Why Should She Even Care?

I had sent an e-mail to my Mom Wednesday morning, she called me in the afternoon to respond to it. She also asked what I was doing, and I told her I was putting clean sheets on the bed (had washed them, and hung them out to dry). She said, "why are you doing THAT on a Wednesday? I do MINE on Friday or Saturday!"

Do you have a certain day you wash the sheets on your bed? I don't. Did them this week on Wednesday, next week it might be Tuesday, Thursday....whatever day I happen to get around to doing them.

But, it is so funny that she would even say that. Why should she care when I wash our sheets? Gah! :headache:

lol Yeah my mum would say "oh I do mine on a Sunday morning" like it's news to me, I lived there very annoying as a teen being booted out of bed at 8am and yelled at to strip your bed.

I've only been doing mine of a weekend in recent months since I've been working mon-fri.

Laundry, on a Wednesday, what's wrong with you;)?!?!?!?

Actually, I do all my laundry either Saturday or Sunday. I am a morning person. So if I don't start my cleaning, laundry, etc, in the morning, it isn't getting done:thumbsup2!!! I work M-F, so dishes after dinner is about all that I accomplish during the week!!!!!

:rotfl: I don't have a certain day to do it. Changing the sheets happens whenever I get around to it.

I always try to come back with a totally off the wall response to stupid people's comments. If my Mom said "Why are you doing that on Wednesday? I do mine on Friday or Saturday!" I'd have likely given her a smart s$$ comment like "There was so much semen on them that I couldn't wait that long" :rotfl2: But my Mom would have thought it was hilarious.

Why should this comment by an older woman even bother you? :confused3

In the older generations people did the same thing on the same days. They made the save dinner each Tuesday. This was how they could budget their small amount of money and time.

Now we have it so much easier so we can chose to do it different. For a person who did something for 60+ years to change is very difficult.

OMG!!!!! The thought of your 'smart' response!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Anyhow,
OP, Methinks she has some serious issues... but sounds like you already know that! ;)

In some communities it used to be important to hang out the wash on the day of the week that the steam engines were at the roundhouse for maintenance and not chugging by spewing ashes and smoke.

At our house the sheets on our bed get washed whenever DH gets around to it. :rotfl:

I do laundry all week long, but I usually wash the sheets, dry them and put them right back on the bed, so it has to be done on weekends when I am home long enough to do it.

I would have laughed my mother off the planet if she had said that to me! :rotfl:

My sister has her "days" scheduled but then again she has company all the time and it is necessary for her to run a tight ship. Plus she is OCD with housecleaning.;)

I wash my sheets when I need to. Right now it is a lot because of allergies. I am constantly washing my bedding.

I guess you didn't know my older generation mom. She had way more time and money than I do. She also wasn't a creature of habit, it happened when it happened.

OP. Just ignore her. People are funny about their laundry habits. Something I have learned here at the Dis and also from my nest door neighbor, we have the great laundry debate all the time. She is completely opposite of me, but we agree that the way we do it works for us and not the other.

I do laundry during the middle of week if I'm off and don't have to go to my night clinic. The weekends are reserved for family time and for me going through patient records to make sure that everyone has what they needed. I hate doing :laundy: now. I love putting them in the washer and dryer with no problems. It's the folding that gives me a big fat :headache:

I usually change and wash my bedding on Saturdays, unless something happens in my schedule to change that, but I couldn't care less when someone else changes their bedding.

Heck, I have so many sets of sheets (can't resist buying cute, colorful ones..........bad, expensive habit but there are worse habits) that I could change mine weekly and not wash them for about 2 1/2 months before running out! So the bed gets stripped when I feel like it but not on a certain day, it gets made with clean sheets and the dirty ones get washed that day or 2-3 days later when I have a day off!

I'm doing some laundry right now :goodvibes *Usually* I do my laundry on Saturday mornings because I work 8-5:30 M-F and after that I have dinner, homework, baths, and bedtimes to attend to. I always throw our last nights towels and washcloths in the washer in the morning and then toss them in the dryer when I get home but any clothing and sheets is reserved for the weekend. I like to do laundry and grocery shopping Saturday morning so if we end up going somewhere that evening or want to go somewhere on Sunday I can without worrying about having something to do. During the summer, though, I just do it as I get enough to make a load of the appropriate colors/items.

She sounds like my mother, she always feels the need to comment about how "she" does something. If I call her on it she will say "Oh, I didn't mean you were doing it wrong!" :dance3:

You're lucky, mine does say I'm doing it wrong! :rotfl:

I can clearly remember her getting mad at me about how I made my bed when I was a teenager. She wanted me to put the top sheet on with the printed side down, then pull the blanket up to about a foot from the top and fold the top sheet down over the blanket so about a foot wide strip of the pretty side of the sheet would show over the blanket. I thought it was dumb, and still do actually, so I didn't always do it that way but she "inspected" once and found that I didn't do it "her way" so tore it apart and made me redo it a few times "until I got it right."

I am not like that, I think that there are more than one way to do things and just because something isn't done the way I do it doesn't make it "wrong." She's never understood that. I love her dearly, and we get along great most of the time, but sometimes the little things like this just annoy the crap out of me. ;)

Sounds to me like she was just making conversation. Look at all the replies from women on here talking about when they do their housework.

Regardless of how she wanted her house to look when you were living in it, you're on your own now. If/when she comments about how she does things differently, I guess the only proper reply would be, "Uh-huh. That's nice, momma" and then change the topic.

Thats why I like a contintel quilt. Put the new quilt cover on shake quilt and put on bed, thats all it takes to make the bed. Oh forgot the special blancket that my tom cat loves.

Because we have a smart meter I do all my laundry on the weekends. Either Sat or Sun when I feel like it. Otherwise it is after 9 p.m. starting it. Too late for me. One of my son's is up late so my dishwasher is put on late.
My Mum had everything done on a schedule. Thursday was floor washing day, washing was everyday (a lot of kids), do the fridge on a certain day. I don't do that.
