Total Knee Replacement - Your Experience

Rothman? My hip and both knees done by Rothman. I have heard good things about Virtua orthopedics as well.
Yes. Dr. Alvin Ong at Rothman. He's known in the area as the guy you go to if you need a joint replaced. I know so, so many people that had hips or knees replaced by him, and they've all had positive experiences. I've never heard a bad word about the man. I'm now 3+ years out from my knee replacement, and aside from it occasionally getting stiff on rainy/cold days, I have zero problems with it.

I don't know where you live, but if you're in the South Jersey area, let me know, and I'll send you to the right guy. The surgeon that replaced my knee has a reputation of being the doctor to go to for joint replacements, and there's a reason why.
Who's your doctor? Would love to know his name.

I had Dr. James Purtill and very satisfied. He replaced my hip 9 years ago and both knees 3 years ago.

I'm jumping in here (glad this thread was revived with recent activity). Dr. told me a year ago that I am five years from a TKR. My first thought was that I have five years to get better and not need it.

One year since that diagnosis and some days, I have no problems, other days, not so good. Of course I'm exploring all the options -- Did PT for six weeks to learn some exercises, joined a range of motion water class at the local Y (bonus, heated pool), working on weight loss, signed on with a fitness trainer at the Y, taking collagen type II, etc.

I'll be going to WDW in April and a cruise in June, and already have reserved a scooter because, even if my knee feels okay, I no longer have the stamina I had in Dec. 2024 (when I walked WDW for ten days, almost no problem). Any other tips or tricks or things to avoid that I should know about?

My TKR (left knee) is scheduled for August 3rd, so I’ll try to remember to let everyone know how it went. My right knee will get replaced next year.

I found out 7 years ago, at 46 years old, that they both need to be replaced. After every excuse in the book to not do it, I finally decided that I ran out of excuses and it’s time to finally take the leap and get it done (and my DH said he’s buying me a scotter if I don’t - LOL!)

I’m excited and I’m nervous at the same time. I’m very active, so I’m hoping and praying that once these knees get replaced and healed, I can start training for my third 1/2 marathon - doing the Disney half is a dream of mine and has been for a long time now. One wise man once said - if you can dream it, you can do it.
