We are going this weekend and always thought Epcot might be enjoyed by kids a little older. What are your opinions?

Future World offers quite a few rides and attractions.

World Showcase has a couple of smaller rides. You can get your child a passport. That passport is taken to each of the lands to collect stamps and handwritten messages written in the language of the land. Makes a great souvenir.

My youngest is 8. We will be going for our 5th time next month. He has liked Epcot from the first year we attended. You just have to know your own child and help them enjoy the park by finding things that will appeal to them.

If you haven't done Epcot before, I wouldn't skip it with an 8 year old. They should be fine.

Test Track, Honey I shrunk the Audience, Jorney into the Imagination, Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Soarin Disney's newest ride, these are just a few of the rides your 8 yr old will enjoy. My children always enjoyed EPCOT no matter what age they were. They even enjoyed all of the Countries where they could shop. Especially Japan where they have all the candy! :sunny:

My boys, 8, 6 and 3 all love Epcot. They have been going for several years and it is one of their favorites. First, you have the three big rides (if she likes rides), Mission Space, Test Track and the new Soarin. Soarin and Test Track are not to be missed. Also, Innoventions have some pretty cool things to do inside, like make and race a virtual robot, play games, etc. In the World Showcase, there are stops in every country called Kidcot Fun Stops. It is neat to try and find them in each country (some of them are kind of hidden). At these stops the kids can make a mask that they take around the "world" to complete. Coloring the mask, having the stick stamped like a passport, and having a different ornament added to the mask at each stop around the world. My boys have at least three each. You can also buy a passport (for about $10) that she can take around and have stamped at each of the countries.

Don't even get me started on all the great food.

There are wonderful live performers (Chinese acrobats, Candy lady in Japan, etc.) that she is sure to enjoy.

Epcot is my favorite park and I think your niece should definately have a great time there. Give it a whirl

My, now eight year old, is mad because we are not going to Epcot in two weeks. We just don't have the time because it is a side trip and my second oldest has never been to the Maic Kingdom. He really enjoys Epcot and has for years.

My son (now 9) loves epcot but only if he gets a lot of free time to spend in innoventions with all the computer games, he heasn't done test track yet but will in a few weeks and he's looking forward to soarin' he also loves spaceship earth and the japanese yu-gi-oh cards they sell in the japan store.

Another Epcot loving family here. Epcot has become the park we spend more and more time at. My kids love Epcot!! Tons of stuff at innoventions to do, My son loves the dinosaurs in Ellens Energy Adventure. They arent scary there like in DINOSAUR at AK. We love roaming the countries. There is the boat ride in Mexico. My son loves seeing the volcano in there. Norway was a ride, plus a huge troll statue that is an annual picture spot for us. There is also a big Viking boat outside they can play on. We love catching the clock striking the hour in Germany. Japan has the candy lady at certain times, we HAVE to eat counter service in China!! You can go in and see The American Adventure in American. In Canada we always stop and see Off Kilter. The kids love that as much as the adults too. United Kingdom is a favortie stop for us as well. The British Invasion plays back there. The kids can see Mary Poppins and Pooh & friends inside. There is also a fun hedge maze the kids play in. Its around the stage. FUN! gERMANY also has a mini train set up outside. The kids always have to stop and see that. So many performers, just walking around seeing the sites, browsing the stores, and eating and drinking makes walking the countries our favorite thing!! You son can do the mask, he can buy a pass port and have that stamped and written in at every country. Oh.. and our new thing to do.. collect pressed pennies!!!
Check out Crush the turtle in the living seas!! There is a character bus that stops at certain places throughout the day. Mickey is always there along with about 8-10 other characters. And dont forget to stay for Illuminations at the end of the day! Awesome show!! We love Epcot!!

All kids are different, but plenty of kids enjoy Epcot. My little ones (younger than yours) enjoyed the shows in the countries - and Spaceship Earth may be among my daughters favorite rides. They also have a mask activity for kids in the countries. You color the mask and add a "token" from each country. I think my mother in law had the most fun with that one.

I am 32 and I HATE World showcase in EPCOT yawn, yawn, what a total bore. The only thing that got me through it was that each country sells booze ( and normally I am not a drinker). My 5 y/o cried because she was so bored. Now she is 7 and just asked the other day if we HAVE to go there again. I told her very quickly NO, we are definatley not going this trip.
Future World is okay, they have a few really good rides and a few very boring rides. If it was not for Test Track we would probably entirley skip EPCOT. Instead we will do an EMH and go only to Mission Space, Soar, and Test Track and then head to a different park.

Our kids love Epcot. Our DS7 loves Future World, we have a hard time getting him out of Innoventions. Our DD9 says Epcot is her favourite park. She could spend several days going through the World Showcase. On our upcoming trip in December we are alotting 3 days to tour Epcot so everybody gets to see their favourite parts, especially since there is so many extra Christmas activities to take in.

My son has always enjoyed EPCOT! He is now 9.5 and it's one of his favorite parks. If you have fun, your kids' will have fun.

In "The Land" pavillion at Epcot in Future World there are three more things to do besides Soarin':

1) Junior Chef (no additional cost, this activity is included in your Epcot admission) ... the children receive a personalized paper chef hat, mix up a batch of chocolate chip cookies which are baked in a "magic oven" and then given to them (2 cookies that are actually baked by Disney...because of health codes they throw away the dough that is mixed up by the kids). This is a prime photo op for picture taking parents...and is for children aged 4-12, although I think older 3 year olds who listen well are often included.

2) "Listen To the Land" boat ride. I went a few days ago and at this time they have the giant pumpkins as well as the ones shaped like Mickey (still growing on the vines). The banana bushes are loaded with fruit and the cotton plants have fluffy white bolls on them as well as flowers! The alligators are larger than I have ever seen them.

3) Circle of Life movie is lovely for children as well as adults. It features Simba, Pumba abd Timon and has some of the best animal photography to be found in the World!

I'd also mention that the food available here is excellent counter service and has some of the better choices available for children...chicken legs, mac 'n' cheese, sweet/sour chicken, make-your-own sub platter for kids...also whole-skin mashed potatoes and steamed veggies.

Epcot was our children's favorite park.

My kids, all around that age, love Epcot. They enjoy the sights of the World Showcase and were tickled by the ride through the restaurant in Mexico. They all loved Innoventions ( especially the house fire safety game -- I can't remember the name of it -- but we had a ball with that!!) and of course, Test Track, Mission Space and of course, Soarin. Emjoy!!

We weren't sure how my DS (8) would like going through the countries, but he was just fine.

One thing we did was get a little dish to share from the different countries. My son really liked that part.

I totally agree...lots of rides to enjoy. And lots of SNACKS to enjoy in the WS!

My kids totally love Epcot! And that was even when they were much younger but my son is now 7 and my youngest just turned 5 on the last trip- so for sure I think it's possible for an 8yr old to enjoy Epcot. They enjoy the rides- everything! But they also enjoy doing the kidcots at each country. :)

We're going to be at Epcot in two weeks. It's the only park we're going to this trip. We haven't been there since DS9 was almost 3. He hated it then. I know he's going to like it now because he's into futuristic stuff, inventions and video games. But, he just asked me if there was going to be any "Disney" stuff there. You know how MK has character rides and shows, he's afraid it won't "feel" like Disney. I didn't know what to tell him because it's been a long time since we've been there and I don't really remember.
