely a 14mm - I have no idea what happened out there, my legs wouldn't go, my lungs wouldn't take in air, my head wasn't even in it :confused3 I am going to blame this on the fact that I ran 10 fast miles in my vffs on Sun and my body has yet to recover :confused3 anyway I came home and made myself do crunches as a punishment - that will teach me :lmao:

Kirsty....nice job on your 10 miler...and hey recovery runs like the one you did this morning are meant to be slower :).

So glad to hear you are loving your Vibrams. Which ones did you get? The Nike Free is a good transition but not barefoot enough for me. I teach a barefoot cardio class at the gym...and I find that my legs get SO much more sore but in the end I know they are strengthening. I had so many injuries in the past, ankle, tendonitis, constant hip pain...that has all disappeared since I got out of my "stability" shoes and torched my orthotics. When I first started running in the Free shoes my calves were screaming at me too...but now I'm more used to it. I simply can't wait to try the Vibrams but they will have to wait until after W&D but plan to run in them for my next race...wherever that shall be :).

Had a good run yestereday. 4.5 miles and clocked at exactly 10 mpm...so I'm definitely zoning in on my pace. I still think I will do 11 mpm for the half...and I'm very happy with that.

Bummer...my Nike Free's killed my knee (reconstruction one) on my long run. I don't think I will be a VFF girl, but love a more minimal shoe even though my bigger body probably doesn't "qualify" me for them! LOL! (I'm not Pooh-sized anymore, but I am no running waif!)

Marathonmommy: A reconstructed knee? Wow...it's great you are running! I have to say that I'd imagine that fact means you would need a more supportive shoe for sure. You're doing great :)

Did anyone consider where to meet? Or, is that too hard to do not knowing the corrals we will be in? Are you all giving some sort of proof of time to put you in an appropriate corral, or will you wind up near the back? I am hoping that this weekend's race will give me some sort of proof of time. When I did the WDW Half, I was near the back of the corrals. I spent much of the race zig-zagging around people. It was so frustrating and I exerted so much unnecessary extra effort doing so. I am hoping this race isn't as crowded and won't have us in similar circumstances . . . but I kind of doubt it!

Marathonmommy: I think I used my last WDW Half Marathon as proof of time, which was 2:11:15 so I guess that should help determine which corral they placed me. I will most definitely not be maintaining that pace ha ha....so I have no problem switching corrals if need be. :)

Yay! I just realized I'm officially allowed to start packing! I don't know why but I feel like 2 weeks is time to start packing!

:thumbsup2 Leaving a week from today :cool1: I think I am going to be in the back of the pack, I dont have a proper proof of time...so if anyone else is back there with me let me know

I have to say Nike Frees are nothing like barefoot. They are made narrow, have little room in the toebox, & most importantly, pitch your foot forward. Regardless of your size you may want to try barefoot in a safe spot before you give up the idea of Vibrams. Of course the are a lot of varying opinions out there on this, so you have to experiment & do what works for you. I'm no skinny minnie either, but I can tell you training in Vibrams has made a world of positive difference for me. I actually wear them most of the time now! (I'm up to 3 pr!)

:yay:Meeting suggestion- baggage drop-off. :yay:

I don't know the exact lay of the land for the start point, but every race has a baggage drop before the corrals, so I think this might be a safe bet! You can drop down to a slower corral, but not up to a faster one, so for those who don't end up in the same corral, that's a thought.

:)Rm317 & AmyBeth,
Love, love, love the Vibrams! And yes, much different from shoes. You don't realize how much cushion shoes give until you go without & I'm not saying that's a good thing. Vffs give your body a sense of the ground, how hard you're hitting it, and how it impacts you. You literally end up adjusting your stride with every step until you feel the stride & landing that isn't going to hurt your body. There is a huge learning curve here: you have to land on your mid-to forefoot, rather than on your heel AND they are physically much more demanding to run in. Go for it! Your body will thank you.:flower3:

Did you gals do the Philly R&R?

And AmyBeth, I'm soooo interested to hear about your barefoot class! Boy, do I wish we were in the same neighborhood! I'd be there for sure! I'm not running the W&D in the Vffs, though I seriously considered it. It's at night so I'm a bit nervous about stepping on something or getting my toes squished. And, I do run slower in them.

Kirsty,
YES, I absolutely run slower in the Vffs. It's much tougher on the legs, I think. I'm hoping running the W&D in sneaks will help bump up my time a bit.

Wooo hooo:cool1: only 10 days!

If yall dont mind I would love to meet up with you before the race...Im sure Ill start and stay behind most of you...but itd be nice to meet some people before starting...maybe get rid of butterflies :rotfl:

Absolutely! And you'll probably not be as behind as you think;)

So I just checked out the map for the start area. The baggage check trucks, info booth, medical & the stage are all in the same sort of general area. My guess is the stage front will be pretty packed & probably not a great area to meet. In front of the bag check trucks could work, or we could go with my personal last minute race favorite, in front of the porta potties! lol:rotfl2:

Thoughts everyone?
:grouphug:
