Will I be waitlisted/lose my ressie?

I have called and booked a vacation for my family for 6/5-6/8 and 6/8-6/11, both at SSR because I eventually (at the 7 month mark) want to switch these to a "split stay" at BWV and AKV, respectively. All ressies are 2br.

When I told the lady on the phone my intentions at the 7 month mark, she cautioned me about availability and the fact that my SSR ressie will have to be cancelled before the BWV or AKV ressie can be put into the computer. So in the few seconds/minutes it will take for the computer to "compute" I could lose my ressie all together, i.e., if another agent gets it during that minute and there is nothing left. She did tell me that they would be able to check availability at BWV/AKV before attempting the transaction, but during the transaction there is a chance that the availability will no longer be there by the end of the transaction.

Has this happened to anyone before? Do I need to be worried about being "blocked out?"

Yep, that does happen from time to time.

It can happen but I wouldn't worry too much - especially for a June reservation. If nothing else SSR or OKW at least would most likely have availability for you to rebook and still have a room.

You could if you have enough pts without borrowing just book either BWV or AKV with the extra pts , then cancel the 1 ressie at SSR to release those pts back into play, then book the other BWV or AKV ressie with these pts and then just cancel your other SSR ressie and have those pts left in your UY.
Even if you borrow pts just make sure that the pts left after all is done are bankable.
EXAMPLE: 100 pts for each SSR ressie, borrow 100 from next yr 2011 to book BWV . Cancel 1ssr 100 pt ressie and book AKV with those pts. Then cancel 2 SSR ressie of 100 pt and bank into 2011 . no pts lost
Unless you borrowed already.:scared1: Did I do this right:goodvibes

Actually that wouldn't be good because the points that were moved back into 2011, would be the old (banked) 2010 points. These would no longer be bankable. So, if you know you'll use the points, the scenario works. However, once those points are put back in 2011....they're stuck there. Not a good idea for a simple transaction that has a glitch .1% of the time.

This happened to me last summer. I wanted a room at BLT during the first week of its opening. I called and they had one. I said go ahead and book it. She told me that I could lose my BWV room but since those showed 3 in inventory (plus my cancelled one would make 4), we thought we would be okay even if we lost the BLT reservation during the switch. Well, not only was the BLT room gone but so were all 4 of the BWV rooms in less then 1 minute!!!

We were able to get nights back at SSR and wait list BWV, which came through the next day. But, it was very scary. Of course, I was doing this with only 2 months to go (in June for an August trip) so that could have played a role.

When I called at 7 months to change some of my BLT nights to BCV this summer, I was nervous, but the CM said there was enough availability for what I wanted not to worry about it.

My suggestion is to always ask about it. I wish they had a way to make it happen for members so that rooms are not lost (as they do with wait lists), but as of now, they do not and you always take a risk switching things at busy times.

Yes, she did tell me that they would check the availablity, but I am glad to hear they can actually see how many are available.

Thanks everyone for the info! To be honest, I am good as long as I am staying at any DVC property. We are pretty much allowing my daughter to pick the resorts because we are celebrating her high school graduation, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will be able to switch to BWV and AKV, as per her request.:cutie:

It happened to me for our Jan trip this past year. I had OKW (home resort) and wanted to change to VWL in a 2 bedroom dedicated for 5 nites. It was available. She cancelled my OKW and when she went to book it only 4 nites available in a dedicated, so I had to take a lock off for one nite and went on the waitlist. It did come through after a few weeks, but I do wish they could do something with the system to hold it while you are changing reservations.

So my 7-month mark falls on a Sunday. Do I call on the Friday before or the Monday after?

Nevermind, it falls on a Friday. I had my calendar open to the wrong month.

I'd like to know the answer anyway, though.

Member Services is open 7 days a week, except holidays.

If you want to check-in November 25, and Member Services is, of course, closed December 25, 11 months prior, you call the next day, December 26th.

We'll be there in an OKW GV during the same time, doing the same thing. Only with (maybe) up to nine extra kids.

Just for closure--haha--I was able to get everything switched. I called on Friday the 5th for the first ressie and I got it switched to a 2BR pref view at BWV and I called today and got the second ressie switched to a 2BR Sav view at AKV! WooHoo!!!:cool1:

All the 2BRs at BWV are lock-offs, so that is what we have and AKV only had 2BR lock-offs available so she offered to put me on the waitlist for a 2BR dedicated. I figure why not. I am happy either way but we may as well try.

Thanks for all the info again everyone!:goodvibes

I thought with the new system, they could switch your reservation without you having to worry about losing it. Wasn't this part of the upgrade?

When I called, I didn't have the impression that I may lose the reservation when she switched it. For both phone calls, the cm's said something like, "Let me check the availability. Yes, there is a 2BR available, so let's switch it." They never said anything about having to cancel and maybe losing it. So maybe the "new" system has fixed that, but I can't be sure.
