Wifi on Castaway

Is the ship's wifi accessible on castaway cay? If so, does it work decently or should I expect it to be super slow? I'd love to do some snapchatting from the beach, but if it will take forever to send photos then it may not be worth the cost or hassle. Thanks!

They've recently extended the ship's WiFi to CC. It wasn't there last summer, but last November, it suddenly was. At least they had it at Serenity Bay. They seemed to have drink servers with mobile payment terminals, which I had not seen before, so that may be why they put it in, but for whatever reason, it's there. I have no reason to believe it's any faster or slower than what's on the ship. Also, there is 3G cellular data on CC, and pricing is based on whatever your pricing would be elsewhere in The Bahamas. So for example, T-Mobile customers get free 3G data on CC now, since The Bahamas was recently added to the list of free countries for data and text roaming.

Wasn't at Family Beach yesterday, well Fantasy Friday. Just an FYI

My suggestion to anyone that can unless you need it for work or have family situations that require you to be reachable, then try to stay "disconnected". (Except for the navigator app if you need to communicate with others on the cruise or check the schedule.)

Cruising "un-plugged" makes the experience so much better and more memorable (to me personally). I come back so much more rested and connected with my wife after cruising since neither of us are staring at our phones. We take pictures but try to leave them alone as much as possible.

I give work and family the emergency number to reach my stateroom and call it done. I realize there are people that can't but unless you have to then try it, I promise you won't regret it!

Sure, take pictures but FaceBook, Snapchat, and everything else will be there when you get back to port.

I think alot of people (not necessarily the OP) are interested in WiFi on CC so the Navigator app will work and they can communicate with the other members of their party if they split up. Not so much so they can FB and Snapchat.

Yup I understand the navigator app. I just try to encourage people to actually look up and enjoy the view =) Some people can't imagine life without their phone (including me most of the time) but it's a life changing experience to take that little break while cruising to get away. I even catch myself when we're at WDW using my phone too much lol

I understand some people can't due to obligations but if you can it really does make the cruise even more enjoyable to take the time to reconnect with family and recharge.

Happy cruising!

Thanks for the replies! Seems like there is some inconsistency with regard to the wifi and how well it works. I guess I'll just see what the deal is when I get there, if it works that's great and if it doesn't, no big deal. I generally do cruise/vacation "disconnected" - turning off email and calendar alerts, Facebook and other social media platforms (though having tinder on the boat could get very interesting!), but snapchat is lots of fun for me and needs to be done "in the moment." I know it will still be there when I return to reality. Not saying I'm going to be glued to my phone (which is always with me anyway for the Navigator, doubles as my camera, and what I use to listen to music while lounging and relaxing), but if I see something amusing and want to send it via snapchat to a few close friends or post it to my snapstory, I'd like the option. So yes, while some prefer to cruise completely disconnected (which I have done before), some might not have an option due to work or family, and others fall somewhere in the middle. To each their own. Personally, I don't ever put a rule on myself that I must never access the Internet while on vacation. If the mood strikes, I'll do it. Don't worry, I intend to fully enjoy my vacation, as I have done in the past, while either using or not using technology as I please.

I found it to work extremely well on Serenity Bay for communicating with the kids back on the ship last week. Wave phones also worked well.

I found the wifi even while on ship to be very slow.
That's typical for any ship's wifi (any cruise line). There are a lot of people using the (not sure of the right term - bandwidth?) at the same time (including the ship's crew for ship's operations). That, plus the fact that the signal is via satellite, slows things down.

I am on board with this thought process. Taking cruises is the only real way my husband can get away from work pressures and truly get away from it all for 7 nights :)
I take mine as far as the ship safe and then it is turned off (after being put on airplane mode) and forgotten for the length of the cruise.
We use the paper Navigators with 4 different highlighter colors for things we want to do (each family member gets a color) and that is the extent of "planning" our relaxation. I bring my good camera and enjoy taking pictures around the ship and ports.
The kids take a wave phone and stay together and I will take the other while they do their thing and we do ours. My husband is exempt from carrying a wave phone or any type of electronic device. Lol :)

I note that you just got back from your 3rd. :) I know it was spectacular! We are heading out on the Dream for the first time since renovations took place in a few weeks. (Okay, 22 days)
Happy Sailing to you as well!

We do too! I am on call 24/7 for my job, always having to check email, etc so the cruises are w great excuse to unplug!

Enjoy the Dream!! We love her!!

This will be our 3rd time on the Dream and we (okay, I) am looking forward to Vannellopes the most. It would be really awesome if they would put it on Fantasy too. :)

We tried Vannellopes this last time. It was very good. I got the cupcake gelato in a waffle cone. The waffle cone was sooo fresh. We finally have a trip next year scheduled on the Fantasy. I'm trying to squeeze one in on the Wonder after her dry dock. We're totally addicted if you can't tell lol

The Fantasy is awesome! You will love those extra days out there. If you come back relaxed and happy after 3 or 4 nights, you will come back totally refreshed after 7. :)
We are taking our 6th Fantasy cruise this September. I understand and embrace DCL addiction. I really do. :)
