Will the Maelstrom Replacement Follow the Same Route or Will it be All New?

Somebody mentioned how slow the loading process is. Does anybody have a figure on ride capacity per hour? I can't believe they decided to keep the boat ride as the ride vehicle when a continuous loader like HM or Buzz could truck the people through. Of course, I realize a boat ride will be more fun for the few who get on the ride, but geez, these lines will dwarf the 7 Dwarf mine train. And the available FP could be snatched up by 12:01 am every night at the 60 day mark. Better book a LONG stay at a resort if you want to ride this one.

So the new "Frozen" ride will be in water?? Elsa freezes the lake solid in the movie. I wonder what the story-line will be...

The path of the ride is essentially along the same track, HOWEVER, where the old loading area used to be will now be a scene on the ride, this will likely slightly increase the duration of the ride. In addition to this, considering that they rebuilding the entire ride from scratch, it will likely feel very different from Maelstrom even though the track layout will be about the same..

I am going to put it out there... I am actually looking forward to the Frozen attraction. Yes, Disney have milked Frozen way too much at the parks and yes I loved Maelstrom (LOVED IT) but so long as they incorporate Norwegian history and culture into the area I think the area will still be holding true to the original purpose of World Showcase.

Except Frozen doesn't take place in Norway. I know that this ship has sailed, (pun intended), but I think that as one of Disney's biggest smash hit animated movies, it deserves a bigger, longer treatment in Fantasyland. This makeover attraction tucked away in World Showcase seems rather pedestrian given the position that Frozen now holds in the Disney pantheon. Just my opinion.

Darn it!That means any hope of The Spirit of Norway being saved for future generations to cherish is gone!lol;)

This sign was once the most welcome news at WDW!lol;)

That movie is probably in my Top Ten Things I Like(d) at Disney World!! I love it and made everyone sit through it every time. I probably got it from my parents, who also love this movie. We are hoping an educational film is still incorporated into the new ride - maybe about the landscape and culture of Scandinavia inspiring the writers and animators of Frozen?

But add in the large meet and greet building and Frozen is basically getting its own LAND in Epcot.

But it will be a really, really tiny land. One that has already proven incapable of handling the meet and greet crowds so much so that they had to abandon ship and relocate to the MK. I am really curious to see how they intend to absorb the crowd that they were incapable of absorbing before. By comparison, look at how much space is devoted to Beauty and the Beast in the MK. There is an entire courtyard, restaurant, etc.

This.. The expansion is so large that it wouldn't surprise me if some people refer to this new area as "Frozen land" or "the land next to Norway" .. I just really hope that what remains of the original Norway pavilion will retain it's cultural integrity and in someway be integrated into the new side of the pavilion without feeling disconnected or artificial..

Some already call Norway "Froway".:)

With the large meet and greet building on the left and the Frozen ride in the "back" of the Pavilion,Frozen merchandise all over Puffin's Roost, etc.,the Pavilion is going to "feel" like a 'Frozen Land" imho.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Akershus go to a "Frozen theme" at some point.

That would make too much sense.

I think it's a bit too late for that, personally. My heritage is Norwegian, and it was sad to see how much of the pavilion was more Arendelle than it was Norway. I don't expect the new ride or m&g building to make that better.

I agree-I can't see how the Pavilion is going to "feel" like ANYTHING but "Frozen Land".

Eh. They added 1.08 acres to Norway which is mainly a 13,000 sq. ft. building for the meet and greet. That is a pittance compared to what Belle and the Beast got in the Magic Kingdom. But more importantly, the Beauty and the Beast expansion of FL complements what existed in the Magic Kingdom whereas Froway fights against what exists at Epcot.

That movies has been uploaded to youtube. Granted its not the same as watching it in the auditorium.

Will we be able to kind of gage the opening for the ride based on when they begin making FP selections available for it?

I think the point is that the footprint of Norway in its entireity including The Royal Summerhaus is comparable,if not larger than the ETWB,BOG,Gaston's Tavern footprint.

The ENTIRETY of Norway IS going to "feel" like "Frozen Land"IMHO.

They wanted to do this ride as quickly and as cheap as possible so thats what you get.

It will add maybe 30 seconds to the ride. The boats themselves are relatively the same as well so the capacity should be about the same.
