Will we bored if...

Will we be bored if we don't get off at Freeport for the day? Will we have just as much fun on board the ship? We just found out our 2003 cruise will be stopping in Freeport and we don't want to pay for any excursions. Thank you.

I've heard that the best time to really enjoy the ship are the days that they are in port. A lot less crowded. We are staying on board to explore the ship on our Key West day. We'll only get off for a couple of hours to do a bit of shopping. I have a 14yr old DD and her only request is that we shop at each stop.

We had a wonderful day staying on the ship in Freeport. We were not bored at all. I did wander off the ship for a half hour or so to the liitle "Straw Market" at the dock area. Nothing too exciting there, but I couldn't resist the lure of the pastel buildings and those same old t-shirts, coconut heads and straw baskets

I loved being on the ship when it was docked. My girls enjoyed the pool so much more without the regular crowd. This time we are getting off at each stop on the Western cruise because we have never been to any of these places before, so we might not get to enjoy the ship when it isn't crowded. But we only plan to go to 2-3 hours worth of excursions each time so we still have time on the ship as well.

Snowball, I might be reading this wrong because it's late-but you don't have to pay for any excursions to get off the ship in any port. We did not pay for any excursions on our cruise, but we checked out the sites in each port. As other posters said, it is also a good time to enjoy a less crowded ship.

Reinforcing what hokie5cruiser said... there is no charge to leave the ship at any port of call. That is a common misconception of first-time cruisers because common wisdom is that buying the excursions at ports of call can run up your expenses (and they do), but you don't have to book them in order to leave the ship.
