I'll be calling my lawyer today to sue. I'll need years of therapy after watching raw family and seeing their house. I had nightmares all night long.

What happened to decency laws and television censors?

That was a really weird episode. Usually both families have quirks, but in this one the one family seemed so normal. I got the feeling they could get along with just about anyone - so they had to pair them with someone pretty nutso. The only thing even slightly unusual about them was that their interest in fungshui (sp?) and fashion.

The raw family did seem reasonably friendly etc, but man, raw meat?

That's what dh and I were saying. They usually pick 2 unusual families, but the non-raw family seemed pretty "mainstream" in every way. They seemed to be like nice, ordinary people. I felt so bad for the mainstream mom to have to sleep, eat, and use the bathroom in the raw house. Ewwwww! I wouldn't even want to spend an hour sitting in that house. It was filthy.

I can't believe the Doctor and Dietitian did not say that eating raw meat could be dangerous! When I go into a Japanese resturant these days, they post *warnings* about eating some of the sushi and undercookded/raw fish dishes. How often are we "warned" about throughly cooking all chicken and turkey?!

I only saw the last half, but the "raw" house was pretty disgusting!

Well, in some respects, the raw family is correct, that as a general rule, our bodies are made to process food raw and that it is, in many cases, healthier to eat raw food... however, while I can get on the raw diet for not cooking veggies and fruits, etc, there is no way I would eat raw meat. But that is more of an aesthetic reason than because raw meat is "bad".

The reason we are warned to cook all meat really well is because of how the meat is processed and how one animal handled incorrectly can contaminate the whole lot being processed at the same time.

Since they care for and slaughter their own animals, they do not have to worry about contamination (as much) and there is not any concern about a sick animal being slipped into the food supply. I just hope they do not ever eat pork. That is the one animal that should never never ever be eatten raw.

Raw meat aside- why are these children not getting an education? Isn't it the law? She is not even home schooling them.WTH? Their living conditions are unacceptable and those children should be taken out of there until that house is clean. They also need to visit the shower more often. My gosh- how are they getting away with this? They are friggen loons

I am embarassed to say I caved and watched it OMG such freaks. And those poor kids, brainwashed. The boy was scarey, I would imagine he gets that from dad. The fact that they live in such filth is horrendous. No bathing, WTH? There is no reason in the world that those people should live in filth. They were all capable human beings. If you don't "do" chemicals, use some friggn homemade soap. Jeesh, just when you think it can't get any worse and they pull out the high meat. Sickos.

I agree and I would hope that the state would take a look at their children's lack of education and take them to task for that. If you do not like "formal" education, then homeschool... but to not educate your children at all is to be a complete failure as a parent.

I caught this show last night-- I usually don't watch it, but I was flipping through the channels and couldn't look away.

What really disturbed me is that the kids in the raw family-- the son in particular-- seemed maladjusted. That boy's temper didn't really seem normal given the circumstances. I think those kids are being brainwashed and I felt bad for them.

I HATED the show Why is it the 1st time someone from really close to my town (yeah by the way 90 minutes from a city is not true at all its about 60 miles to a Omaha most of the drive on a 70 mph road) but there are plenty of large towns close by. AND they all sell clothes from this decade and everything I swear they do. I want to go to her house someday when that dress is hanging out to air out or whatever non washing people do with their clothes and burn the denim shapeless dress with the pink flowers on it. OK I admit I am a little sensative about how people from where I live get played on TV and this didn;t not help. Our local Radio Station has been featuring clips from this family for the last 2 or 3 weeks and they were carrying on about how the Dr was on their side so maybe I am just tired of hearing them.

My favorite part was when the farm mom asked for scissors to cut her armpit hair.

That was one of my favorite parts too. That, and when the normal family were brushing their teeth with butter and clay and the dad asked the son if his teeth felt clean.

After the little boy shook his head no, the dad goes, "Well of course not. You just rubbed butter all over them son."

I think that poor man was in shock!

DH and I like to figure out who'd they'd stick us with.

At the very end when they showed the update, the raw meat wife looked horrible. She was so pale and her eyes had bags under them. She looked ill.

Last night was the first time I ever watched Wife Swap. The raw farm family was just plain old nasty! Raw meat? GROSS The house was beyond disgusting. I won't even comment on the toilet. I would not have been able to stay in that house if I were the city mom, I just wouldn't be able to do it. My husband couldn't even watch the show. I was getting so grossed out but it was like a train wreck and I couldn't look away.

I feel bad for the raw farm family kids. The son really seemed to have some serious issues which doesn't surprise me considering the way he lives.

Of the show, as I was watching Prison Break--no-one eating raw meat on that show. Anyway, what was the Father Drinking in the plastic bottle? It looked like Curdled Milk, that turned me off right there! There is NO way these People are "healthy" they all look like death warmed over.....

I was talking toa co-worker about it this morning and told her that I would ahve gotten to the doorstep and vomited. Truly, I am a germaphobe and have no stomach for filth. I literally become ill thinking about it. I can make myself sick thinking about even a "clean" public toilet. I know I've got issues with germs, but shrub lady has far worse issues.

And the fact that the kids aren't even homeschooled and the son seems to ahve some mental issues, I truly hope that the state intervenes. That goes beyond not normal, that's simply a neglectful if not abusive situation.

DH made the comment that this episode proves that there is someone out there for everyone. I'm with you...just keep me away from that place.

Between the filth and the lack of schooling CPS should be out at that house today. I've never seen people so proud of the fact that they weren't educating their children. I don't know how normal mom survived. I would have opened the door, looked around and left!

I just wanted to send a ton of bleach over to that house in a hurry!

ITA. The whole time I was thinking to myself, the daughter is sick because it's a big change in diet for her. It's not that cooked food is evil.

I'm laughing at this because normally my DD7 goes to bed at 8pm but she stayed up until the 1st commercial last night so I didn't miss anything. This morning she was telling a friend how I made her watch this nasty family eat raw meat and live in filth . I imagine DYFS will be knocking on my door later
