Only ridiculous if it's not happening for a reason. I've stayed in a few hotels where the alarm has gone off in the middle of the night. If safety dictates we evacuate, I'll take the inconvenience.

It’s ridiculous that Disney does not communicate with the guests. No instructions, nothing. There is a malfunction but guests are not told anything. I checked out and found a new hotel.
If you want to stay at a hotel where the alarm goes off in the middle of the night 2 out of 3 nights go for it.

If you weren't told anything, how do you know it was a malfunction? I would agree that a subsequent letter after the issue, explaining any details pertinent to the guests, would be appreciated.
What type of instruction, other than evacuate the building when you hear the alarm, were you expecting?

Write Disney. Since they said it was their fault they absolutely should have compensated you with some goodwill gesture. Ridiculous they did not as fire alarms are incredibly disruptive to vacation.
I was at WL just when they did testing and it was so loud it was audible from the pool despite not being broadcast outside. Nice that it works- but to be inside when it was going off was miserable. I would have been livid to find out it was unplanned TWICE Disney’s fault.
There are other instructions than woo-woo from modern alarms as I unfortunately found at a Universal SF stay last month. The alarm went off in my building and it was a repeat loop of woo-woo then words to the effect of “an alarm has been sounded, please stand by where you can hear for further instruction”. (In case anyone is wondering- yes, you can hear it in the shower even with the bathroom door closed… not a great afternoon that one but at least it wasn’t night time! Of interest it only alarmed in my building not the other 2 so there are most definitely various levels of alarms.)
