I am sitting in my office on my lunch break-- I do not answer my phone during my lunch. The same caller has called and hung up FOUR times in a row. What does this person think they are going to accomplish? UGH--Sorry, just a vent. I am having a really bad day.

When that happens to me on my lunch break, I'll sometimes pick up the phone and say in a deep-deep voice:"Sheriff's office! Deputy Fife speakin'"....dead silence on the other end.

Well at least you get a lunch break..... :lmao:
Sorry. I was just thinking how this thread could go as I have read recently some of the most innocent starts have turned into really wild long rants.

PixiePop I hope your day gets better. :) Do you have a voice mail you could put on during your lunch break? If not and you aren't going to answer the phone anyway, why not just take it off the hook so they will be a busy signal. That way the ringing won't bother you.

My guess is they hope if they call you enough you'll get sick of listening to the phone ring and answer it. Or they think you are away from your desk and hope you have returned.

If you know that its the same caller I would call them back and ask them what their problem was.

My phone has a Do Not Disturb setting I use if I am eating lunch at my desk. That way I can't hear it ring, I just have to listen to four hangups on my voice mail when lunch is over. :rotfl:

Sorry you are having a bad day.

I answer the phones at my office and I love when they want to talk to thier loan office and I tell them that they are with someone. the person on the phone is like ok I will call back in FIVE minutes. :rotfl: My usually response to that is ok but I am not sure if they will be available but you can try. Usually they are not "available" all day every day. :rotfl:

Ever notice how the phone rings right after you put the food in your mouth?

I get the customers who think that we should call back within a half hour and are livid when we do not! I work in a very seasonal business and unfortunatly some customers that i have cannot understand that i see all of mine within a 3 month period where as theirs are draw out over 12 months! So for us if you do not come in to see us in the summer and want a phone call expect it to take 2 days. I will not call before i get to work (at 8am) or after work (8pm) and some of them fully expect my home number so they can call me there at night!

As far as a lunch break durring the summer i put a sandwich under the counter and sneak it in when i can! Oh how i love fall!!!

Does this mean you have caller ID at work like I do?

Ever since they got it here I wonder if they realize how bad of an idea it was to install that feature. The number of ignored calls can't be helping the business run effectively.

Uh because some people don't seem to understand that if you don't pick up the first two times you probably aren't there. I really don't understand some peoples phone etiquette, or lack of.

I don't know if this is better or wose, but I once had someone call my office phone asking for pizza hut. The lady wouldn't believe me that she dialed the wrong number.

Or maybe just someone who LIKES you! Like 5th grade!

I'd call them back after lunch with a really worried tone in my voice. Ask them what's wrong? When they say "why?" Then you can tell them you checked your caller ID after lunch and you saw that they called you like 5 times in 5 minutes and you KNOW they wouldn't do that unless it was an emergency. Soooooo what's the emergency? :confused3

I love the pushy ones who want to knwo when my boss will call them back or complain to me b/c he hasn't!

I apologize and make excuses for him, like a good worker bee, but when they become insitant that they want to know when...I finally say, I can give him the message, but I can't pick up the phone and dial it for him and MAKE him call you back.

When this happens to us, we pick up the phone and say

"Hello, Brenda's Brothel!"

That usually shuts them up :teeth:

You just made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

Thank you everyone I was just having a very bad day and wanted to have 15 minutes of peace.

I do have a voice mail and that is what bugs me. Leave me a message and I promise I will call you back. I am usually working during my lunch, just not answering my phone.

I am a Credentialing Manager and deal with physicians. They always think that I am sitting at my desk just waiting for THEIR call.

The funniest line about doctors is in the movie Airplane, the stewardess ask Leslie Nielsen what he would like to eat, "fish or chicken" and he (the doctor) says as deadpanned and serious as can be, "I'll have the lasagna"....it kills me everytime because its so darn true.

:rotfl: Yep, that's them in a nutshell!!!!!

I have to admit that I'm guilty of doing that (calling repeatedly). But... it was only when it was for something urgent and I was hoping they were on their way back from the potty, getting water, etc.
