I have a Grand Villa reserved at OKW during the holidays. We have three nights on points, then I just added two nights paying cash. The CM said that I would have to check out and back in and warned me that we might have to move.

I have never done this before, but I thought that if we booked all through MS that it would essentially be one reservation and checking out/in and possibility of moving was not an issue. We'll do what we have to do, but it would be a HUGE relief if I knew that moving was not going to be required.

Does anyone know the resort's policy on this situation?

I believe MS usually tells everyone that, but we have never actually had to move when the type of unit has remained the same. You DO have to check out and check in again though. Just be sure when you check in with your points ressie, that you remimd the front desk that you will be checking out and in, and they will put a note to keep your same unit.

Last December we did this,

Sun-Thurs VWL Points, FRI-SAT Cash, SUN Points again. I was expecting three check-in, check-out scenarious. However, MS did a linking, and she assured me we would NOT have to move.

At check-in at VWL, our wonderful CM, did something on the computer, and we had only one check-in and check-out despite 3 seperate ressies!

I guess I am confused too. I thought one of the perks of booking though MS and linking your ressies was exactly so you WOULDN'T have two check ins and were guareenteed not to be moved. If that is not the case, then I guess I paid extra money for nothing in the past as I elected to pay the DVC cash rate and passed up on cheaper, AP rates through central ressies just to be assured of the above conditions. I have never been told when booking there was the possibility we might have to move nor were we informed of dual check in procedures! In fact, I was told the opposite. So all you DVC savy people, which is the true policy? Inquiring minds want to know lol!

Make sure they link the reservations. I was told by MS several times that linked reservations are considered one so you would not have to check out.

She definitely linked the two reservations, but still warned me about the need to check out and back in, and the possibility of having to move. I think I may call back in a few days, after holiday bookings have settled down, and ask for a supervisor to answer the question. As I said, I have never personally done the cash/points night combination, but thought from reading this boards for a looong time that they would be linked in such a way that it would be treated as one reservation for room assignment and check in/out purposes.

Anytime I have done the member service cash with a points reservation there was only 1 check-in. However, when I did a CRO AP rate once, I did have to check-out/check-in but did not have to move.

I'm thinking that perhaps she was just rushed (or new) and went into the spiel for linking CRO room with DVC point reservation.......or maybe the potential problems if you have a reservation for, as an example, a 2 bedroom and then want to change to a studio the last couple of days. Sometimes you might be able to shift to the studio portion, but sometimes you might have to move to another unit altogether.

Any other experiences with linked points/cash reservations? Thanks, guys!

If you are keeping the same room type, you shouldn't need to do anything as long as all components of the reservations (points and cash) were made thru MS. I agree that the CM may have been reciting the DVC points/CRO cash mantra and not the DVC points/cash policy.

We have done exactly what you are doing with a GV reservation without needing to move or checkin more than once. I would verify the reservations with MS again, to make sure they are linked together and re-verify at arrival. I'm confident you won't need to do anything except enjou your stay in the GV- they are wonderful! :)
