Will WDW get a real coaster

I some people are underwhelmed by 7DMT. It is what it is, a family coaster in Fantasy Land. But it does seem that WDW lovers are hungry for another coaster (ala Rockin' Roller Coaster).

Do you think WDW will add one? If so, where does it fit?

I'm wondering if we might see one in Avatar Land...

Ask yourself how would a "real" coaster fit into Disney's vision and theme'ing? Also, how would it draw income from their target audience?

I would offer that Disney isn't trying to compete with SixFlags and Universal. Instead, SixFlags and Universal are trying to compete with Disney. Disney has content (shows, characters, movies, etc). Everything Disney does is tied together and provides an overall great, and re-enforcing, experience. They push their brands (Cars, Toy Story, etc) to the max...doing so makes the guest experience better and creates more opportunity for income. Win/Win.

That said, Avatar land will likely require an advanced ride design to fit the theme'ing..aka, similar to Potter at Universal.

I would love some more thrill-type rides added to HS. Personally I think that park can handle it/desperately needs it. It would breathe new life back into it :)

I'm not sure I agree that WDW lovers are hungry for another coaster. I think there are way more WDW lovers that are hungry for attractions that everybody can go on and enjoy, not just thrill lovers. popcorn::

I get so tired of this argument. It holds no water. Not everyone can go on Splash, Space, Big Thunder, R'n'R, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Kali, Everest, Test Track, Mission Space, or even Soarin, 7DMT, and Primeval Whirl.

In addition to that, despite being ABLE to, there are many rides and attractions many people don't WANT to go on, like the carousel, barnstormer, Aladdin's carpet, ETWB and other Princess M&G, probably several FL rides. I could go on and on with this list as it's completely subjective.

So there are already plenty of rides little kids can't go on. And plenty of rides specifically for little kids. If you're already making rides they can't go on, why not make one thrill seekers will LOVE? According to this thread, and every time this topic comes up, Disney's target audience is EVERYONE. Everyone that is, except the trill seeker.

Absalutely!!!! What they need is more family rides, continuous loaders that the whole family can enjoy and that can accommodate several hundred riders an hour.

Disney is a park for everyone, yes. And it is mostly a park for families. It wants to provide a family atmosphere. It doesn't want to attract hordes of roaming teenagers. I saw a much larger amount of teenagers at Universal last year than I did at Disney. And that doesn't necessarily give a good vibe to everyone. Disney doesn't need another coaster. Thrill seekers can hop over to Universal or their local Six Flags if that's what they're looking for, because that's not who Disney needs to cater to.

I think this thread should be called "Will WDW get any more real coasters?" As they definitely have at least two that satisfy thrill junkies. But I agree that lines for RnRc speak for themselves. Hoping for something that flips for Avatar and goes fast! A lot of people do tend to complain that at USO, their kids and families have to split up or skip a lot due to the height restrictions so some avoid USO because of that, which Disney definitely doesn't want. We had to split our group up at SW for Manta too but wow! Kracken and Manta easily belong at Cedar Point with their caliber of rides. Manta may be in my top 3 ever ride experiences!

There are still lots of run rides and a few fast ones at WDW, but they do need to add a few more. EP needs something in addition to TT and Soarin (clearly as those are the two everyone fights over there), but Everest at AK, Space Mountain at MK and RnRc at HS aren't a bad start. ToT too has a place for us.

But dude. Gotta try Manta. NEVER experienced anything like it.

IF they ever do one, it seems that Star Wars Land would be a good fit.

Agreed :thumbsup2
There are 4 parks, it would be nice if the used just one of them to cater to families who are thrill seekers a little better. Put something in Epcot for goodness sake that place is a snoozefest when it comes to rides.
I always see people say "Disney is for families", but the truth is they are for young families not families like mine that have older kids/teens who want something more exciting. We've been going for years but its gotten to the point where my kids are just bored with the same old same old there.
Thankfully there are other options that are for our family.

Yep.
There are only about 175 scenes in the movie franchise that would lend themselves to a thrill ride or coaster, don't you think? Everyone seems to be caught up in the theme-ing issue of a coaster. I don't think there's a better themed one than The Mummy. Something similar along the SW theme would be amazing! My 8 year-old loves it!

I think the Mummy is a great ride (Orlando version is better than Hollywood one though), and that kind of system would be great for Disney, but I'm not sure it's what coaster enthusiasts would call a "real coaster." I know that definition is suggestive, but other than being fast, Mummy is not super intense (great theming though, love the fire!).

I could see a place for another "real" coaster in DHS, DAK or maybe even Epcot. A flying-style coaster similar to SW's Manta could fit in well at DAK with a Scar theme (e.g., chasing/running/pouncing) or a dino-bird (pterodactyl?) theme. At DHS, both Star Wars (speeder bike theme, which would also allow for the type of coaster not yet in Orlando) and Pixar (standing coaster themed around the Incredibles or hanging coaster themed around Monsters Inc. doors). Epcot has had a Mt. Fuji coaster in Japan rumored for a long time, although I would argue that Future World needs a lot more help than World Showcase.

I can understand the family-friendly need, but let's face it, DHS could use any help it can get, and there is plenty of space there (if you're willing to replace a couple of existing duds like Backlot Tour) for a thrill ride or two along with some more family-friendly stuff. There is room for both. With Avatar hopefully giving DAK a boost relatively soon, I'm desperately hoping they eventually give DHS some much-needed love.

If RnRC meets your definition of a "real" coaster, then I can imagine it. But, I'm not sure where or when. Studios seems like it is next up for some attention, but it is already thrill-heavy, relatively speaking.

I would like to see a clone of Crush's Coaster at the Paris Studios come to the US, though...fun ride!

The ceiling of fire :thumbsup2

You're right about what coaster enthusiasts might think of the Mummy. But, I tend to agree with those that don't think Disney will put a bare, unthemed 'coaster at WDW - it's just not in their DNA. A "Mummy-esqe" ride would be a good compromise and is much needed and a great SW fit.

SheiKra accommodates 24 riders per train...plenty of capacity.
