Why Would Someone Want Turndown Service?

Love the pampering. If you don't feel its worthwhile not a big deal. But when we do non-DVC stays where we have turndown, I love coming back from dinner to find my room tydied, my bed turned down, my pillow fluffed, usually a bottle of water by the bed, etc. Its one of those small sorts of luxuries that makes me feel like I'm on vacation.

(I also love having the hairdresser wash my hair. To me, having someone else wash my hair makes me feel very pampered. I'm perfectly capable of washing my own hair. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the experience.)

Did I enjoy turn down service in CL/AKV? Sure, but it wasn't a necessary part of the experience, and I do feel a bit like the OP...If you are cleaning the room, leave my chocolate then and go away! It's a bit of a joke at CL anyway. When we have been there, they turned the bed down at 4:PM, and that was about the time we were trying to use the bathroom so we could get out to dinner. Doing the "chocolate on the pillow" thing would be much better served when they do the cleaning!:thumbsup2

Turndown probably works better on a cruise. You get back to your room mid-day and see your bed fully made. Then you get dressed up for dinner, and when you eventually return back to your room, the beds are "turned down" and readdy to use.
Easier to not interrupt on a cruise when they know your dinner schedule (although with crusie lines going to less strutured...) and since the cleaning staff is captive and can't leave for "home"....

..so basically, I guess the mousekeeping turn-down service should coordinate better with the concierge to enter during your Dinner ADR..

If I recollect, the turn down service we received at the Grand Californian included emptying the trashes, replacing towels, dropping off the information sheet on the next day's activities, dimming the lights to a nice soft glow, turning down the bed and leaving chocolates.
But, having been "ruined' by DVC we would usually turn down, the turn down service if we were in our room :).

I'm all for the chocolate, but really I'd be happier if they just left a bowl of them out by the elevator :). Bed Turndown, I dont really notice it.

That is how it has always been for us at WDW club levels including AKV concierge and even in garden view rooms at the Polynesian back when all rooms there received turndown. Not that they knew when our dinner plans were but turndown has typically been when we're out for dinner. On the occasional night when some or all of us are still in the rooms, I still sometimes have turndown. New towels, trash out and beds turned down crisply make the room feel cozier.

But it's so simple to decline. Call housekeeping early in the day or at the beginning of your stay.....or hang the Do Not Disturb sign on the door.
