why the age limit?

I have to disagree that under 6 doesn't know they are helping.

At my 5yr olds school they were talking about the Haiti disaster. She had been saving her money for a webkinz but instead took it to school to donate to help the kids in Haiti???? There was no prompting for her to do this.

I have to as well. My son is a couple months away from turning 4. If I explained to him that say we were helping collect canned goods for those who didn't have any food to eat or did something similar he wouldn't definitely understand what was going on and why we were helping him. Sure, he may not understand the impact it might have but there is absolutely nothing wrong with instilling this at a young age!
