That was so nasty. All I have thought about today was the raw meat. also those kids had cramps from eating cooked food. Dose anyone why?

Today is my DH's birthday and he asked for steak tips for his birthday dinner. This morning I took the meat out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw and I almost got sick looking at it...and it's fresh! I swear, last nights episode is going to turn me into a Vegan

All they ate was deep fried food. I knew they would get sick. Why not order a grilled chicken instead of chicken strips.

I couldn't watch it but I also wanted to add that not all of us from Iowa are like that. When they have families like that they should keep the home state a secret to protect the rest of us!

I agree. I don't believe that "cooking" the food on a grill would have made them sick. It was the addition of the breading, saturated fats from teh deep fryer, etc. that made them ill.

Raw Man's quasi-nervous breakdown in the bathroom was really disturbing to me. He and his son both seem to be wrapped a bit too tight and maybe not all that healthy from a mental standpoint--how many 15 year olds sit on a sofa screaming like a two year old having a temper tantrum?

I agree. It really was disturbing to watch. Crouched down on that filthy floor by the nasty toilet howling like a baby, and the boy, totally clueless. I really think the authorities should step in. Like someone said, they aren't even pretending to homeschool. Counting eggs, ***?

My take was that, as much as they didn't want to admit it, they MISS real food. They didn't take into account (and given how uneducated they are, they probably didn't even know) that depriving your body of anything and then binging is going to cause "reactions" to it, LOL. If they truly wanted to live "all raw" I'm sure there were options on that menu a little closer. If they're so turned off by processed foods, why would they all go for the greasy burgers and chicken strips instead of a grilled chicken salad which would be somewhat less extreme for them?

I think the son got so upset because he has been filled so full of "end of the world" type stuff. To him the city lady was taking away his ability to survive the disaster.

Those poor kids are probably so worried about things to come. Sad, sad situation.

I know the raw family said it did take a little while to get used to eating raw food but they now liked it. Did anyone notice their faces when they ate? They certainly did not look like they liked the raw food and they were taking awfully small bites. Did you see the dad when he had the four month old high meat?

I feel really bad for those kids. They seemed brainwashed. When city mom asked them about the food they would "recite" an answer. Seems like what they were saying had been drilled into their heads.

Also wanted to add that if they think "living naturally" is so great, then why should they live in a house, have plumbing, etc? I mean their house was painted once (and chemicals are in paint, insulation, drywall, and other house building materials, right?) They should live in a cave and use a hole in the ground for a toilet if they think nature is so great. They should also skin animals and wear the fur, and grow and pick cotton and weave clothes. Don't they know store bought clothing is made in factories that produce chemicals??

I couldn't figure out why they were so worried about the end of the world. I'm assuming they meant the Apocalypse. If your faith is so that you believe in it, why are you so worried about what earthly items you'll need to survive? Won't you be gone?

I about died when the mom needed scissors for her armpit hair! That, and when she put a hammer in the emergency kit because you never know when you might need to knock an animal out. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Have any of you gone to ABC's web site to read the bios on the women? The Raw Lady seems like a cult member. They wake up in the middle of the night to eat because if their bodies go without food for too long they will become anorexic? Sorry, but raw mom could stand to lose a few thirty pounds...

They didn't look healthy. They looked flushed and had dark circles under thier eyes. And none of them seemed truly happy, they seemed like they were...well in a cult or something. Those poor kids seemed very sad inside, I think the teen sons outbursts were a cry for help and normalcy. City mom described it best when she said they are stealing those kids childhoods by turning them into farmhands.

I truly hope the state steps in. I truly think there is some mental illness happening. Raw wife states that the diet was the husbands idea, and basically claims that her role is a traditional female role. In other words Raw man is completely dominating of his families lives. They control every bite that goes into those kids mouths, and admit that the children have no social interaction with anyone. That's not mentally healthy. Period.

That family was so disturbing, I was absolutely glued to the TV last night!

What really disturbed me is that the kids in the raw family-- the son in particular-- seemed maladjusted. That boy's temper didn't really seem normal given the circumstances. I think those kids are being brainwashed and I felt bad for them.

Yea, that boy has some issues. My first thought was that deep down, he knows how disgusting their lifestyle is, otherwise he wouldn't get so angry about the other mom disagreeing with them.

Anyone catch that the daughter admitted they got sick when they first started eating the raw meat, but blamed it on the fact that their bodies were ridding themselves of the toxins from the cooked meat?

I think they call it 'high meat' because you have to be high to eat it.

I was thinking the opposite. Eating it probably makes you high, it's so rancid. Especially after what raw-mom said at the end, when raw-dad said he tried to get city-mom to eat the high meat, and she laughed and said "oh, 'cause of her attitude?", like the high meat would change a person's outlook.

I know a lot of crunchy people, but none are like that family. The people who eat raw do not eat much meat at all frankly, and cook what they do eat.

As far as chemicals, though, I understand cutting them when possible. Our valley is number 35 for the most polution, although it is one of the most beautiful places one could visit. Because we choose to stay here, we try to limit our exposure to as many other chemicals as possible. We are already being monitored (by the state) for a chemical that the government willy-nilly allowed to be put into the water supply. Because the plant was the only one in this country to make a product, and our government needs it.

These people were really odd.

How sad am I, I googled it last night.

I could only find references to high meat equaling a high protein diet.

I am not a good housekeeper,that house was gross! I also clean with vinigar and I try to watch the chemicals use. But my toilet dose not look like that!

Ok, this was the grossest ever! I don't watch very often, but couldn't turn away! It was like a train wreck. I told DH that they probably slit their own throats cuz I can't imagine who would volunteer to go on the show after that!! I would be too afraid of who they would put me with!

One thing that really bothered me is that the raw man was so upset that the city man wouldn't try their meat, etc., but he wouldn't try the city wife's way and wouldn't follow any of the new rules and even had a fit about it! So hypocritical!!!

They usually pick 2 extreme couples that can really learn something from the others, but this time they went far on one-side and if I were City couple, I would be VERY unhappy about the whole thing. They just used a nice couple to expose the strangest couple they could for good TV!!

Ok, this episode was very disturbing on so many levels. Why did the raw family think living in that filth and squalor was good for them?? The sinks, the toilet, the shower --- y-u-c-k. How did that city woman sleep there??

Making these kids work 10 hours days and have no formal schooling? Aren't there state laws that require homeschoolers to teach public school curriculum in some form? To hear the teenage boy say his math practice consisted of counting animals made me sad. Parents should want to expose their children to many forms of literature, math, art, history, music. Parents are supposed to want a better life for their kids.

As for their diet, why didn't the raw family have plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits to eat raw? It seemed they were fixated on eating raw meat. The raw mom did try and get the city family to drink some vegetables, but why not push fruits? Why not eat whole, raw vegetables instead of juicing them together?

When they whipped out the mud and butter toothpaste, well I was just sick. Better they just brush their teeth with plain water. Did you notice the raw mom's teeth and gums? I'm no dentist, but I could tell that she had some stage of gum disease going on just by looking at them. The gums were red and inflamed; they looked puffy, unhealthy.

I know they choose polar opposites to switch on that show. I often wonder where they find all these weirdos. But that raw family really upset me. I think what they are doing is a form of abuse to those children. At least neglect.
