Will We End Up Ruining Free Dining?

Have you already made a ressie during the free dining promo being offered to the UK?

  • Yes -- I made the ressie and will cancel if the promo isn't offered.

  • I made the ressie but will go whether the promo is offered or not.

  • I'm just eagerly waiting for the offer and will reserve as soon as it's made available.

  • You couldn't pay me to visit WDW during the weeks free dining is offered.

I keep wondering how many people are going to ruin the chance of US residents being offered free dining due to everyone making ressies during the time the plan has been offered to the UK. I would bet there are thousands of people that have made plans with the intent to cancel if free dining isn't offered and they can't add the promo to their existing ressie. Come on folks...fess up. :teeth:

Never thought about it like that. We just got back and had the free dining. We are not going back until 2011 but if we would be going back next year I would probably had already booked in hopes of getting it again.

See, that's what I'm concerned about. I feel like everyone is so excited about the chance of free dining again in '07 that they are making ressies which will drive the occupancy rate up enough that the plan won't be offered. Then, when everyone starts cancelling at the last possible moment, it may be too late to secure other travel arrangements. I am hoping that the people doing this will realize they are just shooting themselves in the foot. FWIW, I haven't made any ressies yet and don't intend to until something official is announced.

This is my fear too! We would love to go for MNSSHP again and if they offer free dining then we will. If not, MVMCP, here we come!!!
I intend on waiting for the promo to be offered and not make my ressie until then! :wizard:

Also, another fear is that the same people booking in hopes of free dining will also be making multiple ADRs which will give the restaurant false "occupancy" rates as well. :sad2:

Wow - that's pretty cool. I didn't realize that free dining was offered so far in advance for overseas travelers. Has this always been the case?

You couldn't pay me to do it. I like my lines short, and my restaurants quiet (relatively, that is).

I hope this isn't a problem! This past year free dining was offered 3/28 (roughly, to the Visa holders, right?) We probably wouldn't go until the end of September anyway so most 180 ADRS's (for us at least) would just be underway...
Oh well, we may decide that we love Christmastime so much this year that even the lure of free dining may not convince us to give up December!

I believe this is the first year it's been available this early. Who knows, if enough people in the UK respond (Lucky Duckys!) there might not be a promo for the US anyway. Also, they were required to purchase a min. ticket of five days, whereas before you only had to get a 1 day ticket to qualify for the package...don't know if that will be a requirement for US packages as well.

Good point Cinder! That makes me feel a little better about ADR availability. Of course, if we are fortunate enough to take advantage of any promos, my family will need to go in August as DD starts high school next year and I don't think I can pull her out for a whole week (our schools starts the Tuesday after Labor Day).

That's when our schools start too- but DS is just in pre-school so I don't have to worry....yet.

I don't want to ruin the chances of the offer. I am patiently waiting, in other words. HOWEVER...I will (crosses fingers) graduate Nursing School in May, and before accepting a job anywhere, I want my vacation booked so that I can still take one. That was the deal I made with DH,so it will be a condition of employment. IF there is no free dining yet, when I am getting down to deciding on a new job, I WILL go ahead and book. Important to note : We will take that vacation with or without free dining.

This all depends on finances over the next months, too, though.

It does not, from alot of the threads I have read, seem that people are booking "just in case" it is offered again. I have seen alot to the contrary. People seem to be leery that Disney will offer it 3 years in a row, regardless of the fact that it is being offered now to the UK or not, so they are hesitant to book.

I went during free dining this year 9/29-10/6 at POP and it was awesome! The following Tuesday after I got back I booked WL with dining for the same time next year. Free dining would be a fantastic bonus, but my reason for booking right now are simple.

We have always wanted to stay at WL, booking early and making payments gives me more time to pay it off.

We loved the Dining option and ate at places we would never got to eat at and decided we would pay for it even if it wasn't free.

DD and DS have fall break the first week of October and we love this time of year at WDW.

Good luck to all of you!!

Denise

There's always the chance, too, that enough people will move to the UK to qualify for free dining that the whole island will tip over and sink.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

I have 2 reasons for not booking yet. I have 2 upcoming trips, one in Jaunuary and one in March. So I'm waiting for those trips to be paid for.
my other reason is, I haven't offically picked my dates. 2006-we went Aug 27-Sept 5. My b-day is Aug 28th, My dad's b-day is Sept 13, so we're thinking of going for his birthday last year, but it'll be my 21st, so it's tempting to go for my birthday again, so I can have my first drink in Epcot. But I wasn't fan of the crowds before school starts back. But We'll have to wait and see, it maybe a solo trip, if my dad doesn't want to take vacation next year.(he took his first one in 6 years for our trip this year).

:lmao: Very funny!

Seriously though, we have reservations for 8/21/07-9/1/07 but I had planned on those dates due to the the cruise we're taking after WDW, not necessarily on free dining. But the offer it I'll end up switching my room only to the package.

I probably won't be going back to WDW after January for quite a while, free dinning or not.

I'm booked for August, but it's not in anticipation of free dining. It's in anticipation of my birthday, which happens the same time every year :thumbsup2 . I also booked while DH was in a cooperative mood :rotfl: .
