Why think FP- system will be phased out?

Today is a busy day, but I think this is an indicator of how many same-day FPs are going to be available for the top attractions going forward. Not many.

Always been a concern of mine (and others here) as well. :thumbsup2

You are misreading me. I am no fan of the FP+ concept, and I am very aware of how FP+ must come from a limited pool of ride slots that were once made up of only FP and standby.

But to suggest that the early sellout of FPs this morning is "not unusual" and is more because of FP+ siphoning than holiday crowds is jumping the gun a bit in my opinion.

I stand by, for now, my assertion that a 9:30a sellout of FPs for TSM is unusual and can be attributed to the holiday weekend.

:goodvibes

Yes, It is probably due to both factors...holiday weekend and moving FPs to the prebooking bucket.

Same at Epcot friday-- FP for soarin and TT at 630 around 10 am. Definitely prepping for removal.

I think it has a lot more to do with the holiday than with FP+. We just got back from WDW last week. We were in Epcot on Fri the 4th and Soarin/TT FPs were definitely still available for a while after 10am.

You're misunderstanding me too. I'm attributing the early sellout to a combination of multiple factors. More FP+, fewer legacy FP, heavier than average crowd. We really can't attribute the early sellout to just one factor when they are all contributing.

Perhaps. When they disappear at 9:30a on a "normal" day is when to start paying attention.

Oh this definitely! When they're gone by 9:30 on a moderate crowd day...

No worries--you'll still be able to use FP+ to access many fine attractions such as Stitch's Great Escape, Captain EO and the Backlot Tour!

;)

OK, I'm lost. Isn't Peter Pan down for refurb? If it's not, it will be very soon.

I believe FP- is definitely going away, but it has to stay available until offsite and day guests have a means of accessing FP+.

I think THIS is where the rumor of removal of legacy FP for Peter Pan comes from.

Sorry, but there were no FP machines at HM last year or the previous year.
You must be confusing it with something else.

Well if both you and Mesaboy say it's so . . . I'll have to give you this one. It seems like yesterday we were pulling fastpasses for HM. :confused3 When did they remove the legacy machines from Voyage of the Little Mermaid at HS?

It will be interesting to see if the legacy machines are at PP when it is finished with its refurb. I can't see them taking those machines away until after the holiday season.

Sorry, I misspoke, I guess. I just meant don't they have a system that gets you into a shorter line, kind of like FP. Didn't mean FOTL. Can you buy that if you're not a resort guest there?
You can buy both unlimited and one time ride Express passes if you're not a resort guest. I have said that I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for access to Disney fastpass when staying offsite but I bet that Disney and I have different ideas when it comes to reasonable price. ;)

That early is unusual, but I'd guess it has more to do with the holiday weekend crowd than it does with nefarious FP+ tinkering. ;)
It hadn't occurred to me but Disney could easily tinker with fastpass availability while doing all of this testing. I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea but it wouldn't surprise me.

Maybe the legacy machines are covered due to the refurb and some people are assuming that they're gone because of that! That makes me feel better.

Correct. No FP machines have been removed from any ride. If they are missing or covered, the ride is closed. I wish folks wouldn't post conjecture as a statement of fact.

Planogirl, I would like confirmation of this, too, but I'm afraid the question will be missed buried in this thread. Do you wanna start a new thread? More people might see it to respond. If it is gone I wonder if it is temporary & related to the planned rehab?
Did you see this too? I know that you were concerned too.

I had my doubts but it worried me for a minute. Riding PP is a bit of a tradition for us.

It's important for y'all to bear in mind that when PP reopens from its refurb, it *might not* have legacy FP anymore. It's a very strong possibility.

Definitely a possibility. But man would that suck for people without access to FP+.

Anything is possible but I wouldn't call it a "very strong" possibility. 50/50 either way and I would lean towards it coming back until FP+ officially goes live. It's very easy to insert a FP machine and remove it overnight.

No one discouraged us from using legacy FP at all during our 6 day stay this past week, even though we wore our brightly-colored MB prominently displayed.

We were there on 9/28-10/1 of this year and it was gone. The CM outside the attraction said it only had FastPass+.
