As a family, we have never pool hopped...........but having the option always felt good to me!!

Now that OKW is getting a slide...........what do you think about this privelege being stopped??? And would it really bother you?? I wonder, how many actually pool hop??

I don't think it will really effect my family since we have yet to pool hop..............but may just try it next month for the heck of it!!!

I tried to make this a poll but couldn't!!!

Thanks

There has been no annoucement of the end of pool hopping. It wouldn't effect me if there was though.

Actually I have only pool hopped once. Last year while staying @ BCV while DH took DSIL to the emergency room me & DBIL popped over to Luna Park to let the kids play on that slide......

Ok I was being lazy and didn't want to keep having to walk them over to the slide @ SAB.

Outside of that incident, it wouldn't effect me at all.

I've done it a few times, CS and GF mostly, it's a nice perk that doesn't cost Disney anything. As it's a "non cost" item I don't see why you think a slide at OKW would result in the removal of the perk. BCV,AWL and BWV all have slides yet their memberships come with pool hopping.
I guess it does depend on how much time you spend around your own hotel pool, if it's only one day out of a vacation then it's unlikely to interest you, if you'd spend 3,4 or 5 afternoons around a pool it makes a nice break to take the kids somewhere else. JMHO.

We haven't pool hopped yet, but we are definately slowing down as park commandos. We are looking forward to hopping in the future. Our next trip may be in January, so depending on the weather, we might not get a chance to pool hop for some time to come.

I think they are building the slide because pool hopping is going to end. That way people staying at OKW would still have access to a pool with a slide if pool hopping was eliminated.

I also think they are building it to help market OKW for non-members to stay at. They have rooms to rent when members trade out plus the rooms DVD owns. I think the pictures that Doc posted will attract non-members to stay there.

I don't necessarily think that is true, Debbie. OKW has plenty of folks staying there. We have not seen an empty resort in many a trip. I think it is to keep OKW folks from using SSR's new pool/slide when it opens. I can see DVC ending pool hopping to another DVC resort but maybe allowing hopping to non-DVC resorts.

I generally don't pool hop...did it once when I was at OKW and we went to BW's Luna Park. If they ended pool hopping, I don't know that it would bother me at all.

I hate to lose any perk since we have so few of them. The loss of pool hopping wouldn't be devastating since I have yet to use it -- half the time I barely make it to the pool of the resort where I am staying. ;)

I don't see where building the slide at OKW necessarily signals the end of pool hopping. I think it's something Disney has wanted to do for a long time to make the resorts consistent. They decided that now is the time to do it. The slide might also help keep any "hopping" between OKW and SSR on a more even keel.

Oh well, seems like the members are usually the last to know when it comes to DVC. ;)

We have never pool hopped, and likely never will.
What I think is a real problem is pool 'crashers', not pool 'hoppers'. I have heard folks in the VWL jacuzzi who were not even staying on Disney property.

The jacuzzi was full, so my wife and I didn't go in because of guests that were staying off-site.

Since we've yet to make our first trip "home", we've never pool-hopped. :) However, if we lost that perk it wouldn't be a big loss for us; I've never understood the appeal - at least to adults. While a nice pool is a must for DW and I, we're usually in a lounge chair reading, getting up now and then to soak ourselves - so pool variety is no big benefit. Of course, we're going to have High Rock Springs - great theme, beautiful look, and no freakin' nightmare clowns! ;)

I do think that the OKW slide will make it easier (less painful) for DVC to cancel pool-hopping - and I agree w/MG above; a few dozen DVCers hopping isn't a problem, a few hundred crashers is (we experienced this at the Polynesian last fall).

I've wondered the same thing. Although we've never pool hopped so it won't really matter to us. I am happy about the slide at OKW though----going there next year with 3 little girls and one little boy who are going to LOVE IT!

(MG read your PM's please!-sorry Doc!:( )

Maistre Gracey you are absolutely right!! When I stayed at WL the first year it opened, we had a rather large group of FL residents who lived nearby sitting at the pool. They said they do this all the time, it's great!!!

And here I was thinking, WOW this vacation is costing me a fortune and they are just crashing the pool!!!???!?!?!?!?

We love to pool-hop and would be sad if the perk was discontinued. It was a real selling point for us with DVC and it would bug me if they took it away. I know they are legally able to remove it, but it would still bug me.

We love to visit the MK resorts to rent speedboats. We do this every trip, and we usually have a lunch as well. We also use the pool for an hour or two. Typically we go to the Poly for all this fun, but this past trip we went to Coronado Springs. Again, we always "spend" if that matters! :) I have never visited a pool that was super-crowded, and if it was real busy, we'd just go back to our own resort and swim there. But we really enjoy visiting "different" pools.

::yes:: It drives me crazy that in almost every "Guide to WDW" I've read, that particular "key to staying offsite" - "tip" is mentioned...you know, leave your stuff in the lockers at the MK - so you don't have to go back to your car at the TTC - and take the Monorail or boats to the MK Resorts, and enjoy the pool...don't forget your beach towel!!

When I write mine;), I'm leaving that one out...and putting in the stay at the offsite hotel where you want to swim!!;) ;)

And yes, the privelege to pool hop as a member was enticing to us too...the lack of pool hopping to BCV was one of the reasons we bought there, and weren't willing to take a chance on a 7thmonth window at a small resort with a really great pool:D

:sunny:

We pool hop every trip and are always careful to follow the posted guidelines (ie calling ahead). We enjoy the change of scenery and hop to places based on what else we have planned for the day, like to the Poly for a swim and speedboats on the lake. I hope they continue this privilege as I agree it is a no cost perk.

I don't think the two are related. I think the PH days are numbered with or without a slide at OKW. It's only a matter of time. At this point it's already such a hassle as to make it not worth it for most people, IMO.

I also think that pool hopping days are numbered. But I also think the addition of a slide at OKW is definitly related to the stopping of PH. It seems like tooooooooooo much of a coincidence for Disney to be adding a slide at OKW now, after all these years and also the whole way they have handled this slide addition from the beginning; for it not to be tied into PH.
I am not saying the stopping of PH was the only reason Disney decided to add a slide to OKW, but I think it was definitely a factor in this decision.

Hi all ...

I was wondering if someone could please tell me where I might find pictures of the new slide (or drawings, plans, etc.). I had heard that it was to be completed by late summer '04 ... is that true? Any info. would be appreciated. We have been members for 10 years now (having loved every second!) and look forward to this for my kids. I do, however, hope that they keep pool hoping as a member benefit.

Thanks!

I don't think a slide at OKW will affect it. I do think that if guest complaints continue it could be stopped.

If you read the present thread on the resort board many feel pool hopping has gotten out of hand and needs to stop.

As DVC members we don't know pool hop so it won't bother us if they stop it.

If it will prevent overcrowding of pools such as the Polynesian pool, I am all for it.
