Why RCI?

From everything i've been reading it seems like a real pain to try and get anything through RCI. If that is the case then why does DVC use them? When we bought in we were told it was easy, just pick where you want, call and book. We havent had any problems in the past, but have never tried to exchange through RCI. Why did they change through them if it's so difficult? Or is it that the only ones on here commenting are the ones that had trouble that make it seem like it's impossible?

Disney uses all of the destinations outside of the DVC as a marketing tool. RCI has thousands of locations but only a few hundred are available to the DVC. Plus to either make money or deter bookings DVC added the $95 fee a couple of years ago.

Exchanging in general is difficult, I don't know that RCI is any more difficult to exchange in that II for DVC and in many ways, it's likely better. As to why, only DVD can say for sure but most people's money is on the $$$, esp the rental outlet that RCI provides much better than II.
