Wilderness Lodge Mess

The pool construction does not affect VWL so, BB ticket is not being offered at this time.

It really does though, since many or most of the WL guests will now go to the VWL pool. So instead of having a nice, "quiet" pool, it will be over crowded. Also, the VWL guests may very well also use the main pool.
I'm staying on rented points beginning Dec. 1st. I know it's scheduled to be completed on Nov. 27th, but if it isn't, my trip will be impacted too.

Just wondering if anyone there now can post pics if anything is going on i.e. scaffolding, etc. or can at least tell us what they observe? TIA!

I am in the same boat, we are staying for 7 nights arriving Dec 6th. Here is my thinking, they will want to have the construction completed by 11/27 because of the popularity of this resort during the holiday season for hotel and day guests. It is one of the most popular hotels during the holidays to check out and walk through. This is a weighted opinion lol, but think about it, it makes sense. Disney does not want a popular holiday resort under construction in December....right lol?

Disney may want it, but you can not control contractors and the problems that come up. They probably assumed it would take ten weeks and added two or so on your problems. My house project was promised in six months and it took eleven. I think Disney is a bit scarier than me so it will not be that ridiculous, but things come up. I am staying 10/29-11/5 and took the $50 for each room and. I am fine with it, but if I were there any time in December, especially the first two weeks, with no compensation, and it mattered to me, I would be switching.

I wish that we could move to BWV or BCV. Unfortunately, I'm staying on rented DVC points, and nothing is available. The DVC owner I rented from looked for me. I can only hope it finishes on time.

Has anyone staying at VWL as part of DVC received anything such as BB Tickets? I wrote an e-mail on behalf of my parents (staying in a Woods View room) and myself (staying in a villa using points). My parents received the $50 credit. I was added back to their card. We never heard from a CM. Nobody offered any BB tickets. I thought we might get those since we are staying through DVC, but we didn't. I'm just wondering if I should call and ask.
We weren't offered a credit! We were offered BB tickets and my friend was credited 5 pts back to her DVC account. Big deal. Who did you talk to to get that credit?

The pool construction is slated to be completed by 11/27.

Seriously? DVC people are entitled to use that pool as well! It's not just for those staying at WL proper! Not to mention that all those people that normally would use the main pool, will now be using the quiet pool over by the DVC wing! It's a lose lose situation for us that are staying DVC at VWL. We were offered the BB tickets, but we just don't have the time to be traipsing over there for a quick afternoon swim...nor do we want to head to CR or FtW. That's not what people are paying for.

LOL, Disney probably is scary for contractors. I am betting they have a serious completion date clause in the contract, so barring some unforeseen act of God type happening (hurricane) I am confident they will have things completed by the date of 27 November.

We are staying there December 12-16 so I am obviously optimistic. I will let you know how optimistic I feel on 26 November. :bitelip:

How does it not affect VWL? It impacts both WL and VWL. VWL can use the main pool and now everyone will use VWL's quiet pool. It actually really affects us because we Can't change resorts at this time. Everything is booked solid. At least if you are on a cash ressie, you can get money back or move.

I can certainly see where VWL would be absolutely impacted by the pool construction. If I were staying at the VWL I would absolutely be :scared1: of all the guests trying to use the quiet pool.

As a possible future DVC buyer I would think that a goodwill gesture toward DVC owners that are booked into VWL during this construction mess would be appropriate. So, since I am on the bubble of deciding whether or not to buy into the DVC, I am watching this situation with interest. I also have a stay booked in December that will help us decide, based on service, cleanliness and several other markers, since Disney has been a bit of a disappointment the past several stays. There are other Orlando area options, after all.

I've been reading all of this with great interest. I check into the WL in less than a month. When I booked through Orbitz, it just mentioned the main pool was closed but that the other hidden pool was open. We didn't think it was too big of a deal since we love the Lodge.

Cut to the last few weeks and I'm seeing that the hot tub and the pool bar are closed, the entire pool area will be redone with scaffolding and construction with jackhammers....that's COMPLETELY different than the pool is closed.

Also saw that folks are receiving letters from Disney about the pool construction. I've never received a letter, I only found about about how extensive this whole thing is from reading the boards, thank you all!

So, I called Disney to just ask about it. They informed me that yes that whole area would be under construction from 9am-5pm each day but that it "wouldn't affect" us. Umm, really? I then asked about the waterpark tickets I've heard about and she did inform me that they would handle that at the front desk but yes, waterpark tickets would be available. After I hung up, I called my sister (we live in separate cities and this is a sister only trip) and explained. She was disappointed but said "Well, if the construction is bad, then we can ask them to move us once we check in right?".

I've been reading the disboards all about this and then saw that some folks are being moved at no extra charge, some are getting $50. a night credit for staying at the WL, some are getting a $500. overall credit, and some are being offered to move to a different resort for a nominal charge. I think it's fantastic that those folks are being taken care of.

But what I don't get is why Disney was just upfront about how extensive the construction would be! Had I known that, I would have booked a different resort this time and probably paid more for it so that Disney would be making more $ from me to begin with. But they made it seem like it wasn't a big deal.

I've contacted Orbitz, explained the situation, they were so nice. They put me on hold and called Disney. When they came back on the line they let me know that I would receive some sort of credit but that the manager on duty wasn't there that day so I would get a call from Disney letting me know what that was. I thanked them and hung up. Two days later I hadn't heard anything. I called Orbitz again. Explained everything and asked if I should be getting a call from Disney or what. They called Disney again, they then told me "Disney will call you today by 5pm". Again, nothing.

I called Disney on Friday and explained the situation to the CM and asked to speak to guest services. They transferred me over to a wonderful CM. She was very nice and completely understood when I let her know that I would have chosen a different resort to begin with and I asked her who would be calling me back. She explained that Disney didn't really do that, they liked to take care of things on the phone right away. She let me know that Orbitz had probably called the Lodge directly instead of a different dept. She said that she couldn't do anything since Disney didn't own my reservation until 2 weeks before the trip. She told me to call Orbitz, told them what dept to call at Disney, and let them know I wanted to move to a different resort. Give them 3 to 4 choices of resorts to work with and then she let me know she completely understood my point of view. She was so nice and pleasant as was I.

Called Orbitz back, told them everything was on hold for 45 minutes. They came back and said "GF is available but you have to pay the difference in price." I explained to the rep that I wasn't going to be doing that. That Orbitz needed to call Disney back and let them know that I was more than happy to move to a number of places but I wasn't going to move to the Grand Floridian and pay a ton of extra money. Orbitz was so nice and a supervisor called Disney. She then called me back and said I would hear from Orbitz in 24-72 hours after Disney called them back.

So, I'm waiting to hear from them. If I don't hear at the end of my workday I'm calling them to check on it.

Just wanted to post this so that folks can see that Orbitz or another booking agent is more than happy to work with you on fixing this. The Disney folks I've spoken to have been great. Now, they all just need to talk to each other and figure things out.

I get that WL wants to keep people there during this, I get that Disney would want to move me to the most expensive resort on property to make more money, and I get that there are refurbishments being done to improve Disney overall.

What I don't get is why Disney just isn't upfront about how extensive those refurbishments are and also why they don't just have a plan in place knowing that some folks will not be thrilled with it affecting their stay. Like I said at the beginning, I would have booked a different resort in the first place had they just been completely honest about the construction.

Now, I'm hoping that Disney will help us out and move us somewhere and not want to charge us up the wahzoo to make that change. I've seen on here that many folks have been offered the change with no charge at all.

Sitting and waiting....

PS- Good luck to others that are going to WL during this construction. Hope it all works out for you all!

Try being DVC and staying at VWL. Evidently no one thinks we are being impacted by anything! No credits for us! But we get to look at all the construction the same as everyone else. And we get to now share our normally quiet little pool with a ton more people! Yep, kind of makes you rethink DVC.Talk about being the red-headed step child.

Well, I'm thrilled. Our last night waitlist for AKL has just come through, so we are completely dropping WL.

I love WL, but I was really bummed about the pool-I felt like a major piece of the ambience was going to be missing. Since AKL is my next choice, I'm thrilled to be staying there.

We will still be transferring to Beach Club for the 2nd part of our stay.

Next trip, we will go back to WL.

Just an update. I got a call from Orbitz just now and they worked with Disney to move us to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We've never stayed there so we are excited.

We will miss the WL terribly but we will have to go over and visit on this trip one day.

Wanted folks to know that if you did work with a 3rd party like Orbitz, they are more than happy to work with you. I was pleasant the entire time and just let them know that I would have chosen a resort other than WL if I'd known that it wasn't just the pool being closed and it was actually major construction. Orbitz was persistent with Disney and we are very happy that they worked with us to move us to a resort of the same level and doesn't have construction going on.

So there is hope for those that have issues.

Now we have to do a lot of AKL research since we've never been there and really know nothing about it. So this last 3 weeks will be lots of research!

Good luck to everyone out there!

Has anyone who has December stay dates called to see what they say about that situation since the construction is supposed to be done by then but we all know chances are good it won't be? We are staying the week before Christmas and I wasn't planning on any pool time but having a big mess and construction noise will really annoy me. I don't want to move resorts truly but I'm so tired of being in the middle of disney construction for the last few years. We were unfortunately stuck in the "no monorail during the day" situation a few years back while they were building the GF villas. And well everyone knows how long new fantasyland took and then the crane at the castle and scrims on Main Street forever and poly DVC construction..... We love the magic kingdom resorts best and love love love WL at Christmas..... And DS doesn't remember the one Christmas trip he has been on, where we stayed at AKL. I don't want to change- could they really stick to a construction timeline?!?!

Spoke to an amazing GS representative yesterday and switched from WL courtyard view with BB to the Beach Club - Garden View. The entire process was less than 20 minutes and the representative was extremely helpful. We could of stayed at the WL which included the $50/night discount plus the 1 day water park tickets but opted to relocate and try a new experience. AKL is was also an option that I declined.

let me get this straight...

you were offered a $50 a night discount and 1 day waterpark tickets as an option staying CRO or ability to relocate, very accommodating imo.

so sad, too bad for DVC members staying on points (me) it appears:rolleyes1not very magical imo.

Congrats to those who were savvy enough to call in and negotiate. Despite being an official red-headed stepchild, I might as well expend the same effort to call member services to see if they will offer us BB tix for our stay in October.

Heck, if enough of us called in to complain of un-even treatment perhaps we'll get some pixie dust too.

Yeah, don't bother. MS offered my friend (owner of the points) a return of 5 pts to her account. Now, she was offered BB tickets, but we probably won't have time to use them. That wasn't in our planning. But a nice, quiet afternoon swim in Hidden Springs was....guess we had best do our swimming prior to Sept 3! Glad we didn't extend past the 5th!

While the situation sucks for DVC folks, the truth is that DVC folks are owners. Owners bear the cost--in this case a major disruption--of capital improvements. That's basic real estate. Plus, Disney is a business. Disney already has a lot of money from a DVC owner. It's not surprising that cash guests, who can walk away within the cancellation policies, are treated differently. I'm not saying that I'd be happy about it either, but it is what DVC owners bought into.

I think you answered your own question. Disney wants to make sure they don't lose revenue during renovations. They actually don't want you book a different resort. They want your room and the room you would have booked elsewhere both booked at the same time. From a business perspective it makes sense. From a guest perspective, it stinks.

We will be there in 16 days for a 10 night stay. It's an adults only trip, and we really don't use the pool that much. We did receive a letter, well, he did, not me, but I really thought it'd just be pool refurb and not a whole lot of ugliness like I'm not picturing in my head after reading this thread.

I think it's a little late in the game to try to switch resorts, plus, I seriously doubt BF will go for that idea since he looooves WL.

No real point to this post, I guess, but if I can figure out how to post pics, I'll share what I can.

Ok, well, I guess I thought of a question.....BF booked directly thru Disney. Are they just giving everyone a $50/night credit for staying, or is it only for those that call to complain? We really don't have a complaint yet since we've not seen the real situation. We aren't very picky, and are really just happy to have some alone time, but one of the reasons we did pick WL was because it is nice and quiet.
