Why would you bring an infant to a casino?

There is no indoor smoking at the Borgata.

Nope, that isn't true. Their casino has 25% of their space allotted for smokers. The B bar also allows smoking. There is also smoking outside the theaters.

We frequent AC and smoking and smoke can be found just about everywhere. It reeks.

My in-laws live in Vegas, so every few trips i do take the kids down to the strip because we all go kind of batty sitting inside all day. If they didn't want children on the premises, they wouldn't have things like
  • Rainforest Cafe
    Build A Bear Workshop
    Spongebob 3-D
    Tournament of Kings
    Adventure Dome
    etc.

Does a casino resort have the right to exclude someone for being a pompous ******? Because those are way, WAY more annoying than infants.
:goodvibes

I went to Vegas for my nephew's high school graduation and I took my girls (ages 8 and 2 at the time). The cheapest place to stay was at one of the casinos, so that's where we stayed. We didn't gamble at all, but there was no way to avoid walking through the casino several times a day to get to our room. I never thought I was doing anything wrong, but I guess people were watching me and judging. Oh well...let me tell you how much their collective opinions mean in the grand scheme of things. :rolleyes1

The Bellagio in Las Vegas has a more strict policy.

http://www.bellagio.com/under21policy/

really... because when we took our children to the winter garden no one asked us for our a show ticket or reservation. And there were many, many children there that day looking at the display.
I guess since the Fastpass horse has been beaten to death, lets move on to how Bellagio enforces their policies, and how many of us are gaming the system.
:thumbsup2

We just discussed this tonight. The local casino has the only seafood buffet in town. We are taking the kids Friday night. There isn't smoking in the buffet and the casino is way at the back of the building past a pizza hut, a shop and another place to eat. They have a waterslide for people that stay, but we are just eating. We went alone a few weeks ago and they had kids menu prices and there were lots of kids there. We won't feel bad taking them this weekend at all!

I am very surprised that there were infants at the Borgata, because i've never seen one there, or a child for that matter. I know the Water Club is 21+, and I thought the Borgata was as well.

Not sure about now, after being rebuilt; but before Katrina several of the casinos on the ms coast had child care centers and really nice arcades.

The Beau Rivage is like a huge mall so lots of kids around and about. The Hard Rock Cafe and Casino has a lot that appeals to kids too.

The state had to change a lot of child care center policies when the casinos opened to make sure kids weren't left there for days on end. The centers were open 24/7 and parents would drop the kids off and just not come back for a few days!! They had to make sure kids were signed in and out so each shift could double check to make sure the kids were getting picked up at some point--they can come back every day or night but have to be picked up some time in between.

Borgata used to be fairly strict about no kids under 18, but like everything else it has been relaxed. I used to love to go there because of that. It always disturbs me to see kids at the casino hotels, kids are not allowed on the casino floor at all though.

I also hate to see kids in Vegas for the same reasons. I would've never bought my kids to Vegas before they were 21.

We took our kids and stayed in Vegas. We went to the Grand Canyon but then spent the rest of the time in Vegas, we had a blast. Had a Las Vegas with kids book and there were tons of things to do. We went to the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, we went to NYNY and one of my kids rode the roller coaster, they played in the arcade. We saw the lions, tigers and dolphins at the Mirage. We saw the volcano at the Mirage, we saw the flowed display and the fountain show at the Bellagio. We went to the Stratosphere and enjoyed the view and argued with DS about going on the rides on top of there, he had no fear. We went on the gondola ride and Madame's Tusuads in the Venetian. We went to Freemont St and enjoyed the light show (the Doors) and my kids thought it was fun to get their picture taken with the impersonators. We didnt go to the seedy part of Freemont St.
They swam in the pool at the Flamingo.

And never once did we gamble!!!!! We are not gamblers.

And I did most of it with the two kiddos myself bc DH got really sick.

We cant wait to go back:goodvibes

Our two casinos don't let in anyone under age 18. They do check id's if you look close. Sadly, they don't ever check mine :lmao:

Ours also aren't as huge as the ones being described. They don't have shops or theatres. They each have one nice restaurant but no kids are allowed in them because you have to walk through the gaming areas to get to them.

Children are not allowed on the gaming floor in Atlantic City. There are a million reasons they could be in the hotel. They may just be there for dinner, or to see a show, or they came to shop at the outlets, or they are staying there because there is an event in the area that they are attending. We are very close to A.C. lot's of folks I know use A.C. for a quick winter getaway. You can get cheap rooms during the week. They take the kids to use the pool.

I get free rooms all the time and I have taken my daughter with me since she was about 2 years old. Never take her on the gaming floor but we always go with a friend or take grandma with us and we alternate who goes down to gamble and my daughter goes swimming in the hotel pool and we walk the boardwalk and always head to It's Sugar! My daughter has seen plenty of shows there, her favorite was Legends, she loved Elvis!

One year the husbands had to attend a conference in Vegas, so my best friend and I - and our babies - tagged along. A lot of the restaurants had a No Child Under 5 policy, which kind sucked because we were hoping to take advantage of the expense accounts, but totally understand they didn't want crying babies. We hung out by the pool, shopped and had a great time.

There was also a rule that no one under 18 could be on the gaming floor, but pretty much all of Vegas is a gaming floor so it was tricky getting through a hotel with a stroller.

Wow! I find this thread pretty judgemental because I know there was a HUGE YOUTH National Cheer and Dance competition held at Atlantic City this past weekend. I'm sure ALL of the resorts were full of children! As far as the infants, they could have been younger siblings. These places aren't stand alone casinos, they are resorts with restaurants, activities, the boardwalk, etc.

That's like asking why are you taking an infant on a cruise ship that happens to have a casino.

And the minimum age for the gambling floors in AC is actually 21, not 18.

I have taken my kids to AC on at least three occassions. All of the times we were with the in-laws. Kids played in game room, swam, and an adult was with them at all times. FIL doesn't gamble so he would usually watch them.

The second time we were flying out of AC airport at 6 AM, that meant staying in AC overnight. I never went to the casino...but dh did when he eventaully got there.

The last time was Thanksgiving. Mil get the kids with her at Harrahs, she got us a room at the Borgota (kids were registered at our room since that is the only way kids are allowed into that hotel). DH and I got some privacy..kids went swimming,...and we at at teh Borgota..kick *** Thanksgiving buffet!

We hit the shops on the boardwalk, the loved the cando store and the taffy shop. They had a blast, so did we. :)

Not a thing wrong having kids at a a casino as long as they are with responsible adults! But that is good for kids anywhere :).

Do casino resorts have the right to exclude kids under a certain age from staying there?

I would assume so. At the casino closest to me, Caesars Windsor, no one under the age of 19 is allowed in - not on the gaming floor, not in the restaurants or shops and not even in the hotel connected to the casino. They are also not allowed in the theatre to watch shows (I know lots of 16 year olds were upset when Enrique Iglesias came to town and they couldn't get in!).

I guess it is a provincial law based on drinking age?

When the casinos first opened in Detroit, there were a number of times infants were found alone in cars outside the casino while mom and dad gambled away at 1am. At least the parents in Atlantic City took their kids with them. That's an improvement.

Yup. I have heard this is one of the reasons why the Caesers Windsor built another hotel tower. This hotel tower is not connected to the actual casino except by a catwalk so families can stay in that particular tower but kids cannot cross the catwalk.

I stand corrected, you are absolutely right since they serve "free" alcoholic beverages on the gaming floor. It's been a while since I was 21 :rolleyes1

Several years ago, we had to attend a gymnastics competition in Las Vegas with our daughter who was then 9 or 10. We thought it was an odd choice of locale for an event involving little girls but apparently it's quite popular for all sorts of children's events (dance competitions, pageants, etc.). Personally, we hated it. We were there during a cold snap in January and the pool at our hotel was closed due to the wind and weather. We went to the strip once during our trip with another family and we were all annoyed by those guys flicking the nudie bar cards at the men in our group with our daughters right there watching. There was smoke everywhere in our hotel (same hotel that the gymnastics competition was being held at). There was a bowling alley in our hotel but we left due to the heavy smoking. The only part of the trip we enjoyed, aside from watching our daughter compete, was our trip to the Hoover Dam. We enjoyed feeding the dam squirrels.

Maybe it's a lucky baby...just rub his tummy and roll the dice.
:rotfl2:

We were at the Borgata last month and what floored us were all the pregnant woman. Hugely pregnant women. I couldn't imagine thinking hmm I wonder what I should do to prepare for the baby in my last trimester, I know let's hit the slots!

We take the kids all the time.since they were little.
They have changed the laws in AC atleast.. they can be on the casino floor but no stopping at the machine, just walking thru.
