We had a Terrible!! stay at the Doubletree at the entrance to Universal. It should be funny-because noone would believe all the problems we encountered. It is a dirty, dirty hotel and the staff did not care about any of the problems we had from dirt and grim and mold to our room being assigned to other people when we were still in it, to sheets not being changed when requested-because there was a stain on them when we arrived..our room key constantly needing to be reissued, wrong charges on our bill and on top of that we were threatened with a fee if we choose to leave. They all just said they knew about all the problems but their attitude was....oh well. We have resolved to NEVER stay off-site again, it is not worth wasting your vacation dollars on substandard accomodations.

Thanks so much for the info! I was just looking at this hotel.

We need a room for two nights for a quick trip, one day at IOA and one at MK, couldn't get FL resident rate for my dates for Univ on site, so it looks like POFQ, our favorite at Disney, is winning out.

hey MAD........i used to stay off site back in the earlier days of 93-4
the parks were not as crowded so that wasn't the issue.

it was the time factor.
had to get up early, everyone get ready then go eat.
either drove , took hotel shuttle or walked to the park when stayed off site.

no way could we go back to the room to relax in the afternoon. it would take a good 20 minutes out of our time. if we drove, the walk to the parking lot, drive back to the room then reverse it to return to the parks.

not my idea of fun when it was 90+ outside.
staying on site is a brief walk to the parks. and service at the hotels is fantastic
when staying off site, no one there to help you out but one front desk clerk ususally.

i stopped staying off site even if it meant more money staying on site.
sometimes it is not worth the aggravation for saving the bucks.

Staying off site is not inherently bad, other than the proverbial 20 minute drive in bumper to bumper traffic before you get to the interchange for Universal.

At least if you stay at a hotel that is part of a national chain, you can call the nationwide headquarters immediately if you have problems.

Funny that they should charge you an extra fee for leaving early because, if you stick it out (fully consume the product/service), your chances of getting refunds or compensation are lessened.
