Will Disney follow new CDC recommendation?

We can't accurately forecast that - 2021 is very different than 2020 was. Many people were still avoiding travel and crowds last fall, as the CDC recommended.
It’s not different when it comes to cases and hospitalization. It is matching 2020 within a week or two across all regions.

We will cancel next week if we have to mask. This trip is to recover from the last trip when we did mask and didn’t like it at all. I really hope it doesn’t happen because it’s been planned for a while, but I’m a quick change person and will figure something else out.😞

Because the policy works best if we all do it. The CDC recommending this change means they find it necessary and helpful, and if Disney chose to disregard the recommendation, I would question their commitment to guest safety.
I question it with the capacity increases. If they were actually concerned with safety they wouldn’t have done that and it’s too late to stop that.

I don’t disagree, but this would be directly flouting the CDC guidelines, which would cause me to raise an eyebrow. I can appreciate the complexities in reinstating it, though.

It is so tricky because even though being outdoors is so much safer if you don’t keep minimum distance between parties then eventually if you have a COVID positive basically breathing down your back for an hour long wait outdoors then the risk is still there.

I wish the whole idea of cramming everyone in would go away for awhile.

Amen! I was there 2 weeks ago and people are very close to you like the pre-pandemic times! Notwithstanding, I wore my mask and had a fantastic time! 🥰👸🏽

I agree with you, BUT:

- The most recent data show that viral loads with the Delta variant in vaccinated people are about as high as they are in the unvaccinated. It is still harder for a vaxxed person to catch it, but those who do are just as contagious.

- Another recent study out of Israel showed a decline in immunity (with the Pfizer vaccine) after 6-7 months. Those vaccinated in January (the most vulnerable group in the US) only have about 40% immunity against the Delta variant.

- Given this double whammy, everyone needs to be masking indoors (this is the reasoning behind the new guidelines). The vaccine protects the individual, the mask protects the community and those not eligible for the vaccine.
The new guidelines will help little though. Maybe at Disney but I don’t think it will be much and outside of that it will be minimal. We’re in a hotspot. We had a “mandate”. People didn’t wear masks. Those same people didn’t get the vaccine. And they won’t wear a mask now. I also question if they can actually control it at Disney with capacity at what it is, combined with people not wanting to wear them and cast members tired of dealing with it.

I am going at the end of August. I am fully vaccinated but will be wearing a mask indoors and anywhere that is super crowded (hopefully the crowds will be significantly less in the last week of August). Even though I’m fully vaccinated, Delta seems to be causing significantly more breakthrough cases and I’m on vacation to have fun, not be laid up in my hotel room feeling like crap or losing my sense of smell and taste during Food & Wine because I got a breakthrough case of Covid.

You have the right plan! I was there 2 weeks ago and wore my mask! It was really hot the week of 12-17 July, but we survived! I’m fully vaccinated and get tested upon my return to NYC! All good! 🥰👸🏽 :mickeyjum

I just hope Disney releases a statement one way or the other in a timely manner. We are set to arrive Aug 8 and a mask requirement would be a deal breaker for us. Coming down from Canada is an expensive proposition, and is getting harder to justify during "normal" times. So, spending that kind of money to wear a mask half the time in the summer heat would not be something we could financially justify (heck we lose over $1K just on the exchange rate alone for a 10 day package at Pop). Question - If Disney were to change the mask requirement policy at WDW would guests who are mid-stay qualify to receive any type of refund for their remaining booked days if they chose to leave early because of the change in policy?

Masks in airports and masks on planes are bad enough. If Disney implements mandatory masks for indoor facilities, I will be cancelling my August trip. Obviously, if Central Florida and Disney deem this a hazardous environment, why would I take my family.
They would only be deeming it a hazardous environment if people didn't wear masks. And I agree, why would you want to take your family to a hazardous, maskless environment. :)

I wouldn’t count on it but I hope I’m wrong. Would love to hear their plan. Statements on stance without action just invites political discourse I think though. That’s not Disney’s style, typically. Correct me if I’m wrong on that though.

Any rumors/ideas on when we can expect a statement from disney? This waiting and debating is the worst. I’m ready to hear the plan.

I would think if they’re going to announce something it would have been tonight, starting for tomorrow if they were going to do something. I’m going regardless, I’d just like to know.

Highly unlikely. They haven’t given much (or any) warning on prior policy changes and I haven’t heard any reports of compensation.

We visit in Dec and will wear masks indoors regardless and we are vaccinated. It isn't just Covid. I don't want any of your crud. No upper respiratory, no cold, no stomach bug. While 2020 wasn't fun, it was the healthiest I've been and we traveled to Florida twice.
Just want to let you know, you may want to stock up on N95s. I know from a lot of experience that just wearing a regular mask you will still catch everything those around you unmasked are spreading.

16 months later and we're still having the same bloody argument. 🤦‍♀️

Let's just summarize it:

Some people do not find the mask increases their perception of heat at all. That's totally valid.
Some people find the mask increases their perception of heat and it makes them feel miserable. That's also, totally valid.

Thank goodness I've been validated
