Wine and Dine - 11 minute per milers

So I just checked out the map for the start area. The baggage check trucks, info booth, medical & the stage are all in the same sort of general area. My guess is the stage front will be pretty packed & probably not a great area to meet. In front of the bag check trucks could work, or we could go with my personal last minute race favorite, in front of the porta potties! lol:rotfl2:

Thoughts everyone?
:grouphug:

Didn't know there was a map of the start area! Will have to check it out today! Thanks!

Bib #1244

Do these correlate to corrals?

#4140 here. I seriously doubt these correspond to corrals. I think they actually correspond to the order in which folks registered. @ the ToT & Princess there were bib #s all over the map in my corral...

According to Coach Charles, they do correspond to the corrals.

That would suck because I am 8022! Can I get my corral changed so I can be closer to you all and we can start together? I wouldn't want anyone to have to start in the back with me. I spent so much of January's race trying to zigzag around everyone - even up until the end! So much wasted effort...

Yeah, just bring your Philly time printout to the expo. That should put you in the first corral.

Amy (roomthreeseventeen) : What was your estimated finish time? I have feeling the bibs may be based on finish. I either had 2:00 or 2:10...pipe dream now but at the time of registration that's where I thought I'd be.

Marathonmommy: Yes...bring your Philly printout and tell them you are running with a group...they should allow you to switch corrals I think :goodvibes.

2:08. Total pipe dream now. I'm hoping I can improve my 2:20 a bit to 2:17/2:18.

Coach here...

What was you Philly time? Even if you are only able to get into Carral B you will be good to go. Any A runners could slide to the back of A (would not want too far up in A anyway) and the B runners could sneak up to the front of B You are only seperated by the temprary fencing. In the event of individual wave starts for each corral, the A corral runners could hang in front of the B coral and just not start. Or everyone could just go in B and slide forward to the front and have free reign at the start.

It is my guess that 1800-2000 are A corrals and B through 4000.

Finally, a great place to meet would be the sidewalk that heads up to the WWoS from the parking lot. It is the the lighter colored bar map left with all the double circles (trees in real life). My old guy running group is meeting near the globe at the entrance.

My Philly time was 2:32:27 . . . was hoping for better but my knee gave me big problems. Coach - do you think this time will get me out of the last corral?

My guess a Solid B.... Remember, the seeding contains times from 1:20ish through 3:30 then thos with no time behind that. A plot of typical Disney finish times has more runners slower than 2:30 that faster. For example the average finish time in the 2010 half was 2:37 and 2:35 in 09. For the 09 race you would have finished around 6050 out of 12451 at your Philly pace.

Bring a 10k time also if you have one. Disney will use their formula for predicted times.

I think their formula is VERY optimistic. I put my 10k PR (which, granted is old, from June) in McMillian and it predicted a 2:17:00 half, which is probably what I would have ended up with in Philly if conditions had been a bit better. I definitely wasted more than 3 minutes on the course.

With the same 10k time, Disney predicted a 2:08.

I just don't see how that could be the case, but whado I know :confused3. It wouldn't make sense--suppose you're the 1st person to sign up & you anticipate a 16mm finish--are they going to arbitrarily assign you like a #8000 & something? On the other hand, Firedancer is fast & I think he's #64. But i'd guess he signed up early on too.

Frank, what say you?

Frank probably doesn't check out our "11 Minute Mile" thread! LOL! Coach just hangs with us middle-packers to give advice! :thumbsup2

I just need to keep it all in perspective. I was a definite back of the packer in January. I was promoted...

Ahhhh! This formula makes sense! Thanks CoachJ

% agree- lets meet by the globe!

Sorry but I answered the other thread also....

To answer your question the half and full distance races are set by you estimated times, not date of entry. Why would you arbitrarily put a 3.5 hour half marathoner in the same mix as a 1:10 half marathoner? It just does not make sense, does it? Disney spends lots of $$ to set up these silly corrals to keep the back of pack folks out of the way of the really serious folks; and even the mid pack runners. This is a common way to corral and seed folks so that you pass the fewest folks during the race. The goal is to have the 1:15 guys run together the entire race; the 2 hour folks run together from the start and well as the 3.5 hour folks.

Disney will create a corral that holds between 1000 and 3000 runners. In recent years they have launched in waves so that the early corrals leave while the hold the later corrals. Frankly RNR folks are the master of this. Their corrals (again seeded by speed or estimated times) are 1000 strong. The first corral is for runners 1-1000, second 1001 – 2000, …. 15th 14001-15000, all the way to the end. Jon (the Disney RD has elected to follow more of the Marine Corp Marathon wave where you launch big chunks of the race at once. This does keep the course not as crowded, but nothing like the RNR races.

The TOT and 5 k races are assigned somewhat by date of entry from possibly 100 up. The low numbers still reserved for the elites.

Hope this makes sense.
