I'm getting a gerbil and i wanna know ( to those people who have gerbils and cats ) if my cat will eat my gerbil(s) im worried sick that my cat might eat my gerbils cause he likes to eat rats and everything! is there a special kind of thing i could keep my gerbils in incase my cat tries to get them? HELP! :earseek:

I don't have a gerbil, but I do have a cat. If you get a wire cage for the gerbil then he/she will be fine. As long as you don't let him/her out unsupervised. Make sure the cage is close AT ALL TIMES. They also have plastic balls that you can put the gerbil in so they can run around the house. Again supervise at all times! Keep it away from the stairs when the gerbil is in it. If you are careful, you should have no problems. My uncle had a guinea pig. He kept it in one of the bedrooms with 2 (at one time, 3) cats. The guinea pig stayed in the cage and one of the cats laid on top of the cage. Neither one of the cats bothered the guinea pig.

my cat's got my hamsters (rip leland and charlie) but for some reason they won't go after my brother's hamster Catfood, so I don't know what to tell you. What we do to prevent it because I now have hermit crabs that my one cat likes is we close the door and keep them out of the room.

We keep our gerbils in glass reptile tanks (look like 10-gallon fish tanks) with sturdy wire mesh covers. Cats are pretty smart. Make sure she can't get the cover off or bye-bye gerbils.

Poor Gerbies :(

yur cat might eat them cause i hav a cat and i did hav gerbles and my cat did try 2 eat them.just keep yur cat away from the gerble and yur gerbles will b just fine

i used to have 2 gerbils and my cats tried to get them at first...but after a while they got used to them and didnt try to bother em

I went to the petstore today and looked at the gerbils. I saw two males and thats exactly what i wanted. they were in the same cage and didnt bother each other. I think they were babies cause they were way smaller than the palm of your hand! cute! and one of the gerbils was on the wheel and one was sleeping. they were cheap too. they were $9.00 each. but still worried bout my cat!

You are gonna have so much fun with your gerbils! :cool1: Be sure you handle them every day, but don't let them fall on the floor. They can braek bones and suffer internal injuries. And don't pick them up by their tails--the tail will break away.

Don't give them any food other than the dry stuff from the pet store. Gerbils are desert animals--they require only a little water. If they get too much water(from food, unsanitary bedding, etc.) they will get sick and die. Give them a wheelie to run in and a toilet roll tube and they will entertain you all night! Better than TV. :goodvibes
